Anyone wearing a gilet this year?

I liked the long oversized ones I saw last year but didn’t get one thinking they were a fad. They are still selling them in lots of stores and online so was thinking of getting one. I saw a short one with a hood on the M&S website from Joules which was almost exactly like I wore at least 15 years ago and it’s still in the back of a spare wardrobe. I might dig it out now!

Thanks @Caspianberg

I have an ageing North Face gilet and another newer one. I am thinking of getting a cheaper one just for pottering about.

Applebark · 08/09/2022 12:11

I have a down FatFace one I've been wearing for years. I don't really get cold arms when wearing it because it keeps the core temp warm and I just put hands in the pockets.

Ladyofthelake53 · 09/09/2022 08:12

I have two gilet not the padded sort though mine are fake fur, they are very versatile I find

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2022 08:44

I was thinking about buying one (with zipped side pockets which is a bonus) but I'd look a bit Sloane Ranger if I wore it over a shirt
And I used to wear one when I went horse-riding .

So a 'no' from me !

Nope ,, think they are awful , also don't understand them , don't your arms get cold/wet?

We dress casual in the office and I think they are good for keeping your body warm but your arms free on a really cold day.

Annisa1 · 09/09/2022 09:13

Can I ask where you got it from I also need a non boxy one

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2022 16:40

I went to Costco today , they had zipped up , zipped pocket lightly padded gilets ( black/grey/teal/blush) about £13ish

You Enablers ...I bought one !

I got one of these too.
Couldn't resist a bargain and it's thin enough for under a coat when it's extra cold.

I love a gilet, so practical and easy. It’s great that they became trendy 🙂

LoveBeingAMum555 · 20/09/2022 18:37

I have a brown fake fur one that I bought from Tesco years ago. It is so warm and comfy, not too sure about the style factor but I rather like it (even if DH says I look like I have a dead animal draped around me). I also have a navy blue Joules one that is good for dog walking.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/09/2022 18:40

I live in a body warmer at this time of year when it’s a bit warm for a coat but too cold without. Handy for dog walking when it’s nice to have something to keep the chill off. I’ve got a lovely old Joules tweed one that I’ve had for years and about three quilted ones. Couldn’t care less what fashion victims wear, I’m a curmudgeon and quite happy in my body warmers. 😄

doingmyboxin · 20/09/2022 18:59

I'm thinking of getting this one, if anyone has it and can comment on it?

Lands end have lots of sizes and petite, regular and tall.
I live in a tweedy market town so I wear one some of the time. However never in London.

Picoloangel · 20/09/2022 19:19

I like a gilet for dog walking and this winter am going full duvet with a number I’ve ordered from ssshhhh George at Asda…£32. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 20/09/2022 19:50

I love gilets. I bought two, black and khaki, about 15 years ago and still wear. I live in a city centre and they’re perfect for popping out with the dog, to the shops. Wear now as the weather gets cold and then again in spring with a selection of Zara’s current colour polo neck jumpers (the £19.99 ones). Never with a t-shirt or shirt - ughh.
I’m small on top (less so below…) and so they don’t smother and also give lots of warmth. Hope helpful!

Me too! Love my fat face one 😄

TwoMonthsOff · 20/09/2022 19:52

They’re comfy when driving

Picoloangel · 20/09/2022 21:06

I have a down FatFace one that I bought in a sale and have had for at least 15 years. I love it. Lots of pockets and perfect for a dog walk when it’s cold when you start off but you get warmer as you get going.

Scottsy100 · 20/09/2022 21:06

And the winner of the most Mumsnet comment of the day is……. 😆😆

TwoMonthsOff · 20/09/2022 21:12

@Scottsy100
oooh I feel paranoid now 😢

Wallabyone · 20/09/2022 21:31

I don't have one, but last year someone stopped me when I was shopping in my local town and asked where they might be able to buy a gill-et (like gullet with an i 😂), it took me ages to understand what she meant!

AnnieSnap · 20/09/2022 22:52

@doingmyboxin Looks good 👍
