A shiny new thread, Royal Style fans!
Keep the wit and wisdom coming!

Thanks @Maireas
I find all the interconnecting families fascinating
mikado1 · 15/01/2023 23:00
Thanks Maireas, and thanks be to God there's a new thread, as I was being sent back to P.18 everytime I clicked on updates on the last thread for some reason, so wasn't bothering as it was so annoying!

Isn't it fascinating, all the royal connections in Europe? Caroline does seem estranged from Ernst Sr.
Constantine, Anne-Marie, Sophia, Margarethe...so many cousins and aunts, as Gilbert and Sullivan would say!

No wait, that should be 👋🏻!!
😉👍

So how is Princess Alexandra Constantine's cousin? Via Marina?
Maireas · 15/01/2023 23:07
Indeed, Marina was a first cousin of Philip's wasn't she? I think their fathers were brothers?
KillingMeDeftly · 15/01/2023 23:09
I think Constantine was the most closely related out of the Euro royals to the British RF, followed by King Felipe and then Harald? Not sure what degree of cousin the others are but I think the only ones who aren't related are the Monegasques and the Dutch as they aren't descended from Queen Victoria or Christian IX of Denmark.
Maireas · 15/01/2023 23:12
Yes, the Geek throne went to the Glucksberg family as there was a vacancy.
You're right about the Monagesques and the Dutch.
Not for want of trying on the part of the Monagesques, though.....

My mum told me there was talk of Charles and Caroline in the 70s. She would've certainly brought some style with her if it had happened!
ChicoryDip · 15/01/2023 23:55
Just checking in here. Thanks as always @Maireas and great thread title.

I vaguely remember hearing this. Of course, she would have had to reject her Catholicism. At the time, marrying a Catholic would have disqualified Charles as heir to the throne.

Oh yes - Grace was very ambitious for a match for Caroline and Charles. It's fair to say that it wasn't countenanced.
KillingMeDeftly · 16/01/2023 08:42
I think Caroline was far too glam for Charles! Though it is funny how the Grimaldis don and discard their Catholicism when it suits them.
Maireas · 16/01/2023 08:46
Fair point!
Anyone else remember the headline "Charles to marry Astrid"?
Princess Marie Astrid. Now a Grand Duchess!

Sure that's why she's not divorced EA. don't think she'd get another annulment
