Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 23/07/2022 12:26

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

@Babysharkdoodoodood your DH is being soooo unreasonable!

I suggest that you tell him that you're feeling rather cross & are going out one morning & will be back around early evening.
Then take yourself off to Majorca on the ferry for some retail advent calendar therapy 😂

@SoloCat

Yes I'd quite like to get CB, but given the way that they announce it with no notice, I don't want to rely on getting it. I don't know whether I should just go for Liberty to be on the safe side

I don't want to not get CB and then Liberty be sold out too! I imagine that Liberty will be popular this year because of the beauty drop

Did they announce it last year at the last minute? I wasn’t interested in CB last year, so didn’t keep track.
I’m thinking of going for the Liberty for the same reasons…at least with my credit and vouchers it feels a lot less of an outlay. Then if I happen to have the CB option…well I may just have to spoil myself 😁
Fingers crossed for Harrods reveal asap….it’s a slippery slope down the advent rabbit 🐇 hole.
Oh midnight…I feel your dilemma. 🤯

FredaFox · 18/09/2022 14:43

Just spotted an advert for kiehls if anybody is into them

www.kiehls.co.uk/gifts/category/limited-edition/limited-edition-holiday-advent-calendar/WW0223KIE.html

MidnightMeltdown · 18/09/2022 15:19

@SoloCat

Yes Cult Beauty never announce their release date, so you just have to hope that you're available when it suddenly gets released. I think that they did have two drops last years though.

Eaumyword · 18/09/2022 18:15

I've had the Kiehls one before and loved it. This year's is full of teeny tiny sample sizes, so I discounted it on that basis, I had a look in store last week. If they want £100 for it, it needs to feel like better value imho. Maybe a £10 store voucher inside or something.
I'm really excited to open my House of Fraser and L'Occitane ones for my Birthday in Nov!

LookdeepintotheParka · 18/09/2022 19:30

Looking at the contents again, I don't think I'm going for M&S this year. I don't like the perfume and there's a few other things that are tiny sample sizes and brands I don't like e.g Prai 🙄
I'm now thinking Clinique as it suits my skin and there's 4 full-size products but wonder if it'll feel a bit dull and samey being a single brand only?

Anyone had the Clinique calendar before? Would you recommend?

chloechloe · 18/09/2022 20:00

So I’ve been stalking the thread without posting, trying to convince myself I will not buy a calendar this year, in view of the major stash of products I have. But let’s be honest, I’m just kidding myself.

My choice is a bit limited (EU) but I’d be happy with Liberty or CB, which I’ve had in the past. It’s good that Liberty has finally put some different products in there. But I think I’ll go for CB - I’m a sucker for the multiple items per day!

Now on a mission to use lots of stuff up before December!

TheDuchessOfMN · 18/09/2022 21:17

I’m outside of the UK too @chloechloe so pretty limited. What are your thoughts on Flannels? I feel it’s luxury but not as expensive as Liberty or Cult Beauty.
Brown Thomas will probably do one too but as far as I can remember from last year, it was €300.

SoloCat · 18/09/2022 21:44

@MidnightMeltdown I remember Harrods having a second drop although they changed some of the items second time around….not for the better though. Quite disappointed at missing the first one!
Did they change items on the CB?

SoloCat · 18/09/2022 22:06

@chloechloe I was trying to convince myself not to get one this year..as I too have a lot of products to use. This thread is far too enabling 😁
Liberty is better this year than last, never had the CB before but it seems extremely popular. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either..or both 🤔

@LookdeepintotheParka I was looking at the Kate Somerville as I do like the products, was thinking the same as you’ve mentioned though…a bit the same and maybe not as exciting, but if you will use the products go for it 😊 I used to like Clinique, haven’t tried any for years though.

MidnightMeltdown · 18/09/2022 22:48

@SoloCat

Oh really?! That's bad!

