Are you still wearing skinny jeans?

I know they're supposed to be going out of fashion at the moment but having tried all other styles, including flares which are supposed to look good on my body shape, skinny jeans are the only ones that look half decent.
All my friends have ditched them, and I've noticed lots of other mums have too at nursery pick up etc.
It doesn't overly bother me but I'm curious as to whether people are fully ditching them or still clinging on like me? 😃

I have several pairs of M&S jeggings - no zip , pull on stretchy and Oh so comfortable but the indigo and black ones can pass for jeans to a blind man on a galloping horse and I have a pair of white ones which with a longish top look OK ( to me ) . I am still quite slim from the bottom down but tummy over time has all gone a bit wrong so with judicious choice of tops / shirts I can pass for relatively. slim.

I think I have established my non fashionista credentials there :)

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 17/10/2022 11:35

Yes and no.

I actually wore my jeggings at the weekend and looked at them and thought... hmmm maybe not...

xogossipgirlxo · 17/10/2022 12:04

Less often than I used to.

I8toys · 17/10/2022 12:14

Yes I'm lucky that my legs are still okay even though my middle is expanding. Mom jeans and baggy ones do not suit me at all. And if leggings are still being worn - leather look etc I can't see why skinny jeans can't be worn.

Leakingroofagain · 17/10/2022 12:16

I do because I can't work out what you do with wider jeans when you're wearing wellies or boots.

pippistrelle · 17/10/2022 12:20

Never worn them. Unless the wearer is super slim, they just end up looking a bit round. Skinny jeans may sometimes be flattering on legs but are quite unforgiving to middles - they quite often create an unbalanced look, imo.

Marketingbear · 17/10/2022 12:23

Yes and if you look at Next and click on Jeans. Then sort by "most popular" you'll see that they're still selling more skinnies than anything else 😁

Nothing beats tangible facts

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/10/2022 14:10

Yes They're the best fit for my body shape and I hate excess material flapping around my ankles

Cameleongirl · 17/10/2022 14:26

I've switched to straight legged jeans, they're not that much different, tbh, just slightly looser. I can still wear a long jumper over them.

I saw someone wearing proper bell bottoms yesterday, they looked pretty good on her, but they don't really appeal to me.

Worriedaboutethics · 17/10/2022 14:53

@Itstheimplication

i love them and will always where mine!

Delatron · 17/10/2022 17:01

I think it depends on your shape and lifestyle. I’m walking the dog/ exercising/ don’t work in an office. For walking the dog in the winter I need something that will tuck in to boots or wellies and will balance the proportions of my huge puffer! Only leggings or skinny jeans will do that. Plus I like a long baggy jumper. With wide jeans/flares/mom you really need a shorter top and jacket. I struggle to make this work in winter..

If I worked in an office I’d be all over wide legged trousers with a loafer and probably look far more fashionable. Mom jeans/wide legged jeans don’t really work with casual boots or wellies.

In Summer I do wear my flares with flatform trainers or wedges. Or rolled up straight leg jeans work well with lots of summer footwear.

I have skinny legs and narrow hips. I look awful in Mom jeans. Skinnies suit me better. Flares look ok.

Greyarea12 · 17/10/2022 18:05

Yep still wearing mine and I think i always will. Rolled up with trainers or sandals (spring/summer) and with boots in winter.

I too have slim hips, skinnies just suit my figure better, I do one pair of m&s straight leg, 4 pairs of oasis scarlett jeans which I get from ebay, they fit like skinnies on the hips and have a small boot cut.

ponderingpaula · 18/10/2022 06:34

I still wear them. I also have bootcut, flares, wide leg, slim, cropped.

I just see it as pick a pair for the outfit/weather, surely that's the most reasonable approach

Itstheimplication · 18/10/2022 11:58

I think a few people have highlighted my problem - it's the change in season. In summer I was wearing looser fit vintage cut mom jeans and they looked flattering with sandals etc but with boots etc I just look all wrong with the ankle gap

Could you wear them with the sock style chunky boot @Itstheimplication?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/10/2022 22:09

Embrace a cute sock @Itstheimplication ! I got great merino wool socks from Finusterre last year which come up quite long, don’t fall down, and look good in the “gap”. Mine are bright or stripy, but they do come in muted colours too.

Aphidsandhoneybees · 18/10/2022 22:29

I almost only wear skinny jeans. Other styles don’t flatter me.

Absolutely this!

Ndd135632 · 19/10/2022 10:04

Nope. No skinnies for me at the moment. Waiting for them to come back again. Switched to wide legged styles as is the current look.

RampantIvy · 19/10/2022 12:00

Waiting for them to come back again.

You must live somewhere more fashion forward than me. Plenty of people still wearing skinnies where I live.

Although it might have something to do with living in a rural and damp part of the world 😁

Seemsok · 19/10/2022 12:04

Yes. Am overweight and legs a bit chubby but still prefer them to baggy jeans!
Have just put my brand new Ivy M and S jeans on and they look as good as I can expect my legs to look 🤦‍♀️

Ndd135632 · 19/10/2022 13:25

@RampantIvy am in London

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 19/10/2022 13:29

I am still wearing them, and will be wearing them to my grave! I have lived long enough to have seen and worn most styles of jeans, and skinnies are the most flattering and practical style IMHO, I will never wear any other type!
