Having shorter hair is great!

I was always scared to cut my hair but recently thought 'oh sod it' , and had it cut from boob length to a mid length bob (between jaw and shoulders) probably about 10 inches off, and I love it!
It looks so much healthier, saves me time in the morning, easier to wash, my hair doesn't get in the way, trapped in bra straps etc. It also has gotten me noticed and compliments and I feel more stylish!
I've seen a lot of mumsnet threads saying you'll regret cutting your hair and it ages you....in my opinion it's the opposite! Maybe the case if you go very short ie. a pixie, no offence top anyone who does that, it can look amazing! But it wouldn't suit me as I have strong features.
But to cut it a bit shorter, bob etc= would totally recommend it!

After.
It's a slight graduated bob so shorter at the back.

That looks lovely. You're right, it has made your hair look much healthier.

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 01/11/2022 11:47

You have beautiful hair....it's still quite long.

Very nice indeed.

As I age I dislike very long hair more and more. scraggily and just everywhere.

Greenginghamdress · 01/11/2022 11:49

Thank you both :)

I did it myself aswell-in stages- happy with it! May go shorter in stages.

Yes I don't like scraggy long hair anymore, and I was hanging onto it for years but feel fresher now.

It looks fabulous, very chic. I’ve recently gone from bra strap at the back to shoulder length and feel liberated.

HiveBee · 01/11/2022 13:55

The trouble is and I know I’m gonna sound like a cow but every parent around the world has that hairstyle and it just shouts I have given up on looking attractive I will now have a bun and a bob.

Jeffica · 01/11/2022 14:08

Gave myself a buzz cut in September, life changing!

Whitacre · 01/11/2022 14:18

Yep, I had mine cut quite short over the summer (from nearly down to bra strap at the back to chin length). Really easy to look after, looks healthier and more stylish I think. Also less hot! (I’m menopausal!). I’m going to keep it like this now.

Greenginghamdress · 01/11/2022 14:38

@HiveBee Oh ok. Feel stupid now 🙈

@HiveBee Why is having a bob 'giving up on being attractive?'

ChocChipOwl · 01/11/2022 14:42

It looks fine OP and if you like it - which you do - that really is all that counts isn't it?

Be confident in your own style choices - and remember when you post on here asking for opinions, you're gonna get the negative ish ones too!

@HiveBee Oh ok. Feel stupid now 🙈

Why?
You've homed in on the one negative comment about it. If you are going to be easily swayed by random opinions from strangers, you might as well be influenced by the ones who really like it!

You're right....

You do sound like a cow 🙂
OP it looks lovely!

@hivebee ok Vidal...

Greenginghamdress · 01/11/2022 14:49

Thank you :)

I'm interested to know what hairstyles are stylish and attractive for later 30s/40s/and parents? Go on, feel free. Not everyone suits long hair, all the time.

This is such a mean comment and doesn’t even make sense. How does having a bob mean someone has given up on looking attractive?

I did this March 2020 and am happier than ever with my hair!

iloveorange · 01/11/2022 14:56

I don't think long hair suits all women equally, and I don't think all hairtypes are suitable for long hair. A great example of someone who (in my opinion) looks better with shorter hair (a pixie) is Emma Watson, also a singer called Lisa Cimorelli.

I wouldn't even call your hair short, to me that looks long enough and always cut it that short or shorter (early 30s with very fine hair). I'd go for a pixie but I did that once and found it really high-maintenance, had to style it every day with products to make it look nice and then you have to go to the hairdresser very often to keep it up. Oh, and growing it out was an absolute nightmare, so the next time I do it it's going to be for ever.

iloveorange · 01/11/2022 14:57

Oh, and your haircut looks nice! Forgot to say Smile

Goldendoodlemum · 01/11/2022 14:58

I have just done the same. I'm in my 20's and gone from long hair that was mid back length to a long bob very similar to yours and I love it. No more rats nest knots and dreadlocks after a shower, no more waiting 8 hours for it to air dry, so much easier to deal with and style and it looks so much healthier. Wish I had done it ages ago! I plait mine most nights and have lovely beach waves the next day which is so easy to do and makes it look like I have put lots of effort in when in reality I haven't.

MovingOnUpp · 01/11/2022 15:00

Have you tried curling it OP, I love playing around with my hair when I try a new style? You could try half up too.

What is your hair like?

OP, it looks lovely. I've had mine cut to shoulder length (I have got a fringe though) and it looks lots thicker and in better condition. It looks trendier too.

unsync · 01/11/2022 15:05

Loathe long hair, such a faff and it gets everywhere. I'm with the buzzcut women.
