Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

Loving JLP. I actually really like that Lumene product, don’t have that CT palette, loved last years Mac lippy and here there’s a new colour, plus a full size Neon candle. Excellent offering.

Doubleraspberry · 20/09/2022 08:18

Oh, I agree! I wanted not to like any of the more expensive ones but there is plenty in there to like. And I start a new job on 3 October so it feels like an omen.

polmnlj · 20/09/2022 08:20

I would also go to JL if I would buy a luxury calendar. It was the same last year.

properdoughnut · 20/09/2022 08:25

The John Lewis one looks good. Just a heads up that the elemis essence is only the smaller 28ml bottle but I have this and its lasted me months as you just use one or two tiny drops!

wheresmyshoe · 20/09/2022 08:37

I really like JL, great selection of products, definitely a contender.

PomRuns · 20/09/2022 08:47

Hmm so I now have to decide between Liberty or JL or get both.

@properdoughnut do you use the essence before moisturiser?

Luvacuppatea2 · 20/09/2022 08:55

@PomRuns i think you should get both 😊- not trying to ‘enable’ or anything, but I already have Fortnums and am now seriously considering JL. I resisted Cohorted recently and really don’t need another calendar, but if others were to get two, I’d feel more justified 🤣.
Loving the range of stuff in JL. The pallet; lipstick; fragrances; a Votary serum (I love Votary products); candle and eye cream all stand out. I need a new eye cream and this Oto one has good reviews. I’ve put my name on the wait list……..

I had two last year as well (or maybe three….oops) so I agree, JLP plus Liberty or CB or F&M is reasonable for sure :)

Yes just before moisturiser. I use it instead of a serum in the morning routine.

greywinds · 20/09/2022 09:11

JL is a strong contender! Does anyone love setting powders though? That's a lot of full sizes.

Still waiting to see Harrods and HN is my front runner mostly as I've tried several JL items although the Elemis essence is one I haven't tried yet.

greywinds · 20/09/2022 09:13

@Roundaboot that salt scrub leaves fine bake looking nice, I've had it, should be easy to regift to a friend or family person?

Doubleraspberry · 20/09/2022 09:30

The salt scrub is my one product that I would be unlikely to use, although that is because the scalp scrub that has been in M&S before was so awful for me. I like Christophe Robin projects in general though and have bought one hair mask full sized after a calendar tester before.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 20/09/2022 09:32

JL has not disappointed, it's going to be between Liberty and JL for me (and possibly Harrods?). Need to have a better look at the make up items in JL and update my spreadsheet then hopefully my decision will be clearer.

Adventadventures · 20/09/2022 09:47

Finally JL puts us out of our misery! It looks good I am a bit disappointed we have the neom candle again (they could have done a different scent) and AA bath/shower gel but for the price point it looks a good choice. Very tempted

greywinds · 20/09/2022 10:03

I hate scalp scrubs in general too, cannot understand the appeal but the CR salt products are good.

BakeOffRewatch · 20/09/2022 10:21

JL has a full size Votary serum! And a “full size” Augustinus Bader Rich Cream, can’t believe 15ml counts as full size.

Oliver Bonas has a 12 day mask advent calendar in the sale www.oliverbonas.com/beauty/12-days-of-christmasks-advent-calendar-336145

martinlily · 20/09/2022 10:28

thanks for sharing this information, it is very useful.

MidnightMeltdown · 20/09/2022 11:00

I'm a bit on the fence about John Lewis

There are some great items like the dermatologica and the Votary

But then there are a few duds for me - Olaplex, eyeshadow palette, pink lipstick, AB cream, Laura Mercier powder, sleep spray

And a few items that I already have or have had before - exfoliKate, ceo cream, candle, Murad Cleanser, aromatherapy associates, Christophe Robin scrub (although I do like this)

Will have to work out prices to see whether it's worth it for me, but think I'm still preferring Liberty and CB at the moment

MidnightMeltdown · 20/09/2022 11:08

In general though, the sizes look good so I think that it's definitely good value

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 20/09/2022 12:43

Ooooh Niche Beauty site looks lovely. There's a nice GWP there now!

Daft question ... does anyone know what taxes and duty will be like for shipping to uk?

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2022 13:08

This year there seems to be a dearth of cleansers in the ACs - with the exception of the Murad exfoliating one which pops up in so many of them. The AC pixies must have decided that we all have very dry damaged hair and scaly skin by the number of hair treatments and facial exfoliating products.

I would say they are unlikely to ship the advent calendar to you in the UK. They're not shipping to Ireland, presumably because of the perfumes. I can't imagine the rules are any different to the UK. Maybe have a look at a perfume and that will tell you if they ship them to the UK.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 20/09/2022 13:19

Thank you

IconicKitty · 20/09/2022 13:48

John Lewis looks good, however I need to take a closer look to see if it's really worth the money for me, or if there are too many products I won't use.

PomRuns · 20/09/2022 13:56

@Luvacuppatea2 @clary I feel like I am in such good (and enabling!) company. I will probably get both and maybe M & S as well but I just joined the Liberty beauty drop and purchased the M&S beauty box so feel I might be a bit of control... I am going to go spreadsheet crazy while my DC are at Cubs/Scouts later !

Thank you @properdoughnut
