Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 23/07/2022 12:26

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

Agreed that space NK looks quite good so far, although it doesn't mention sizes, and I already have 4 of the items.

MidnightMeltdown · 15/08/2022 21:09

If fact one of the products is something I use regularly, so if that's a full size then I might be tempted to get space nk.

Doubleraspberry · 15/08/2022 21:02

I think quite a lot of people do. I used to. I started checking the contents before buying a couple of years in, especially when I realise I then forget!

Ah ok. I'd be too afraid that my advent calendar might contain a jade roller or a gua sha stone to buy blind.

I might take a risk on M&S though

prinnycessa · 15/08/2022 23:30

DH has bought mine! He got it last week as he said it was going to sell out. So excited to see what it is 🤭

TheChosenTwo · 15/08/2022 23:37

I’m quite tempted by CB this year although I’m saying that before I’ve looked at some of the others.
i usually get either liberty, space or cb but last year didn’t get any. Still had a lot to use up.
i made calendars for my girls with a lot of GWP freebies and bought a few other wished for beauty items for their calendars and they loved it.
the trouble for beauty junkies is that mostly you’ve tried a lot of this stuff already and the teeny tiny sizes of plastic tubes and and excess packaging for what you get is just a bit depressing.
I’ve not bought anything all year that I haven’t actually needed, I think my purchases have been pretty much only spf when it’s running low and repeat dermatica subscriptions and there are quite a few ‘new to me’ things in CB this year which i’m interested in.

Housewife2010 · 16/08/2022 00:14

I've signed up to the Space NK Advent Calendar waitlist www.spacenk.com/uk/spacenk-advent-calendar.html?referral=xm52ae0&refSource=copy
-for full transparency, this contains my referral code.
I'm really keen to see what Space NK and John Lewis contain. Last year I had CB, John Lewis and M&S. I've loved the last two CB, but I'm not sure this year. I like an AC to have a few really exciting things and the CB isn't as exciting for me this year. It has less make up than previous years and a lot of hair masks.

I would say that it's fine to discuss the contents. Does anyone buy an advent calendar without checking the contents first?

I absolutely check if I'm going to spend over £200 on something, check and analyse and compare value.
I've always enjoyed the discussion of contents on the advent calendar threads.

Yes, I agree. The discussion on here is always very enjoyable. It wouldn't be much of a thread if it just consisted of "I like x calendar" and "I like y calendar". I think if people don't want to know the contents, they are unlikely to be on here.

I have the memory of a goldfish so have it all forgotten really quickly. Maybe we should ask for a spoiler warning to be put in the thread title? I think that's what was done in previous years.

Hello Grin I am looking forward to Christmas this year for this very reason and am scouting out the different calendars. Which ones are your favourites Grin? I can spend up to £300

If you haven't had them before, I don't think you can go far wrong with either Fortnum & Mason or Liberty Smile

Morning beauty addicts! <reapplies lippy>

Just to let you know that we've added in a spoiler alert to the thread title. That way, folk are pre-warned about the contents of the beauty boxes being discussed on here.

Thanks all. 💋

Great. Thanks.

wheresmyshoe · 16/08/2022 10:46

Now we have our spoiler alert (thank you @LivMumsnet)
I am very pleased to see a Diptyque candle in Space NK!

KimmySchmitt · 16/08/2022 10:55

How accurate do we think that previous link to Space NK spoilers is? I only ask because I just read this article on the Space NK website and it suggests these are possible contents, not definites. I'd assume there's some inside knowledge but Really Ree and Beautyadventcalendar.net haven't shared the contents yet and they're generally the most accurate sources.

TheDuchessOfMN · 16/08/2022 10:57

Great.

I was going to say that that Sol de Janeiro bum bum cream seems to be in every second Advent Calendar or GWP. I don’t like the scent of it at all, but it would be great if you did.

Housewife2010 · 16/08/2022 12:02

This year is the first time that CB has a perfume. Previously they've avoided all perfumes, aerosols and nail varnishes because they can't post them abroad. This year they have a perfume oil so maybe that is a way round it?
My favourite part of Liberty ACs are their niche scents, but they have an overseas version with all the banned to post items replaced.
I hope that Liberty's is good this year. I've had it for 3 years but haven't had it since 2018 as it lost its excitement for me. I found last year's very disappointing. It had very little makeup and I already had the Le Labo. I have lots saved in my Beauty Drop account so a fabulous Liberty AC with a couple of fabulous scents and some lovely make up would be perfect.

doublecleansed · 16/08/2022 12:55

If that Space NK preview is accurate then it looks good so far, to me - I like Rare Beauty and its nice to have exclusive brands that other calendars don't (Tatcha too). But yeah, the Charlotte Tilbury product...i can't see how that works seeing as there are so many shades available. They'll just pick one in the middle and please no-one (or a small group of people). Any product where you need a close shade match to wear it is a fool's game in an advent/GWP.

But - like @Housewife2010 - I've got lots of Liberty Beauty Drop credit saved so am hoping the Liberty one is decent

clary · 16/08/2022 12:56

You talk about the contents for sure. I never remember anyway.

Welcond @WhatTheFuckingHell I lived CB, F&M and JLP last year.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 16/08/2022 13:27

@WhatTheFuckingHell Cult Beauty was brilliant last year so that is one to look out for.

Last year was the first year I got one of the more expensive ones and decided on CB, I would like to try Liberty so hoping the contents are good this year.

wheresmyshoe · 16/08/2022 13:49

I wrongly thought the Tilbury product was a primer of something, a foundation is a hopeless non-inclusive inclusion in an advent calendar. I hope they rethink that one!

doublecleansed · 16/08/2022 13:56

@wheresmyshoe it's a kind of primer/glowy thing...but it comes in a lot of shades. you could probably get away with it being a bit lighter or darker more than say, a foundation or concealer, but its still wouldn't be great. I'd guess they'd stick the 'medium' shade in there, which would be too dark for me, too light for others. But then for those who wear that shade and use the product, there'll probably be loads of them on ebay to snap up come January!

Anyway, it might not end up being in the calendar at all... that page on the Space NK website is weird. "Here's some products we hope might show up in the calendar"...surely that means they will, but a weird way to frame it.

It probably means it will be if their supply chains work. Some of them had issues last year.

AprilLady · 16/08/2022 22:26

So I was not going to buy F&M this year, and I was going to carefully choose only one luxury calendar once all the details were available. And then I saw the picture and contents for the F&M calendar and caved yet again. Unlike others, I do really like and use bath oils, and really rate the Aromatherapy ones. The Cult51 cream, perfumes and candle we’re also draws for me - I’m happy with repeats if they are products I really enjoy.

And the calendar itself arrived today! Seems a bit crazy to already have it in mid-August - in previous years it’s come in late October. The box is lovely as usual - but I’ll will now resolutely put it away for December.
