Are you still wearing skinny jeans?

I know they're supposed to be going out of fashion at the moment but having tried all other styles, including flares which are supposed to look good on my body shape, skinny jeans are the only ones that look half decent.
All my friends have ditched them, and I've noticed lots of other mums have too at nursery pick up etc.
It doesn't overly bother me but I'm curious as to whether people are fully ditching them or still clinging on like me? 😃

For the most part I’ve got rid, and whilst I’m still trying to find the perfect pair of flares or wide leg jeans I have a few bootcut, and slouchier style jeans. I’ve also now got some palazzo style trousers which I’m in love with, cropped and long, and jeans are a much rarer wear these days.

I do have a pair of black skinny jeans still because at this point I would say they are a classic staple.

Fabuleuse · 16/10/2022 16:23

No, i don't wear skinnies and haven't for a few years. I wear looser fitting or mom jeans.

TimBoothseyes · 16/10/2022 16:24

Yes. I have a big bust (not a humble brag I swear), so I wear loose fitting tops, as I can't abide fitted ones, which make me look frumpy if teamed up with wider legged jeans. I also only ever wear Cons or boots, which, again, doesn't go well with the wider legged stuff.

justwondering123456 · 16/10/2022 16:29

I don't think they are out of fashion at all. All the "trendy" shops like Primark are still selling them. They just offer a wider variety of styles now.

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/10/2022 16:29

I've just decided to enjoy clothes again and worry less!

Same here. Post-pandemic my workplace has revised the dress code to allow jeans everyday (used to just be Friday). We aren't supposed to wear ones with lots of rips and distressing, but otherwise we have lots of leeway. Many people are wearing jeans with dressier tops or blazers, which is a look I really like. For footwear, white trainers with everything does not seem to have made it to my region of the States yet, but I am seeing lots of loafers. It's too hot where I live for boots yet.

Tell me more about your palazzos- I could be persuaded, I think.

red4321 · 16/10/2022 16:32

I'm still wearing them. For ages I couldn't find bootcut or flares (my preference) and absolutely nobody was wearing them round here. So I embraced skinnies and learned how to style them, bought what I needed to go with them...now other styles of jeans are back! 🤦 I'm not getting rid of clothes that suit me and have nothing wrong with them so I'm still wearing skinny jeans sometimes.

Me too. I was trying to find one pair of jeans that wasn't so high waisted I looked like Helen Daniels (for those of my age). I went into Selfridges a year ago and they didn't have a single pair that were low-rise. So I ended up buying a few pairs of skinnies from JL as they were.

Clearly I'm about five years too late so I'm going to get my wear out of the skinnies. I also have some bootcut jeans but I'm not wearing flares as I'd feel ridiculous.

Iguanainanigloo · 16/10/2022 16:35

I can't ditch my skinny jeans ever 😭. I'm naturally very slim, and if I wear any other style, I literally look anorexic, as they just hang off me. Skinny jeans accentuate my small, "curves", anything else just looks so unflattering on me, and makes me look ill. I see naturally curvier women in all different styles of jeans and they look so great. Wish I was one of them!

BumWeasel · 16/10/2022 16:36

I'm still wearing bootcut from the first time round. I look ridiculous in skinnies.

TheOGCCL · 16/10/2022 16:43

I think what’s different is that pre pandemic most people wearing jeans would be in skinnies whereas now in London where I am the skinnies do not have nearly such a grip. Doesn’t mean skinnies aren’t around, just not quite as ubiquitous. Although I think skinnies were already overdue an ousting, the pandemic was the nail in the coffin as people wanted more comfort.

I find skinnies much easier to style, they seem to go with most things, keep you warm, dry, you can ride a bike no issue and on someone with short legs like me they are just the most flattering cut, so can’t see me ever ditching them completely.

I think if you and skinnies are meant to be you don’t find them comfortable, just a really easy wardrobe staple. I am quite conscious I’m not in the height of style in them though. I think black ones are better than blue denim.

But I also think our eyes have adjusted so that skinnies seem most flattering whereas many people (including men) actually look more balanced in looser cuts. I suspect that’s probably true for me too.

TheOGCCL · 16/10/2022 16:44

*uncomfortable

Do people wear trainers with wide legged jeans?

Yes definitely, mostly platform trainers.

ScottChegg · 16/10/2022 17:06

I LIVE in them. Have several pairs and there's no way I'm chucking them because of fashion, which I don't give a crap about anyhow.

Not changing to a centre parting either!

Firstly they are the comfiest things ever! I have mostly black but different lengths, thickness, fabrics. I see a lot of floral patterned ones but not a fan personally. And long ones will not be ideal in wet weather of course!

super versatile too! High waisted long ones with a fitted top, cropped ones with a baggy t shirt. Don’t think I’ll ever look back haha!

MrsDThomas · 16/10/2022 17:12

I have a great bum and set of legs. And i look great in skinny jeans. Those baggy thing to nothing for a figure. Ditch them and go back to skinny!

Floisme · 16/10/2022 17:15

No. I'd totally had enough of them and now I switch between straight leg, barrel leg and wide leg and really enjoy the choice. I think even the bad weather qualities of skinnies are overstated - I always disliked the way they clung to my legs when wet, leaving me feeling clammy all day. I find a looser straight leg far more practical.

I love my skinnies, and I looked like a member of the Manson family when I tried a centre parting

the80sweregreat · 16/10/2022 17:20

Mine are comfortable
I don't care what they look like , but with boots and a long t shirt or jumper they look ok

Chateaudiaries · 16/10/2022 17:24

I’m still wearing them with no plans to
stop. They suit me and fit nicely into wellies/boots.

I’m 5’10 and slim build so am lucky that most stuff suits, but when I look at old photos of me with my first dc in 2004 wearing bootleg jeans, I’m not so sure. I still prefer the skinny jean look.

Bestcatmum · 16/10/2022 17:25

No I won't because they would not be skinny on me and look foul on everyone but supermodels.

SkirridHill · 16/10/2022 17:27

I'm still wearing them. Mom jeans look awful on me and totally accentuate my post-caesarean "apron", though I do wish I could wear them as I think they look effortless.

Istolethecookies · 16/10/2022 17:29

I will always wear my skinny's. Give it 5 more years and they'll be on trend again.

Numbat2022 · 16/10/2022 17:31

Yup, in fact I bought some new ones yesterday - Next high rise skinny. Lovely and soft, very flattering. I'm also embracing flares again after not being able to buy them for years, but you need skinnies in soggy winter weather.

Baggy trousers just don't suit me, never have. I need something slim-fitting through the thigh.

Spudlet · 16/10/2022 17:31

Yes. I have some straighter leg styles too and I tend to gravitate to those if I’m going into town, but for dog walking and cycling the practicality of skinnies takes some beating. You can shove them into wellies, they don’t soak up mud and they don’t catch on my bike pedals - I remember having huge splits up the backs of the legs of my wider legged jeans when they used to catch and tear on my bike pedals as a student! Not a good look.

Cattytabby · 16/10/2022 17:32

My cool 20 something ds is still wearing nothing but skinnies. He wears them rolled up.
