Having shorter hair is great!

I was always scared to cut my hair but recently thought 'oh sod it' , and had it cut from boob length to a mid length bob (between jaw and shoulders) probably about 10 inches off, and I love it!
It looks so much healthier, saves me time in the morning, easier to wash, my hair doesn't get in the way, trapped in bra straps etc. It also has gotten me noticed and compliments and I feel more stylish!
I've seen a lot of mumsnet threads saying you'll regret cutting your hair and it ages you....in my opinion it's the opposite! Maybe the case if you go very short ie. a pixie, no offence top anyone who does that, it can look amazing! But it wouldn't suit me as I have strong features.
But to cut it a bit shorter, bob etc= would totally recommend it!

I also had the chop recently try. From half way down back to this!

Ooh lala that is gorgeous!

Coffeepot72 · 02/11/2022 12:38

My hair is currently a shoulder length bob and it’s doing me no favours at all, it falls into a triangle shape and I look/feel very frumpy. Having gone short a few year ago, i ended up with a ‘Nicola Sturgeron’, I’m very wary of repeating my mistake, but I will be asking her the hairdresser to take off approx 1.5 inch tomorrow and I’ll see where that takes me

Well that says more about you was a person Than any haircut doesn’t it.

Yes it does. Unnecessary.

xon · 03/11/2022 10:16

I don't think you can win with some. What is the ideal length and type?

Pixie cuts aren't feminine apparently. Bobs are giving up, and the misogynistic 'Karen' term is used. Long hair is also giving up, and then the ageism creeps in, as some still believe women over 30 or 40 shouldn't have long hair.

SirChenjins · 03/11/2022 10:30

Hear hear @xon The criticism that some women direct at other women’s appearance is both astounding and incredibly depressing.

StillMedusa · 03/11/2022 11:28

I had mine chopped off from below my boobs to just above my shoulders, two weeks ago.
I do kind of miss my long hair (as I'm in my 50s it was sort of my 'feature') but it's a lot quicker to dry! Plus 80% of the time it was in a great thick plait anyway.
I'm itching to have a really short/buzz cut and will get there one day!

Your hair looks great Op!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/11/2022 13:56

@Chickychickchick

That looks really nice!

OldSchoolCasualty · 03/11/2022 18:10

Viva la revolution!

Is that you @OldSchoolCasualty? You look amazing!

Pineapple41 · 03/11/2022 19:44

This is one of those things that just completely depends on the individual person - there are no rules about what looks stylish, frumpy, ageing, messy or any other such bollocks. I’d never cut my long hair as I have a face like a foot; my DM, on the other hand, looks years younger and way happier with a short bob (which I’d personally avoid like the plague). Everyone looks better with a style that makes them feel good!

Oh, and I laughed at the poster who said long hair isn’t a “style” - my helmet-haired aunt says that to me all the time!

OldSchoolCasualty · 04/11/2022 14:49

@Coniferhedge it is, that was I think two days after I cut it!

Coffeepot72 · 04/11/2022 15:46

So I had 1.5 inches approx cut off my hair yesterday, it's now between my jaw and shoulders. I feel (and hopefully look) 5 years younger, but I still feel like I've got hair, if you know what I mean. Yes, it's a bob, and no I haven't given up on being attractive. But going shorter instead of short (I suppose it's all relative) can make quite a difference.

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2022 13:07

I did it! Had about 7 inches off on Thursday and it now sits just above / on my shoulders. I might go a bit shorter next time.

My headaches have gone and I love it!

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 05/11/2022 15:33

To go against the general grain: I've just had about six inches off and I now look even more like my mother than I did before, and I wish I'd left it a bit longer!

i feel your pain, this is what happened to me last time, which is why I’m going VERY gradually shorter this time!

I have an undercut and love it. I find it really low maintenance. The actual undercut bit I do myself (number 2 with clippers) and then I just go to the hairdressers about every 3-4 months to have the top tidied up. It takes minutes to dry and I just rub a bit of wax in the top to give it a bit of texture.

Gorgeous!!!

It really does depend on your features, individual taste, confidence and so on. My hair sits just above my shoulders and if it’s longer, starts looking draggy. I’ve had it shorter and it doesn’t suit me at all.

Coffeepot72 · 06/11/2022 17:00

@Abracadabra12345 i think we’ve all got a point at which it’s just the right length, but the challenge is finding it!

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 06/11/2022 18:50

It's just so frustrating. I went in there hoping to come out feeling fresh and chic, and instead I look like Henry Tudor.

You probably don’t, but there’s nothing worse than being unhappy with your hair. Is it still long enough to put it up, or even a half up-do, until it grows a bit?

I can just about put it up. It definitely goes into a half updo, which helps because it makes it less bulky overall. I do like my new fringe, which I think is more important because it's trickier to hide!
