and now have cord, wool and velvet for winter.
Would you do the same?
Silk and linen for summer, in case this is relevant.

Can l ask how all you dress wearers cope with horrible, itchy, thrush creating/falling down tights? And how do you keep your legs warm? No thermal tight is warm enough for me, and l can’t wear wool.

Get tights that fit. In winter 100 denier and higher.

Jeans are useless in cold weather and useless in hot weather. The old time I've had thrush was when I wore jeans.

GordonShakespearedoesChristmas · 07/02/2023 22:13

I wear jeans 90% of the time. Dress them up, dress them down. Work full time but mostly online. Wear with T shirts, band shirts and a baby pink body warmer with Snoopy on.

I'm 60.

You do you, and I'll do me 😊😊

whytesnow · 07/02/2023 22:14

I gave up jeans like 4 years ago at 28

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/02/2023 22:16

No, l can’t stand the thought of tights. They make me feel like I’m wearing a nappy. I’m really sensitive to fibres. Polyester and Acrylic both make me itch too.

Ew. Why would jeans give you thrush?? They are mainly cotton.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/02/2023 08:57

It’s the close fitting nylon environment that causes thrush! Not cotton jeans.

Tirednest · 08/02/2023 09:00

Can't live an active outdoor lifestyle in tights and dresses! Jeans are far more practical, I live in mine. Never have thrush either. Clean cotton pants and cotton jeans!

Snowisfallinghere · 08/02/2023 09:07

I stopped wearing jeans in 2020, age 30. I switched to mainly "smart" jogging bottom style trousers (i.e. comfortable black trousers) and leggings. I get cold easily so I wear merino leggings underneath in winter and this feels a lot more comfortable when it's not under denim! In summer, I wear skirts, shorts, dresses, lightweight thin material trousers.

I just find jeans quite uncomfortable. It's sort of a sensory thing for me. Denim just feels so scratchy. I love everything I wear to be soft.

I have slowly reintroduced jeans to my wardrobe now that skinny jeans are finally out of fashion, the wide leg and flared fit jeans are a lot more comfortable for me. But for me jeans in general are no longer the wardrobe staple they once were.

Userusing1 · 08/02/2023 09:08

I did at about 55 and mainly wear cord in the winter and chino type cotton trousers in the summer. The main reason for not wearing jeans is I don't find them that comfortable rather than what they look like

FenghuangHoyan · 08/02/2023 09:10

I'm well over 50 and I'm sat in jeans and a hoody at the moment. I wear jeans most of the time.

... though I do have thermals under the jeans, but no one knows that apart from me and the cats.

I own two pairs of jeans but have never worn either. Both styles recommended here a year ago.

I prefer skirts and own around 40+. Also dresses. I do own lots of trousers but they're specifically for activities like walking, yoga, gym. I'm not into athleisure wear.

sighlight · 08/02/2023 09:23

I'm 30s to add

beguilingeyes · 08/02/2023 09:26

61 and still wearing them. I go to a lot of gigs (30-40 a year)and nothing else really works for gigs. Plus they go with everything.
I have been cheating on them with Uniqlo jeggings lately though.

Oblomov23 · 08/02/2023 09:35

I can't find jeans that fit. I don't like the current trend of thin jeggings. I want proper jeans.

Try M and S boyfriend jeans. Button fly and thick fabric

Beenmum · 08/02/2023 09:40

I’m wearing jeans less but I’m also nearly a stone heavier ( thanks peri) .. so I think that’s why as I don’t want to buy more .. I don’t wear them in the summer anyway

Scarecrowrowboat · 08/02/2023 09:53

I can't imagine giving them up. My grandmother wore them in her 70s and looked good.

Worldgonecrazy · 08/02/2023 10:06

Cords only look good on slender people. Even then they appear to add inches to the thigh area!

If I wore velvet or silk trousers as my ‘everyday’ choice I would have holes in the knees within hours.

There is a reason jeans are always ‘in’ in some design or other- they are practical and, with the right brand/fit, very comfortable.

Im now old enough to only be concerned with wearing what suits me, is practical/long wearing and is comfortable. I leave the dedicated following of fashion to the younger generation or for party/celebrations. (Though most ‘fashion’ for women past the age of mid 20s seems to be persuading women that the 1970s Children’s TV presenter look is aspirational!)

Userusing1 · 08/02/2023 10:22

I'm 5'10 and find cords more flattering than jeans, I haven't noticed they add inches to my thighs

Sounds just like me, nice to hear there are other such people around! I find denim a bit rough and don't like the feel of such a stiff waist digging into me, especially when sitting down. I wear merino leggings all winter too as I feel the cold, often I wear 2 pairs at once. My year round staple trousers are black Icebreaker merino crush pants, which are smart jogging bottom style. In summer I also like soft clothing and wear Icebreaker yanni tank dresses a lot, I have built up quite a collection, getting a new colour in the end of summer sale each year.

Snowisfallinghere · 08/02/2023 12:36

@Netcam sounds like we have a lot in common! I also buy multiple identical items of clothing in different colours any time I find something that's particularly comfy and versatile Grin

erikbloodaxe · 08/02/2023 12:37

I only wear whispers and echoes. Anything else just isn't elitist enough for mr.

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 08/02/2023 12:53

@FelicityFlops you are very wise!

There’s generally one neglected pair of jeans knocking around my wardrobe - but they’re invariably the least good option for any activity. Can never understand why they’re discussed incessantly here.

So many other fabrics, so many other garments to choose from! (Definitely not an age thing - I’ve felt the same for over half a century, while being obsessed with clothes.)

It probably helps if one leans to the slightly eccentric - I care far more about gobsmackingly gorgeous tweed or cord or velvet than I do about looking as thin as possible - or extravagant - very much the Monty Don woman collecting an exceptionally generous award …

I have had many many years of my life n & off where I haven't worn jeans.

I stopped wearing then again in 2020 & literally last week I bought my first pair since then - COS wide leg with side pockets & I adore them

I wear Jersey, wool, velvet etc otherwise. I'm 53

Jeans don't look awful on 'most people' - you may not like them, but tastes differ and many people look great in them.

My tights never fall down or are itchy (or cause thrust for that matter), and my legs are never cold... but I wear bog standard M&S tights, no fabric allergies etc here so whatever I get from M&S seems to work.
