Are you still wearing skinny jeans?

I know they're supposed to be going out of fashion at the moment but having tried all other styles, including flares which are supposed to look good on my body shape, skinny jeans are the only ones that look half decent.
All my friends have ditched them, and I've noticed lots of other mums have too at nursery pick up etc.
It doesn't overly bother me but I'm curious as to whether people are fully ditching them or still clinging on like me? 😃

I don't think I ever could

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 16/10/2022 15:49

Yes!!

Still wearing them.

Rolled up slightly with either converse style trainers or DMs.

I will NOT be repeating the millennium trend of having wet flappy legs. It is NOT happening!!

VladmirsPoutine · 16/10/2022 15:50

Yes - similarly to the trench coat skinny jeans are never 'out'.

lifeturnsonadime · 16/10/2022 15:52

Yes, my body shape looks dreadful in wide legged jeans.

JackieDaws · 16/10/2022 15:52

Try the M&S Sienna straight leg jeans or the Lily slim fit. Not as tight as a skinny.

Precipice · 16/10/2022 15:52

Never wore them - far too tight on my calves and so very uncomfortable for me - but if it's a style that you find comfortable and like the look of, you should stick to it. No point ditching clothes that you like and which are comfortable and in good shape - what a waste.

Swalewhale · 16/10/2022 15:53

They're still selling in shops so they're not completely out!
Where I live everyone is still wearing them but when I go into central London I see a lot of people wearing wide leg jeans. The mom style jeans are not flattering at all unless you are stick thin.
I still see a lot of people wearing skinny black jeans and boots, so I guess black skinnies are allowed?

Ahh who gives a fuck, let's all just wear what we want

spiderontheceiling · 16/10/2022 15:53

I think it might depend where you live & who you mix with.
At my DC's school pick up, of those in trousers/jeans, I'd say that over 50% are in skinnies every day, if not more. There's a good number in wide leg and mom jeans with others being in uniform type trousers or running gear.
I think if the MN S&B gurus turned up, they'd react in Trinny & Susannah style horror.

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/10/2022 15:54

I'm still wearing them (I'm in the US). I have branched out to straight leg jeans and some relaxed fit "mom jeans", but I'm definitely not going to do the wide leg floppy thing.

Also, my skinnies are not skin tight like leggings, so they don't look as quite out of fashion as some of the jegging style jeans do.

Panauchocolat25 · 16/10/2022 15:55

Yep wearing them now! They look good with boots in winter. I have some non skinny ones for summer

Strugglingtodomybest · 16/10/2022 15:57

I'm still wearing my skinnies, rolled up slightly. I also have some wide legged jeans (my favourites) and have just bought a pair of boot cut trousers, which I'm glad are back in fashion again.

Afterfire · 16/10/2022 16:00

I actually don’t think they’re out as much as people think they are - all the “in” shops are still selling them as new in. And now we’re in boots season it seems like knee high and over the knee suede boots are “in” and they look really good with skinny jeans and long jumpers!

Rummikub · 16/10/2022 16:00

I commute through a student area. Lots still wearing skinny jeans. All styles visible. So I’m carrying on with them.

TwitTw00 · 16/10/2022 16:00

I wore mom ones for a bit but they ripped and I haven't managed to replace them with anything decent. Can't do slim as my legs are too chunky so they just look like ill fitting skinnies.

Chdjdn · 16/10/2022 16:01

Yes I do; I see them as a staple in the same way a white t shirt or black dress is

Amarette · 16/10/2022 16:01

Do people wear trainers with wide legged jeans?

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 16/10/2022 16:02

I wear black levi skinny occasionally with docs. But mostly wear a looser fit now

IndianSummer78 · 16/10/2022 16:03

I'm still wearing them. For ages I couldn't find bootcut or flares (my preference) and absolutely nobody was wearing them round here. So I embraced skinnies and learned how to style them, bought what I needed to go with them...now other styles of jeans are back! 🤦 I'm not getting rid of clothes that suit me and have nothing wrong with them so I'm still wearing skinny jeans sometimes.

Isabelle70 · 16/10/2022 16:03

I have a whole stack of them but do now have the M&S Lily which are really flattering and comfy.

Cece92 · 16/10/2022 16:03

I love my black skinnies and won't ever part lol! I have a pair of high waisted black trousers that are Flared I wear for work. X

Itstheimplication · 16/10/2022 16:03

Not just me then, good to know! Agree, I am NEVER going back to drenched flares in winter, I will not do it. I also never know which shoes or boots to wear with straight leg or wider leg jeans, even the boots/shoes/trainers people recommend just look wrong on me , I suspect because I am short with big hips, larger of thigh and have a small waist. It just makes me look all out of proportion.

I am wearing then today because I've had my walking boots on.

I am loving bootcuts again as they are flattering on me and I have long legs

Also wearing cropped wide legs and cuffed straight legs.

All bases covered!

Amarette · 16/10/2022 16:01

Do people wear trainers with wide legged jeans?

That’s what I’m seeing lots of. Incl platform.

Itstheimplication · 16/10/2022 16:04

@Gr33ngr33ngr4ss I am envious of your ability to wear all sorts of styles!

Long legs. About the only positive right now, mind you!

I wear trainers with jeans and chunky boots. I've even worn the full on mum- boot look that MN hates with my bootcuts!

Flatform Supergas in summer (not for much walking though- they're harsh)
Old converse a lot with wide legs
I'm no style icon at all tbf. I've just decided to enjoy clothes again and worry less!
