M&S have changed their trouser length, but it's a secret!!

So, went to try on jeans today in M&S. I am a 5 ft 6 height, always been regular length.

Tried on regular length jeans, and they are too long. Happened to have a short pair in the changing room with me anyway and they were spot on.

My mum, who was also trying on jeans, wear a short length and they are too long for her. She's 5 ft 2. There is no extra short term length.

Spoke to a staff member and yes, they have changed the leg length but not advertising it. "Yes, lots of people have been caught out and complained about it!"

So beware if you are ordering or trying on and take a shorter than normal length in with you.

Very happy with this news! As a 6ft tall lady it's always been hard to find proper length trousers. Now just need to convince them that some of us have bigger feet too 🤔

I've found, at 5 ft 3, the wide cropped jeans in the sale were the perfect full length on me. So if you're little, just buy everything cropped.

Tall women aren't men.

everything is not about trans people.

Anyway, it would be better to just improve the tall/short ranges

PronounMadness · 07/09/2022 18:44

I‘m aware of that, not being a tall woman myself.

but it’s clear from the moderated reviews on the M+S website that men are loving their women’s clothes now unashamedly. Given the clear differences between male and female body shapes, it’s pretty clear which direction they’re heading in.

PronounMadness · 07/09/2022 18:44

*being a tall woman

terriblyangryattimes · 07/09/2022 19:13

Oh dear! I better learn how to hem jeans then! 5'3 and usually get m&s short length jeans!

WhereAreWeNow · 07/09/2022 19:36

That's good news for me. I've always found their trousers - even the longer length ones - too short.

Longdistance · 07/09/2022 21:49

I wrote to M&S complimenting them on their xl length trousers and could they make more. Could be my fault 😳
Tbh, mens trousers come in different lengths, why not women? We’re not all the same height!

Can you ask them to bring back their Spring Onion crisps?!

Magenta82 · 07/09/2022 21:52

FFS I'm not quite 5' 1" I'm going to have to start buying cropped trousers if I want to get them to fit!

userxx · 07/09/2022 21:55

I'm 5 ft 7 and I had to return a pair of regular length trousers as they were far too long.

Moltenpink · 07/09/2022 21:56

They are probably just bringing their range in line with others eg DP, Topshop. The M&S tall has always been way shorter. Next is still too short though

Yes! Me too!

BuwchGochGota · 07/09/2022 22:00

I've always needed long in M&S but bought a new pair of jeans a couple of weeks ago and had to take the long back and exchange for a regular. I thought it was just the style, but evidently not!

No it's not!

There was a documentary on ages ago that showed how M&S change their sizing regularly to reflect changes in the average sizes of people. I guess that is still the case.

lljkk · 07/09/2022 22:30

As someone who is too thin for the assumed trouser leg length in many things, this change sounds promising.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 07/09/2022 14:22

It’s so stupid. I’m 5’3” and M&S short were the only trousers I didn’t have to take up. Maddening.

I'm just short of 5 feet and never needed to hem M&S short trousers. So much for buying them again. I'll move back to LandsEnd they do short ones that will fit me without altering.

PremiumPiglet · 07/09/2022 22:43

PineappleWilson · 07/09/2022 14:15

Why would they think that customers want to think of themselves as "extra short"? Really?

maybe
reet petite would be better

JulesJules · 07/09/2022 22:53

Ah this explains it, as other pps have said, I thought it must be me that was shrinking. I had to get the short length, and I'm 5.6

But there are still lots of trouser-buying short women.
I wonder if the distribution of heights is wider than in the past? When they first started selling jeans, it would nearly all have been to younger people. Also there's a larger range of ethnicities, that would tend to broaden the height distribution too. In which case they need more length choices not just make everything longer.

Oblomov22 · 07/09/2022 23:14

How inconsiderate. Twats! I am very small and always needed a short. This had irritated me immensely.

agree with this. Add to the sizes not use a blunt tool. I already get annoyed that I’m too short to reach top shelf in supermarkets.

Uniqlo were great; if trousers wrong length they would shorten them for free.

This is not good!
