Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

Isn't now the time for the gifts with purchase? Can't find any info online but I'm sure Liberty has always been in the first week of September. Might be a nice alternative for anyone disappointed with the calendar.

Housewife2010 · 27/08/2022 16:15

Liberty had a big GWP at the end of July so I'm not sure if they will do their traditional September one too. Last year's was in the last week of August.

Space nk have 20% off right now. I'm never sure whether it's worth waiting for a GWP and paying full price, or simply buying when there's a 20% offer.

I reckon that everything is marked up by 20% to account for these offers, so I feel like I'm paying for the GWPs when I get them

Housewife2010 · 27/08/2022 17:21

Cult Beauty and Escentual both have 20% off too.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/08/2022 17:27

That's something else I do when looking at advent calendars. I take 20% off the stated 'value' when deciding whether it's worth it, as you can get 20% off most products somewhere at some point!

MidnightMeltdown · 27/08/2022 17:30

Hmmm... I spy a few of the usual suspects - olaplex, exfoliKate, bamford sleep spray, bum bum cream....

I like the look of the boy smells candle though (if full size)

AprilLady · 27/08/2022 18:30

It will be interesting to see what the LIB/Sunday Times calendar is priced at.

I’ve now updated and colour coded the spreadsheet. It confirms Selfridges is a no for me.

I think I just went to spreadsheet heaven 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

SunStruck · 29/08/2022 07:03

Sorry if I've missed this as the thread is so long, but for when can you order the calendars for (F&M, Liberty, space NK, more of the beauty calendars rather than makeup)? I live abroad but will be back in the UK for 2 weeks in September/October so just checking if I can manage to get one for then?

Maranello · 29/08/2022 07:18

Hi @SunStruck I use this site to keep up with what's been announced and when they're available to order: beautyadventcalendar.net/

SunStruck · 29/08/2022 07:35

@Maranello thanks so much!! 😘

Anyone else like the look of YSL this year? Not sure about value for money but I love a lipstick and it is glamorous. Lots of samey stuff in the mixed brands am considered a single brand one…

Zeeza · 29/08/2022 14:15

I dont like any brand well enough to do get their advent calendar. But it does look a very nice calendar and beautifully presented. If you like YSL I'd go for it, especially of there are things you haven't tried in it.

MidnightMeltdown · 29/08/2022 15:01

I always find it a bit odd when these things are full of lipsticks. Are there people who suit such a wide variety of colours? I would have thought that most people have a small range of preferred shades. Having all these different shades would be a total waste on me.

I can wear any colour that isn’t brown toned - those make me look like a corpse. So most reds, pinks, plums and corals. Last count I had over 70 lipsticks so I probably don’t need any more!

MidnightMeltdown · 29/08/2022 18:09

Ah see I'm quite particular about lipsticks. I have olive/Mediterranean skin and I don't like nudes because they are usually too pink or too similar to my natural lip colour.

Don't like browns, purples, corals or pinks. I can wear red, but not all shades of red. I mainly stick to berry colours as I think that they suit me best. Perhaps paler skin tones can get away with more shades.

CountryCob · 29/08/2022 19:25

I love lipstick except more brown or really dark tones which wash me out, bright and bold is fine, fuscia, most corals and reds. It is a bit expensive but I might do it. Also like the look of Lancôme. The same products keep on coming up for me too often elsewhere. Early days though…..

CountryCob · 29/08/2022 19:27

I have a boy smells candle from last year space NK in bathroom not even lit once! I blame work/ animals and children. It’s waiting for an undisturbed bath time….

clary · 29/08/2022 19:56

Well ladies I am half way through my spreadsheet (a lot of work involved) and so far Liberty is a slightly surprising front runner. I think it has a lot of items I would like to try (not had it before) and not too much "random crap".

Cult Beauty is also looking good; Selfridges a total no-no as it has a CT palette I got last year (I mean, I love it, but I don't need two) and a very small Paula's Choice that is three times the size in Space NK.

MidnightMeltdown · 29/08/2022 20:12

I'm with you @clary I don't have a spreadsheet but I think that Liberty and Cult Beauty are the best.

Will see which I can get my hands on before they sell out!

Zeeza · 30/08/2022 07:59

House of fraser calendar available to pre order.

It has oskia, which I love. But otherwise, no thanks. Better price than others though.
