Anyone wearing a gilet this year?

I liked the long oversized ones I saw last year but didn’t get one thinking they were a fad. They are still selling them in lots of stores and online so was thinking of getting one. I saw a short one with a hood on the M&S website from Joules which was almost exactly like I wore at least 15 years ago and it’s still in the back of a spare wardrobe. I might dig it out now!

I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t make me look like Barbera Woodhouse. And not in a good way.

Barbara Woodhouse doesn't get referenced enough on S&B.

IamTheBridge · 21/09/2022 09:42

Or Vera !

xogossipgirlxo · 21/09/2022 14:53

I am, but it's knee lenght, they look bit modern IMO.

LadyAstor · 24/09/2022 15:41

Im looking for a longline one as i think the short ones look a bit dated now.

Has anyone seen any in light-ish navy or darkish beige? I'm blonde/blue/pale skinned so dont look good in black or khaki.

LimeCheesecake · 24/09/2022 16:25

its not for me, but then if I’m cold enough to need one, my arms need covering too. I’d end up with a coat as well and it’s too many layers. Do you all have oddly hot arms?!

TwoMonthsOff · 24/09/2022 17:49

@LadyAstor
Lands End have a nice quilted one with a wrap collar and asymmetric zip…looks a bit different than the usual ones, not it is long-line, they often apply a 40% discount code automatically as well.

Mine is from next. Last year. Am guessing they will have similar this year

i saw the long ones advertised the other day & thought they'd be great for dig walking, then saw a woman (early 20's I'd say, slim, pretty, gorgeous hair) wearing one and she looked like a prize twat! So I decided at 53, barrel shaped, 5ft, that perhaphs I'd not bother!!

might be ok if you're very tall & very slim.

limitededitionbarbie · 24/09/2022 22:30

I'm 43. Barrell shaped size 16.

I fucking love mine. It hides everything. It's a bit flattering I think. I think anyway. If I think it hides my stomach or at least disguises I don't have one at the moment then it's flattering.

It's warm. It has decent sized pockets. It's from next with the honeycomb stitching. It was £65 this time last year. Will no doubt be over £100 now 🤦🏽‍♀️

nzeire · 24/09/2022 22:40

YUK!

sorry :)

limitededitionbarbie · 24/09/2022 22:41

Everyone has probably just read my post and thought "no it's not flattering at all!!"

Lol. I'm just at the point now where I am not bothered. I need pockets more.

HilarityEnsues · 24/09/2022 22:44

Short answer, yes! Got one in a charity shop this week, great for this weather, wore with loose minidress, tights and clompy boots with slight heel (I'm not over heels just yet). My teens approved which is good enough for me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/09/2022 22:52

I struggle with a hot core and cold arms. Are arm warmers a thing?

whereamu · 25/09/2022 08:24

I have two and wear them all winter indoors and under thick coats too!
Brilliant for keeping your core warm and an extra layer.
I have a very unflattering fleece one and a lovely flattering Barbour one.
I plan to wear it with a kuddly over the top this winter when indoors!
@OhYouBadBadKitten have a look at cashmere or wool wrist warmers.

findthewayhome · 25/09/2022 09:01

Where can I get one to hide a huge stomach, arms and legs? Everytime I wear one I look like a sausage.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/09/2022 19:10

DD wanted a gilet so we searched yesterday .
There are some utter monstrosities out there Shock

She got one in Superdry , removeable hood , zipped pockets , enough room for a jumper underneath .

I haven't worn my Costco beauty yet but it'll make ts debut soon.

NeedWineNow · 25/09/2022 22:30

Yes, I've got a short one with a good from Crew Clothing which I've had for a few years. I tried on a long stone coloured one in Zara last weekend which I loved. DH suggested it went on my Xmas list....

NeedWineNow · 25/09/2022 22:31

Hood not good!

HilarityEnsues · 26/09/2022 11:59

I found one in a charity shop (yay!) and it is a bit shaped so doesn't have the sausage effect. I love a warm core but arms free for driving/typing.

PeloFondo · 26/09/2022 12:35

Wearing my ugly wool one today Grin

Mollysocks · 26/09/2022 20:44

I have this. Boyfriend hates it but I love it. Keeps me warm without feeling stuffed in the arms of a coat.

ThisShipIsSinking · 26/09/2022 20:53

Yes me, l have a long black faux fur one that l wear over my long boho autumn dresses with ankle boots. l am very tall and slim, l like this look, works better than a jacket or cardigan.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 27/09/2022 09:15

Whenever I've tried them I've felt silly in them or not warm enough.

In past I've had padded ones, a fluffy black one from Oasis etc.

My local boutique has the long padded ones.

that's my question - if I wear a gilet my core is nice and toasty but my arms get cold.
