Anyone wearing a gilet this year?

I liked the long oversized ones I saw last year but didn’t get one thinking they were a fad. They are still selling them in lots of stores and online so was thinking of getting one. I saw a short one with a hood on the M&S website from Joules which was almost exactly like I wore at least 15 years ago and it’s still in the back of a spare wardrobe. I might dig it out now!

I am a fan. Big fan. So easy to wear and I like the waterproof ones with a hood for walking in. Just hip length for me though, the long ones would be too long on this short arse person!

I really wanted one last year but was too late, so I spotted one today online that I'm going to grab in store tomorrow. Perfect for in between days (and I'm always cold and in need of another layer).

Andrelax3 · 06/09/2022 20:21

I’ve just bought a long hooded one from M&S. I love it. Can’t wait for it to be cold enough to wear it!

NameChangeLifeChange · 06/09/2022 20:23

I got a cream one which I wore to death last year and have just got a lovely khaki one. Love it layered over jeans and coats, even over dresses. I wore mine so much last year that it’s all marked!

Iamthewombat · 06/09/2022 20:26

The only time I wore one, over a sweater to go to the supermarket, my husband told me that Ilooked “like a farmer”. I never wore it again! I don’t love the short gilets TBH. They have a bit of a ‘Boden mummy trying to look posh’ vibe that I think is a bit cliched and old fashioned (sorry, gilet lovers!)

Sally99 · 06/09/2022 20:31

I can't live without mine so I'm either in fashion or about to come back into fashion!

AlexandraJJ · 06/09/2022 20:32

Coincidentally I’ve just bought two, one for DD who’s 10 from river island. I looked all over for a similar adult one and couldn’t find an exact match. I didn’t want the boxy ones with no shape in them as I’m short and I looked like I was wearing a duvet. Anyway found one at the weekend. Came in handy today on the school run with the rain 😃

Sally99 · 06/09/2022 20:40

@AlexandraJJ I shall now always wonder if I look like a duvet!Grin

BakersYeast · 06/09/2022 20:41

I got a long one from Silk Fred last year - very warm and with hood. I love it for Autumn.

dementedma · 06/09/2022 20:43

Yes. Have a navy fleece one which I will live in all winter. Cant beat em

SignOnTheWindow · 06/09/2022 20:44

Not sure I should admit this in the S&B section, but I plan to wear a good puffy gilet under (whisper it) a onesie this winter. Not outside, mind. Just in the house so I can cope with the heating being turned right down.

limitededitionbarbie · 06/09/2022 21:31

Yes deffo wearing mine from last year.

KangarooKenny · 06/09/2022 21:32

I’ve got a longer one for dog walking, I love it .

FitFat · 06/09/2022 21:35

Look great on others but I am short so they dont suit me. Size 10ish but still no good.

TheChosenTwo · 06/09/2022 21:50

Arghhhh! I wouldn’t wear one this year or any year to be honest, same as a fleece!
loads of people wear them though, I never understood the appeal personally, but then I’m quite a bulky person in general so these would just add more bulk around my torso 😂

Oblomov22 · 06/09/2022 21:52

Watching with interest. Just got back from a 4 day holiday in Talllinn with my mum. Haven't been on holiday with her since I was a late teen. 30 years! She lost her lovely grey / camel brown tk- max gillet at security. Truely gutted. Might try and buy her a new one.

Oblomov22 · 06/09/2022 21:53

It was short. Sized 12. I need to search.

SILdidittoo · 06/09/2022 21:59

Tesco have long black ones, £36, very tempted...

meateatingveggie · 06/09/2022 23:05

I love them. I have 3, one of which is that thick fleece stuff (borg?) which is ancient but I wear in the house. Love it.

spinningpenguin · 06/09/2022 23:31

I wear mine a lot, casual/sport way but also under my smart leather jacket or under smart camel coat when it gets very cold Grin

KangarooKenny · 07/09/2022 07:50

I have a fleece gilet which is great when it’s cold. Wouldn’t be seen dead out of the house in it, but it will be used a lot this winter.

Caspianberg · 07/09/2022 07:55

I saw a lovely thin woollen one the other day. Like a cross between a woolen vest and gilet. Might get one.

21reasons · 07/09/2022 08:39

I might get a fleecy one that I can wear around the house.
