Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

House of Fraser? Weren’t they the ones who released a beauty advent calendar a few years back that included such random stuff as a plastic funnel? Anyway, the opening thread evolved into one of the most brilliant, hilarious things I’ve ever read on mumsnet 🤣. Didn’t it involve a cat as well? I still chuckle when I think of it……..

Talisin · 30/08/2022 08:30

Yes, cat paw as a measuring device and then there was something with what looked suspiciously like spiders legs in it…

TheDuchessOfMN · 30/08/2022 08:57

I quite like the House of Fraser one, but they cancelled my order last year. I wear Mac Mehr all the time.

Luvacuppatea2 · 30/08/2022 08:59

Yes, that’s it @Talisin 🤣. I think the cat might have been called Kenneth!

CountryCob · 30/08/2022 09:14

Quite like Liberty, wavering on YSL as the mirror would annoy me, a nice brush and eyeshadow pallet would have swung it….

Someaddedsugar · 30/08/2022 09:56

I'm sure someone was asking about Liberty's gift with purchase - this has just come through today...

To me House of Fraser look very expensive for what you get

TheDuchessOfMN · 30/08/2022 17:13

I tried to order the HoF one but it won’t deliver to Ireland. So disappointing because it’s on the .ie website and in €.

That's exceptionally mean of them, getting your hopes up like that.

Ah you've made me laugh reminding me of that one, especially the cats paw! Here you go: www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/3102388-Sharing-the-Shitness-HOF-Advent-Calendar-SPOILERS?page=1

wheresmyshoe · 30/08/2022 21:38

Thank you @TheWeeDonkeyFella that truly deserves its classic status and has given me a much needed laugh tonight.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 30/08/2022 22:19

Cheered me up tonight too @wheresmyshoe The contents of that calendar were hilariously shocking!

Luvacuppatea2 · 31/08/2022 08:32

Thanks for the link @TheWeeDonkeyFella . I was up at 5.00am this morning as Madam Smartypants cat spent last night out on the tiles and then came home demanding breakfast (by yowling loudly in the back garden and risking the wrath of the whole neighbourhood) at that ridiculous hour! So to cheer myself up I re-read the whole thread. It’s a brilliant read, a true classic - I’m still chuckling to myself now 😊

doublecleansed · 31/08/2022 15:03

I can't believe this Kate Somerville calendar only has 12 draws, contains four minis (including a 3ml!)....and still costs £375.

chillipenguin · 31/08/2022 15:23

I hate a 12 drawer. Are they meant to be a gift for the 12 days of Christmas? All the excitement and build up has gone by then.

Housewife2010 · 31/08/2022 15:24

£310 of the value is taken up by 4 treatments/demonstrations though, so if you're not near a HN or don't fancy them they're a bit wasted.
Escentric Molecules seems to be almost compulsory in this year's ACs.

Zeeza · 31/08/2022 15:43

Oh goodness. The harvey nichols one is interesting. It's a good idea. The sizes of things are a little to small tho. Except for the things I wouldnt want.

I wonder how long we have to reclaim the vouchers.

That and Charlotte Tilbury something or other. I like the really ree breakdowns.

Giftwithpurchase · 31/08/2022 16:03

HN very interesting - bit different at least. Love the treatment ideas but agree would have to know voucher expiry dates etc.

AprilLady · 31/08/2022 16:30

The Harvey Nichols one does look interesting. Lots of perfumes and a good mix of make-up, skincare and treatments. Will definitely be adding it to the spreadsheet!

greywinds · 31/08/2022 16:38

Can you hear the tinkling sound of advent calendar resolutions breaking?
The HN looks amazing!!

PomRuns · 31/08/2022 16:59

Hmmm quite interested in HN …

Luvacuppatea2 · 31/08/2022 17:05

Ummmm, HN very, very interesting and different from the (this year) run-of-the-mill rest……….

MidnightMeltdown · 31/08/2022 17:08

Oh I didn't know that HN did one. At first glance it looks like lots of tiny sizes, but will inspect in more detail lately.

I'm not impressed by all the 5ml perfumes. I go to France quite often and these are given free there. I find it a bit of a cheek when we are expected to pay for samples.

Doubleraspberry · 31/08/2022 17:11

I never ever use vouchers on time, so that wouldn't work for me.
