Is this too dressy for work?

I do realise the dress also has a massive slit up the leg which makes it not very appropriate haha, but otherwise? I think I tend to overdress for work but wondered if a dress of this type would not be too much?

Is this too dressy for work?

I wouldn't wear that to work. But I'm old with no taste so what do I know

wincarwoo · 25/09/2022 19:07

It does look like a wedding outfit

DameCelia · 25/09/2022 19:08

On the cheese counter at Sainsbury, probably.
As a wedding celebrant probably not?

Hillrunning · 25/09/2022 19:09

Well the massive slit makes it inappropriate so what does it matter if it is too dressy, you won't be wearing it.

girlmom21 · 25/09/2022 19:10

Yeah that's too much assuming you're talking standard office job.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 25/09/2022 19:10

That would be ridiculous for work.

Happygirl79 · 25/09/2022 19:11

Not an outfit for work

Adeleskirts · 25/09/2022 19:11

Lol can you imagine

Whataretheodds · 25/09/2022 19:12

Even without a split it would look a bit weird at my workplace. With the split it's totally inappropriate.

InsomniacVampire · 25/09/2022 19:13

Well slit aside obviously! I may wer it to theatre or something then 😂

OP posts:
Hillrunning · 25/09/2022 19:21

But what do you mean, slit aside? Were you planning on sewing up the slit if we all said it wasn't too dressy?

Brideandpredjudice · 25/09/2022 19:23

Where do you live? Winter is practically upon us here and the looks like a summer dress to me!!

Luana1 · 25/09/2022 19:26

Depends what your job is - car mechanic, no but PR type then yes.

OldTinHat · 25/09/2022 19:30

Depends on your job, OP.

Pinktoothbrushesarefab · 25/09/2022 19:32

No for work, yes for a wedding !

InsomniacVampire · 25/09/2022 19:43

@Hillrunning I meant a type of dress, without the slit. I wear mostly dresses to work anyways in various coloirs/patterns etc. As I said, I overdress, not to a ridiculous level so knew the slit would not be approproiate which I mentioned in OP, but I do put a lot of effort in how I look.
It's not an office job per se, but thereabouts.

I just love the type of dress, so need to find an occasion to wear. Sadly no weddings in sight.

Adeleskirts · 25/09/2022 19:55

Why do you over dress for work? If you’d consider this then yes it’s ridiculous. Is it an insecurity thing?

SmileyClare · 25/09/2022 20:04

This is all too cryptic! It’s an anonymous forum so you can say what your job is and post a picture of a dress that you’re actually going to buy.

Unless you’re the prime minister.

InsomniacVampire · 25/09/2022 20:15

@Adeleskirts No need to project yourself onto here. I like to dress nicely, if you do so because of insecurities, that's just you then. I just... like nice clothes :) Everyone has their own style, this is mine. I love bold colours and patterns and things that are a bit different and not typical 'workplace', but if people prefer to wear all black or minimalist and that's cool too.

@Adeleskirts You got me! It's me, the PM, posting after hours. Was hoping to wear this little piece for my work wine and cheese party with Boris next week.

SOrry was meant to tag SmileyClare above, but you can't edit posts sadly.

Adeleskirts · 25/09/2022 20:21

I’m actually not projecting lol I know how to dress appropriately and don’t rock up to work like I’m going to a wedding, I’m the least insecure person you, could meet. So I’m just curious what drives someone to knowingly over dress. I’d assume insecurity as I don’t think secure people do it.

Adeleskirts · 25/09/2022 20:22

Also the fact you need to ask suggests insecurity in itselF? Anyone secure wouldn’t need to seek validation.

PilchardsonToast · 25/09/2022 20:23

Maybe with a jacket or something...I'm often a bit overdressed at work (through choice!!) but even I think that's not right for any sort of office env

catfunk · 25/09/2022 20:30

Absolutely not professional for work

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 25/09/2022 20:36

I'm a very dressy dresser. Never did dress down Friday before lockdown, now back in all my proper office wear.

If your job is in an office, that is not work wear, even without a slit.
