and now have cord, wool and velvet for winter.
Would you do the same?
Silk and linen for summer, in case this is relevant.

Why can't you have cord, velvet and wool in addition to jeans? do you just not like jeans.
Personally, I have all of them except silk.

Beachhutnut · 06/02/2023 21:07

Why did you give up Jeans?

grayhairdontcare · 06/02/2023 21:09

I gave up jeans at 47.
I wear nothing but dresses now .

FelicityFlops · 06/02/2023 21:09

To be honest I never really liked jeans. They are too hot in summer and not warm enough in winter. Also EVERYONE wears them, so not elitist enough for me, clearly :-)

That's a very lux choice to make. I prefer the weight discipline of raw denim. At 66.

Divebar2021 · 06/02/2023 21:12

I wouldn’t give up anything because of my age - if someone implied I’m too old for something I’d go and buy multiple versions of them to make a point.

lljkk · 06/02/2023 21:13

Good to wear what you like, and let others do same.

C1N1C · 06/02/2023 21:15

I have up jeans at birth. Never owned a pair.

ImWearingReallyJudgyPants · 06/02/2023 21:15

I gave jeans up when I was about 22. They are uncomfortable and look awful on most people, regardless of age.

My wardrobe consists of cashmere, wool, cotton, linen and a bit of corduroy. I don't wear trousers at all - always skirts and dresses.

5128gap · 06/02/2023 21:19

Never. Cord and wool would make me feel and look chunky, and velvet would look eccentric in Tesco. Linen looks like a crumpled rag and silk looks like pajamas on me. I'm 53 and love jeans and even worse, high waist skinnies! They're comfy and suit my figure.

TheDead · 06/02/2023 21:19

I have had many many years of my life n & off where I haven't worn jeans.

I stopped wearing then again in 2020 & literally last week I bought my first pair since then - COS wide leg with side pockets & I adore them

I wear Jersey, wool, velvet etc otherwise. I'm 53

dudsville · 06/02/2023 21:20

I have made changes at different times in my life. I bought heels in my 20s, stopped late 30s, proper nice underwear in my late 20s and 30s. I stopped wearing trainers in my 30s, reintroduced then in my 50s stopped wearing proper nice underwear in my 40s opting for comfort, stopped wearing jeans in my 40s - i don't see myself going back on that, heels or fancy pants, but you never know!

mumofthemonsters808 · 06/02/2023 21:28

I love my jeans and can’t imagine ever giving them up.

HeadNorth · 06/02/2023 21:33

I’m in my 50s and wear jeans - why stop because of your age?

Netcam · 06/02/2023 21:33

I am not keen on jeans, I'm 53 and haven't worn them since my mid 40s, I don't like the stiffness. I wear wool trousers or wool leggings in winter and cotton leggings or sometimes cotton cords in warmer weather. I love silk and wear silk thermals sometimes. The idea of wearing silk or linen trousers in the summer appeals, but I don't really iron and I can't imagine I could find any that don't need ironing. I mainly wear shorts or merino jersey tank dresses in the summer though, so don't need many summer trousers.

anomaly23 · 06/02/2023 22:21

I haven't worn jeans since I was 28, they're uncomfortable, never fit well and go baggy first wear.

dotdotdotdash · 06/02/2023 22:25

You know Mumsnet isn't elitist, don't you? Full of (jeans-wearing) commoners

Fairislefandango · 06/02/2023 22:27

<shrug> I like cords, velvet etc, but I also like jeans. It's not either or!

journeyofinsanity · 07/02/2023 02:39

I like the idea of cord but it always makes me feel chunky. Silk no. I sweat in summer and freeze in winter. I can't see how anyone wears it

TheFretfulPorpentine · 07/02/2023 03:53

I plan to be buried in my skinnies.

NoMoreAgeJokes · 07/02/2023 08:41

I’m nearly 60 and still wear jeans a lot.
I can imagine by 70 I might stop wearing them, but we’ll see!

Lorrymum · 07/02/2023 08:45

I could never find jeans to fit me in my teens and twenties, they just hung on me. I now live in my skinny jeans and Im 65.

Greatly · 07/02/2023 08:47

What a bizarre decision! I'm 57 and just bought a lovely new pair of jeans from Arket. Wearing velvet or cord because of your age sounds beyond frumpy.

Greatly · 07/02/2023 08:48

And my terribly glamorous 90 year old neighbour still wears jeans occasionally and looks fab in them!

Babdoc · 07/02/2023 08:48

I’m 67 and still live in jeans and hiking trousers. Couldn’t imagine wearing skirts - too easy access for midges and ticks when I’m out on the hills! (Perthshire)
