Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

Sorry, I didnt want to either. I'm still so bitter about it though.

But it gives me so many new brands to try, which is fun.

chillipenguin · 24/08/2022 19:40

Is the charlotte tilbury one ever worth it or is it usually the stuff they can't shift? I like the magic cream.

PomRuns · 24/08/2022 19:48

@Zeeza Im so enraged by it. Also stopped buying benefit products.

lots of lovely other things we can buy instead 😊

Id love to know John Lewis contents now I’ve talked myself out of Liberty and probably Fortnums.

I think I'd want to use the products by the end of 2023 though.

I'm still off bodyshop after they told jk Rowling to shut up and have a bath after she wrote that heartbreaking story about domestic abuse.

Yes, it was appalling. To be treated like that when all she is doing is standing up for vulnerable women is dreadful.

Zeeza · 24/08/2022 20:13

It's ridiculous how impatient I am to see the reveal of the big multi brands.

Come to momma.

christmas2022 · 24/08/2022 20:27

I don't want to spend much more than £40 so think it will be m and s.

Anyone know of any others around this price point or a bit more than can compete with the m and s one?

Doubleraspberry · 24/08/2022 20:30

BrokeAsABone · 24/08/2022 19:21

I quite like the Body Shop calendars but can't buy because of their horrific trolling of JKR after she wrote her essay outlining the abuse she had faced. That was unforgivable.

A ou ole of years ago I got the Sniph calendar and LOVED it....I hope they do another one this year.

I almost got the Sniph one that year but already had CB and have regretted it since! They did one last year but not in the UK. I’d also be thrilled with one if they did it again.

The Boots ones are normally half price at some point so the Macmillan £80 one and the Soap and Glory both drop.

Zeeza · 24/08/2022 20:53

The m and s one is pretty good. There is a cute French one on amazon for 60. Will try to find it. That would be good as most products would be new.

PomRuns · 24/08/2022 20:57

Rituals value is not as good this year.

Zeeza · 24/08/2022 21:01

I thought this was very cute. 56, so over your budget. But interesting and fun.

M and s have some good products

Dove and nivea will have ones that will be useful if you like their products for about 30.

You will probably be able to get a code or quidco to bring the Holland and Barrett one down to 45 or 50.

Experiment627 · 25/08/2022 06:02

Great tips @Zeeza

SwishFish · 25/08/2022 11:52

I had no idea about JKR either. That’s despicable.

Having said that, if I avoided every entity with staff whose views I disagree with I would be left with very little options (and homeless and jobless). I’m already limited by cruelty free (companies that don’t sell in china etc).

I’ve gone for the BS calendar from brand alley. I have fomo after ending up with zero last year so at least now I have something.

Blossomtoes · 25/08/2022 13:10

The Amazon one looks like really good value, there are some great brands in there.

Maranello · 25/08/2022 13:49

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/porter/article-514d7ee332aab46f/beauty/beauty-memo/net-a-porter-beauty-advent-calendar

Really not impressed with the Net-a-porter offering: pillow spray, roller ball and a gua sha! Plus their web page unveiling it shows a display of 25 full-size products then underneath says "Product sizes in the NET-A-PORTER ‘25 Days Of Beauty’ Advent calendar may vary to those displayed above" - which feels a bit misleading. They know what the actual sizes will be, after all!

polmnlj · 25/08/2022 14:37

I ordered the ultimate body shop calendar from brandalley. The bits I don't use I will give to sil as a hamper.

Zeeza · 25/08/2022 14:37

Its half right. I think the gua sha, spray, rollerball and eyelash curlers are terrible. Why do that. But some useful makeup and some pretty nice skin care.

Coniferhedge · 25/08/2022 14:57

The French calendar does look nice but don’t forget - it says in the Amazon small print that it could be subject to Duties and Customs, so that might add to the price.

Zeeza · 25/08/2022 14:58

Been thinking about the nap. No way are they going to give us nice things like full size creams, tata cleanser or candles.

Everything but the gua Shah will be a tiny size.

So annoying. It's going to be such a letndown when the contents are really released.

Zeeza · 25/08/2022 15:03

beautyadventcalendar.net/selfridges-beauty-advent-calendar-2022/

Hard no from me from selfridges. A couple of things are useful. Too much i have. Too much is gimmicky crap.

chillipenguin · 25/08/2022 15:24

They are all just starting to look the same to me now. Same brands etc.

wheresmyshoe · 25/08/2022 15:32

I had NaP last year and enjoyed it. Agree with the other posters that no way will we get those sizes :(
I'm disappointed that they have This Works in such an expensive high end calendar. I love a pillow spray but would expect something more luxurious.
It is looking increasingly unlikely that I will be buying one of the top name calendars this year as the value for money isn't stacking up. Fingers crossed for Harrods.

CountryCob · 25/08/2022 15:37

Waiting list for No7 at Boots has just opened, no contents reveal but it’s usually very good value

gatehouseoffleet · 25/08/2022 16:03

I didn't bother last year and will probably not bother this year either as I recently bought a Beauty Bible Latest in Beauty selection box which will keep me in products for a bit.

But in the past I have had Elemis, Lumene, Arran Aromatics and one other I've forgotten.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/08/2022 16:30

I had Decleor last year which had some lovely products in it (although I did miss the excitement of different brands).

I got it on Look Fantastic and due to the cost (£99 I think, had a £20 or so discount) it qualified for x 2 excellent Decleor GWPs! A bit samey but I think combined value for the two was about £60. May be worth keeping an eye as a similar offer would mean a couple of nice beauty gifts to pass on later?
