WWW's six week ten year younger boot camp, WEEK TWO, 2008

WideWebWitch · 13/01/2008 21:16

This is week 2 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Marina - so so sorry to hear about your uncle. Lots of love to you all. xxxxx

Prufrock · 15/01/2008 09:31

Oh Marina I'm so sorry. How is your aunt?

marina · 15/01/2008 09:39

All the codgers are bearing up very well. Aunty is apparently coping magnificently.
It is the nieces and daughters who are in bits prufrock He was a supremely undemonstrative man, I think and hope he knew that we all cared for him deeply
My mother surpassed herself by saying airily that the news would be water off a ducks' back to ds and dd and as she is picking them up from school today I have had to get quite nastily firm with her about not telling them herself.
What planet is she from?

tortoiseSHELL · 15/01/2008 09:57

about your mother. Parents I think must be given training in how to make these remarks.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/01/2008 10:26

pru - I wouldn't have expected your steam room to be anything less. Tis fab btw! My friends is the cliched 70s wooden panelled, plastic window in the door, swirly tiled floor... it probably appears in lots of old porn films (I'm an expert on 'locations' having once sold a house belonging to Mary Millington)!

Much sympathy Marina. Ignore your mother, people always say the wrong thing when there's been a death in the family.

For dinner I had half a canteloupe melon and an apple. I really must eat some protein today. And probably lots of carbs too.

I have my scan this afternoon so may find out what we're having...

marina · 15/01/2008 10:29

Good luck with your scan duchess and I love the sound of your friends' swinging steam room - very Boogie Nights
Thanks all for kind words.

Marina - so sorry to hear about your Uncle. I hope your mother has the sense and grace to let you speak to your own children about this.

Duchess - these people with the steam room - I trust there is pampas grass in the garden? Good luck with the scan.

Right, off to bed for me now. I've spent all evening being studious and I'm tired. Shame practically all my evenings are likely to be like this for the next, ooh, seven years.

night night all!

winnie · 15/01/2008 11:10

I've just realised I posted this on last weeks thread

Try again:

Lol at Marina and full body work out
Hope things improve for your Uncle soon and yes it does sound as if your mother lives on another planet. Good for you that you can be firm.

Duchess, good luck with the scan

Batters, re coat but you deserve it: wallow

WWW, thanks for disclosing your toilet exploits! Revolting but obviously necessary.

Prufrock, well done on the weight loss.

I should have weighed this morning but didn't as I've not been great this weekend have eaten lots of crisps with ds in front of a movie and last night a dear friend arrived on my doorstep with a chilled bottle of wine and it would have been rude to refuse
Not the best weekend but not the worst either and both my children are making me very happy at the moment Yaaaaaaaayyyyyy

winnie · 15/01/2008 11:12

MARINA, I am so sorry, I missed that your Uncle had died... how crap of me to miss the most important bit when skim reading.
I am sorry. I hope you are all ok. Thinking of you xx

Early report from me as I have pre-sch committee tonight. Scan was fine - everything present & correct, nice bendy spine etc. And it's a boy - so will have 2 of each.

I've had porridge, scrambled egg on toast, shortbread biscuit, apple, raw carrot, Monster Munch and there are pizza's in the oven for early dinner. I don't really want to eat pizza but it has been raining down the chimney into the aga all day so now it's not hot enough to cook anything else. Grrrr!

Exercise - walking dog in the rain. Mucking out and feeding ponies in the rain. Re-attaching electric fencing in the rain. Etc. And there are days of this weather to come.

But scan was good. So I'm happy! Oh yes, lots of moisturiser and handcream.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/01/2008 17:28

Duchess, congrats! A boy for me too, apparently. Two of each sounds lovely

Marina, I'm very sorry to hear about your uncle. Take care of yourself - hope you're all ok and things aren't further complicated by your mother talking to your dcs - sounds tricky.

batters - when you talked about your cross trainer I had this very fleeting vision of a lycra-clad woman with dumbbells in her hand and fury in her eyes ...

