Is this too dressy for work?

I do realise the dress also has a massive slit up the leg which makes it not very appropriate haha, but otherwise? I think I tend to overdress for work but wondered if a dress of this type would not be too much?

@girlmom21 Second hand. Saved loads of money buying stuff people wore once or not at all. You would not believe how many new with tags things people sell off just to recoup the costs of something that didn't fit or they didn't end up liking and have not sent back in time.

I can't think where you might wear that as it's truly horrible.

Beauty is in the eye of beholder, or whatever, I love it! Imagine it would be a bit daft if we only all wore the same clothes and only the ones you like.

It's a lot less dressy if you would pair it with a short green cardi, green leggings and brown boots.

Are you serious? It'd still be hideous but just in a different way. Although I suppose pairing all that with it might be "creative dressing"

The dress would be pretty without the slit and as Stravaig said the weird doily effect on the bodice (which looks even odder and droopier in the video on the link)

I love it.
And I love an eBay bargain.
Win-win on this thread for me.

*but not for the office Wink

I absolutely love that dress , it is beautiful

If I was 20 years younger , 3 stone lighter and didn't wear a bloody nurse uniform all day - I'd wear it myself ! Lush ❤️

Looks quite dressy to me .. but OP .. please wear what ever the hell you want !

Ahh ok - I never find any good bargains like that!

I think it’s got a weirdly mother of the bride kind of vibe.

Milesty1 · 27/09/2022 18:54

I’m very bright and colourful but wouldn’t wear something like this to work. And where I work anything goes.. this just feels really wedding-y -or perhaps for a day out somewhere with a denim jacket too. It’s also not very ‘on trend’ but I don’t know if you’re bothered by that or not.

PreColumbian · 27/09/2022 20:19

it doesn’t scream ‘office’ to me.

Nah not a fan

Ignore the naysayers and wear it. They probably don't suit that type of dress but you obviously do. It would brighten my day if a colleague came in dressed in that.

This reminds me that I used to have a rule that if I was feeling down I would wear my very best clothes to work. I would do myself up and it was often the first step to me feeling better. It really worked.

What a strange comment. Posters are saying no because it's not office wear. I doubt anyone is jealous of that dress or that they wouldn't look good in it.

Who said anything about jealousy? It might not be your style, but it might be hers. I had a friend who dressed for the office each day as though she was mother of the bride. That was her style and it was great. If the office allows it then why not?

I am of an older generation, but for me and others I knew it was always about breaking the "rules" of fashion and standing out from the crowd.

For example, I have never understood the "rule" about not wearing bright colours in the Winter. I never stick to it and get my bright clothes out. The Winter is when you most need cheering up!
