M&S have changed their trouser length, but it's a secret!!

So, went to try on jeans today in M&S. I am a 5 ft 6 height, always been regular length.

Tried on regular length jeans, and they are too long. Happened to have a short pair in the changing room with me anyway and they were spot on.

My mum, who was also trying on jeans, wear a short length and they are too long for her. She's 5 ft 2. There is no extra short term length.

Spoke to a staff member and yes, they have changed the leg length but not advertising it. "Yes, lots of people have been caught out and complained about it!"

So beware if you are ordering or trying on and take a shorter than normal length in with you.

I’ve noticed this! I was a long but regular suddenly fit me.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/09/2022 14:00

Well good news for me as I have 33in inside leg and regular is always just a little too short. But how annoying to change it without publicising!

Gonksmum · 07/09/2022 14:02

Yes. Bought some trousers earlier this year having always been a Regular length (I'm 5.5") and they were dragging on the floor. Guess I'm a Short now!

Lucienandjean · 07/09/2022 14:06

Yep, spotted this recently. It's so annoying. I've always taken regular length. Now regular is too long and short is ok, but just a tiny bit too short. Maddening. I'm 5'7". In what sort of world am I short??

Particularly annoying in jeans as they are so hard to alter.

HiGunny · 07/09/2022 14:09

Who are the 7ft tall people that will fit the long length so? I'm only 5ft 2 so the short length usually suits me...do I not exist anymore in M&S world?

SalviaOfficinalis · 07/09/2022 14:12

I feel very smug now. I’m 5’6 so have always worn regular. But I’ve just ordered a few pairs of trousers online and ordered them in short as the regular size looked long on the 5’10 model in the picture.

LadyEloise1 · 07/09/2022 14:12

Why ?
So some department ( obviously not HR but could be Research and Development ) in M&S can justify itself. 🙄

A lot of the ones I saw online had an “extra short” option. That’s probably the old short/petite option.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/09/2022 14:13

That would explain why the waistband of the new ones I've bought is suddenly just under my ribs rather than on my actual waist!

PineappleWilson · 07/09/2022 14:15

Why would they think that customers want to think of themselves as "extra short"? Really?

Snid · 07/09/2022 14:15

If I’m 5ft 7 and have always been regular, am I now short? I’m not sure I want to be short! I don’t feel short…

Yalz · 07/09/2022 14:17

That's silly. I am 5' 4" which isn't particularly short, especially among people of my old age - which must be many of M&S's shoppers. Short length has been fine for me, so they will be too long in future.

"Particularly annoying in jeans as they are so hard to alter"
@Lucienandjean have you seen way to shorten jeans quickly by hand or machine? There are several other but similar methods shown on Youtube.

Suedomin · 07/09/2022 14:17

So what about those of us who normally buy short. Is there nothing for us?

LuciferRising · 07/09/2022 14:20

What about those of us around or under 5 foot! Extra short won't even fit 😂

Stressybetty · 07/09/2022 14:20

I think regular used to be 29" and short around 27". Don't know what they've changed them to. What annoys me is that there are never any short jean sizes on their online app

ScattyHattie · 07/09/2022 14:20

I wondered why my usual length jeans were now too long but thought maybe I got a rogue pair. Surely would've more sense to leave rest of the sizes alone and just add a new extra leg length or at least advertise the new sizing changes like Primark did.

Carpediem15 · 07/09/2022 14:21

I have stopped buying trousers in M and S for this reason, I wore short and now they don't have any length which fits me and I am not messing about altering jeans. Some styles have petite or extra short length but not many so I don't bother even looking there now.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 07/09/2022 14:22

It’s so stupid. I’m 5’3” and M&S short were the only trousers I didn’t have to take up. Maddening.

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/09/2022 14:23

This makes so much sense! I bought some jeans the other day, in regular as usual. They are so long that I checked the label again to make sure I had bought the right length. Why the hell wouldn't they advertise this?!

Boomboom22 · 07/09/2022 14:24

Young people are so much taller now though that 5 4 is now pretty short, 6 ft is becoming quite normal and certainly 5 10 in 6th form and even younger?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/09/2022 14:27

Won't anyone ever consider the very short of leg! 😥

ZandathePanda · 07/09/2022 14:27

If you’re very short maybe long shorts are the new trouser?

ZandathePanda · 07/09/2022 14:28

Fuzzy that wasn’t a reply to you, this thread is moving v fast!

Mosaic123 · 07/09/2022 14:30

Cotton Traders have 27inch leg length in most of their styles.

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2022 14:35

That explains it. I was wondering why my usual longs were now too long for me. I'm not shrinking in my old age Grin
