Are you still wearing skinny jeans?

I know they're supposed to be going out of fashion at the moment but having tried all other styles, including flares which are supposed to look good on my body shape, skinny jeans are the only ones that look half decent.
All my friends have ditched them, and I've noticed lots of other mums have too at nursery pick up etc.
It doesn't overly bother me but I'm curious as to whether people are fully ditching them or still clinging on like me? 😃

Yes because they look and feel good. And I don't get rid of perfectly decent clothes just because someone says they are out, it's a waste of my money and resources.
Telling us what is in and out is what keeps the fast fashion industry constantly churning and I'm not buying.

I hink the demise of skinnies is being scuppered by the athletic wear tread. If leggings still look right then skinnies will too.

I’m finding the problem with wider styles is length in the winter. You can get straight jeans and boot cuts really wrong if they are too short or long.

Rutland2022 · 16/10/2022 19:55

Yes and No.
I haven’t worn them since Spring but the looser jeans I loved with sandals or pumps look hideous with wellies and country boots (they make me look enormous then as I’m short) which is how I spend winter. So I think they will be out again until April here.

Fatbabyfeet · 16/10/2022 19:58

I’ll wear them forever. I’m built like a wardrobe so any wide-leg or Mom style jeans look absolutely hideous on me. I’m not following fashion just for the sake of it.

Hoolihan · 16/10/2022 19:58

No and I think they look bad on most people (myself included). Straight are a good compromise but that super skinny, tight around the ankle look is so dated.

ShakeYourFeathers · 16/10/2022 20:00

I never wore them. My thighs are rather unforgiving shall we say. I'm so glad other styles are in fashion again

InFiveMins · 16/10/2022 20:03

I'm still wearing them. They are the only style that suit my body shape.

sarahj878 · 16/10/2022 20:37

I’m still wearing them and can’t imagine not doing so. They’re by far the most flattering and easiest to wear with winter boots. Summer I have some mom and boyfriend jeans for tho

Lilylovetulips · 16/10/2022 20:38

Not sure where the idea that they aren't in fashion anymore has come from. There are lots of other styles out there now but doesn't mean skinnies are unfashionable.

I live in them and wouldn't wear anything else.

LadyApplejack · 16/10/2022 20:40

Yes, they're fabulous! I'll wear them when I'm on old woman probably

Youtube "influencers" like to talk about them not being in style anymore.

MrsTuxedo · 16/10/2022 20:44

A lot of influencers have a weird body shape and skinny jeans would look crap on them.

lljkk · 16/10/2022 20:58

yes I wear them... and if they are going out of fashion then I had better stock up (!!). I flipping loathe flares. Early 2000s was a difficult time, trying to find something that looked good on my legs.

itsnotmeitsu · 16/10/2022 21:03

I have several pairs and will carry on wearing them. I think the thing about skinny jeans is that you can wear them with any type of top, footwear, etc; whatever you feel like wearing on the day. Whereas some styles of jeans need a thought process of what looks good with them to balance them out. Active wear seems to be so popular now for normal day wear that I can't understand why jeans in the form of skinnies should be out. It's all the same shape in the end (except that you can't see the cellulite through skinny jeans).

DarkNecessities · 16/10/2022 21:07

Yes, but I’m styling them differently.
I only wear them with loose, oversized shirts/jumpers.

diamondpony80 · 16/10/2022 21:14

I couldn't do without a pair of black skinny jeans. I don't wear skinnies every day like I used to, but I still wear them.

Changeee1546789 · 16/10/2022 21:26

I have always hated them! I find jeans in general so uncomfortable but skinny jeans are horrible. Having said that my preferred outfit is tracksuits bottoms!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/10/2022 21:29

No, I haven’t worn skinny jeans since about 2018. Barrel, balloon, mum and straight here.

Ticksallboxes · 16/10/2022 21:58

Yes but I've stopped wearing the really skinny ones. I now rotate four pairs of M&S Ivy skinny jeans; two off-white and two light denim.

They're not super skinny though so feel like a nice halfway option.

Rina66 · 17/10/2022 07:14

I like big jumpers over skinny jeans, they just don't seem to look right over baggy jeans. I bought this stripey one last week and I love it, so I still need to wear skinnies, although M & S Lilys work too...

I actually don’t think they’re out as much as people think they are - all the “in” shops are still selling them as new in. And now we’re in boots season it seems like knee high and over the knee suede boots are “in” and they look really good with skinny jeans and long jumpers!

I agree. Mumsnet fashionistas like to think that skinnies are out and trench coats and camel coats are the height of style.

Maybe this is the case in London, but people are still wearing skinnies round here, I can't remember the last time I saw someone in a trench coat and I have never seen anyone wear a camel coat.

The shops round here are still full of skinny jeans.

Devo1818 · 17/10/2022 07:22

I will never stop wearing skinny jeans.

Era · 17/10/2022 07:24

Yes but I’m conscious they look dated

PurpleParrotfish · 17/10/2022 09:23

Yes, but mainly because they are really jeggings disguised as jeans (zip at the top) and the stretch means I can sit and work without them digging painfully into my stomach. My old slim cut jeans look nicer but are only comfortable standing and walking. Joys of being apple shaped with no bum or hips to speak of.

WendyWagon · 17/10/2022 09:50

I have all types, skinny, straight (marks) and some new peg type with roll up legs from Seasalt The latter I wear the most. We are smart country and I don't wear them for work as I have a professional job.