CB didn't change anything as far as I'm aware. I bought it in the first drop

Luvacuppatea2 · 19/09/2022 06:03

@SoloCat i kept looking at Harrods last year as I was very tempted at one stage! You are right , the Sunday Riley CEO was replaced by something in a blue pot after the first drop. Tidal cream / moisturiser I think . Anyway, I’ve just had a look and the Tidal stuff has been discontinued 😳, so the calendar wasn’t a good introduction to the product if you couldn’t repurchase, just Harrods dumping (potentially) old stock!!!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/09/2022 10:13

Spotted Niche Beauty caledar beautyadventcalendar.net/niche-beauty-advent-calendar-2022/. Haven't heard of them before but it looks interesting. It looks like they ship to the EU but I'm not sure which countries they will ship the calendar to. It says not available for your country for Ireland but that could be just that it's not on stock? Of course I had gone through it and added it to the spreadsheet before I noticed that on the page.

While it has a couple of the usual suspects, there are also some products that are new to me. There are a couple of drawers of doom (nail varnish, lipstick with a colour that doesn't suit me) for me but, other than the "what on earth were they thinking" one, it looks good. They also do 15% discount for first order.

The "what on earth were they thinking" one is a notepad and pencil. Obviously however was putting it together thought it was only 24 days and when they realised it was 25, had a panicked search through their desk drawers and all they could find was the notepad and pencil.

@OchonAgusOchonOh Niche beauty are a German retailer that stock mostly luxury cosmetic brands. I’ve ordered from them before for U.K. delivery which was quick and efficient.

Calendar looks quite interesting and a different mix of products, though mostly quite small. What I would also note is that Niche Beauty almost permanently have some sort of GWP offer. Usually within a week or so of one GWP ending they release another one. So if you are tempted to get the calendar, definitely worth waiting to do it when you’re likely to get a good GWP as well, which would make it rather better value.

I think with the 15% first purchase discount and a gwp, it could be pretty decent value. But yes, I did think sizes were pretty small so definitely not worth full price.

Interestingly, when I looked at it yesterday, the discount was 20% but it's 15% today. If I'm thinking of getting it, I'll clear cookies and hopefully get the 20% again.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/09/2022 14:56

Had another look at the Niche Beauty and realised the reason it says not available is due to the perfume and not just because it's not in stock. Total waste of time filling in my spreadsheet.

Ah well, it might be of use to those living on the mainland who are close enough to Germany for surface shipping.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2022 06:47

The JL AC details have finally been revealed. It looks good although unfortunately I already have the Charlotte Tilbury palette. A good palette is usually one of the deciding items for me.

KimmySchmitt · 20/09/2022 06:54

First impressions of JL are good! I'll look properly later. At first it looked similar to last year but there are enough different brands and products to probably make it worth me getting again. Slightly better price point than the ones that are £200+ too

PomRuns · 20/09/2022 07:04

Like the look of JL, will have to work my use cost later.

AprilLady · 20/09/2022 07:08

JL calendar: beautyadventcalendar.net/john-lewis-beauty-advent-calendar-2022/

I think they have nailed it this year. I don’t have this particular CT palette, and overall it looks an excellent range of products from an excellent range of brands - great mix of skincare, make-up, perfume, bath and body and the only hair product is Olaplex 3, which is a plus for me. Will definitely be adding it to my spreadsheet later.

I think especially if you don’t have a big stash, and haven’t had a luxury calendar before, this would be an excellent choice, especially as it’s under £200.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2022 07:26

It has the ubiquitous Exfolikate, but I really like that it has a minimum of hair products. CB has so many deep conditioning hair products. The perfumes are good sizes too. The SPF and full size serums look good. I'm disappointed with the palette (as I have it and it would be my favourite window), but when I add up the cost of the full sizes that I really like they far exceed the AC's price.

Zeeza · 20/09/2022 07:47

Oh god. The job lewis calendar is so damn good. I'm going to have to buy it, aren't it? Some absolute hero products for me
And even the disappointing ones like the lumene aren't bad.

Stoic123 · 20/09/2022 07:53

JL is looking good for me. Had their calendar last year and really liked the good mix/balance and think they've managed to do the same again.

Roundaboot · 20/09/2022 07:59

John Lewis looks brilliant! The only duff thing for me is the salt scalp scrub as I don't think it's CG friendly, and even if it is, I don't feel the need for a scalp scrub but I can sell/swap it.
I've wanted to try Olaplex for ages so I'm thrilled with that and there seems to be some great skincare and fragrance too

Peridot1 · 20/09/2022 08:00

John Lewis seems really good value for the price. I’d go for that if I was getting a more luxury one.
