M&S have changed their trouser length, but it's a secret!!

So, went to try on jeans today in M&S. I am a 5 ft 6 height, always been regular length.

Tried on regular length jeans, and they are too long. Happened to have a short pair in the changing room with me anyway and they were spot on.

My mum, who was also trying on jeans, wear a short length and they are too long for her. She's 5 ft 2. There is no extra short term length.

Spoke to a staff member and yes, they have changed the leg length but not advertising it. "Yes, lots of people have been caught out and complained about it!"

So beware if you are ordering or trying on and take a shorter than normal length in with you.

If anyone buys the Harper jeans, let me know if they're longer than usual! The long length is a touch too short (I have the turned up version) and could do with a new pair

Their leg length has always seemed a bit random to me. I'm 5ft 10 and have a pair of wide leg ones in regular that I wear with heels, yet other trousers I need long

Pigeon31 · 08/09/2022 05:55

I do also wish they'd put the length in cm/ in on their trousers, like men's do

They are probably just bringing their range in line with others eg DP, Topshop. The M&S tall has always been way shorter. Next is still too short though

Have you checked the size range online @Moltenpink ?
Next do Long, Tall, and Extra Tall. When you filter by size I think a 10 Extra Tall is something like 10 XXL Tall. They're very long.

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 06:52

What?
I bought regular the other day please don't tell me I'm going to have to trek back with them- 😠
Their Per-una jeans were always longer than the normal jeans because they expected them to be worn with high heels.

Next have added inches to their boys jeans. My DS has some age 10 from Next that are longer than others.

Would be much easier if they went by actual measurements.

Dogscanteatonions · 08/09/2022 06:57

That explains it! I bought wide leg trousers they other day in a regular and they were far too long! I'm 5'6 and never worn a short in my life. Tried the short and they were a bit too small. Ended up taking both back

No I haven’t checked for years, thanks I will take a look

completelyunderwhelmed · 08/09/2022 14:26

After 20 years of being unable to buy trousers, I'm so pleased it's now possible! Petite ranges were always bigger than the tall ones. I'm 5ft 10.5 with a 36 inch leg!

Runningincircles · 08/09/2022 14:50

Ooh maybe they will have something to fit me! Everything has always been too short. Maybe the long will be long enough now.

CousinGregg · 08/09/2022 17:18

Good! Finally Long might actually be long enough

GettingStuffed · 08/09/2022 18:45

I bought my MiL some extra short trousers from the M&S website yesterday

EVHead · 08/09/2022 22:39

My tiny mum says M&S trousers used to fit her perfectly but now she has to take them to a tailor to be shortened.

LuckyAmy1986 · 09/09/2022 10:30

What's the reason though?

tobee · 09/09/2022 16:00

I'm sure there was a time, ten or so years back, when they did this (several brands) and suddenly all trousers were ridiculously long. And then they seemed to go back to normal and I was no longer having to buy petite. Just regular. Now they've changed again Confused

What's the reason though?

I'm sure it's to do with fashion of heeled boots or rolled up jeans.

If you know the video that goes along with the song by The Who sung by Elton John called "Pin Ball Wizard", I'd probably need the style and height of boots he wore in that video to get away with not needing the "Regular" leg length turned up.

EllaPaella · 12/09/2022 14:09

Why is it a secret though?

Cervinia · 12/09/2022 14:17

Yes! I bought some ankle grazers which would
normally have been a true fit at regular but I had to get short. At five foot five I don’t think I’m short!

its probAbly been done to cater for all those transgender women who are a regular at five foot 8.

LookItsMeAgain · 12/09/2022 15:02

My order arrived...and it's going back!
The trousers I got are a good 4 - 6 inches too long and that is the regular length.

Also I've noticed, if there is a pair of trousers and they come in different colours/patterns, not all of the colours/patterns is available in these various leg lengths.

Yep. At petite sizes, you have to be content with fewer options. Probably similar for tall ranges.

Young people are so much taller now though that 5 4 is now pretty short, 6 ft is becoming quite normal and certainly 5 10 in 6th form and even younger?

Maybe, but M&S isn't that popular with young people.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 12/09/2022 19:41

I looked the other day with my very short Mother. They haven't scrapped the old lengths, just added more, so what used to be short is now extra short.

CocteauTwin · 12/09/2022 19:52

I'm 5ft 2ins and M&S Short length trousers and jeans have been (mostly) too long for at least 5 years now, it's a massive bugbear of mine. I used be sure anything in short length would fit perfectly. This is great for taller women, but infuriating for us short arses. Especially as very few styles are available in extra short length.

gogohmm · 12/09/2022 20:12

They periodically change them - I used to wear their shirt but had to switch to standard about 6 years ago when they started cutting them shorter, sounds like they have returned to the original sizing

Same (I'm 5" 1). If they want to relabel everything and have some extra short sizes then fine but they're not in store. And if I'm ordering online, I want to know the actual leg length.

Extra short was in store this week at our local town centre branch. It isn't normally a particularly large or well stocked branch so I expect that they will be available in most larger stores.