And www, read your story thinking hmmn, bit grim having to put your hand down the loo, but am I a complete slattern for only washing in a desultory fashion when I've fished stuff out of the loo before (generally tweezers, for some reason)? Then went back and realised that the previous incumbent had left a souvenir. And was horrified. So I add my eeeeeeewwwwwwwwww to everyone else's!

Rubbish day here. Was sick quite a bit in the night - something I do occasionally. Would normally go into work, but thought bugger it, I'm up the duff. So have been at home, haven't changed out of pjs, and have graduated from tentative dry toast this morning to most of a big bar of green and black's this afternoon. So if I'm sick again tonight I'll have not one to blame but myself. Tush.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/01/2008 17:38

no one. double tush.

PollyDolly · 15/01/2008 19:41

Very sorry to hear your sad news Marina. Hope your DD and DS are OK as well as the rest of your family.

Very excited about the 2 new boys on the thread . A friend was over this afternoon with just one week to go - she's having a boy too. Forgotten how exciting a new baby is. When are you due L and S? Duchess, you're may time aren't you?

Got to go - DD1 being a bit challenging. Back later.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/01/2008 20:18

I'm March 20, Polly - just under 10 weeks to go. Really feels close now. Very exciting! Aiming for healthy living up to birth as I'm banking on it all going out of the window afterwards. Today's G&B-fest notwithstanding

tortoiseSHELL · 15/01/2008 20:37

Very exciting about your boy DofNorks! I'm so glad the scan was fine, and feeling very jealous, not only of your lovely idyllic country living, but also your new little one!

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2008 21:09

Prufrock, that steam room looks v lovely bloody hell at 100 sit ups, doubt I could manage 1, well done

unknownrelbang, I was asleep by 10.30 I reckon! Hurrah! Well done for getting to grips with this again

Oh Marina, I;m sorry to hear about your uncle, how sad. I'm so glad you did see them recently though and good luck on ignoring your mother.

Bamamama, ha ha that vile loo tale inspired you to clean your bathroom, ha ha, so it's loo karma? Riiiiiight well done on fruit and sald

oh just read Sobernow, I see, not karma but chaos theory, oh yes, I seeeeee

Bama, pampas grass, lol, gosh I'd forgotten all about pampas grass, many of us on this thread will remember it being very erm popular!

Winnie, how LOVELY to hear that both children are making you happy, I'm so pleased to hear it, that's lovely news!

DofN, aah at good scan, and a boy, fantastic. At least we have some hatches to look forward to on this thread along with the sad dispatches...

L&S, I wouldn't have minded as much with a clean loo. Or my own loo. Or even my own poo, to an extent (sorry!) - but it ws grotty work loo. Sorry you were sick but hope you're recovered and had a relaxing day. You're having a boy too, lovely, what do you already have?

Anyway, well done everyone! And a hug to Marina.

Was starving today for some reason. Pos a bit of mild stress...

2 pieces toast with butter and Marmite in the car on way to station at 6.30am
FAMISHED at work at 9.30am so bought 2 pieces white bread toast with Marmite and butter, must look up cals in those butter portions, oops, but I wanted something comforting and I was really hungry, getting up that early is a pita for that, plus it was raining
houmous sandwich, 350 cals
apple
banana
4 Quality St oops
Kitkat, 250 cal
M&S lamb
M&S mash but not much of it
M&S broccoli, mange tout and carrots.
oops M&S food getting to be a habit but it is so lovely and easy
walk on commute, not much
no sunscreen
plenty of water
and showered when I came in and used body lotion and Flexitol (btw DofN, how did your Flexitol experiment go?)
No booze, second night running (after transgression on Sunday night)
went to bed early last night, felt sprightly today. Fk me, I;'m middle aged if I'm using words like that
Feel v happy, no idea why but I'm going with it

Feel ok about commute even as there's an end to it being so hard plus I have discovered that a riveting book really really matters. I love it when I tihnk "oh no, Bond St ALREADY?" because I'm so engrossed. Spent £70 in Borders on SUnday but worth it I'm sure. Currently reading trashy novel as I can't focus on anytihgng else during commute (won't even tell you what it's called but it has a lurid pink cover, tells you all you need to kmwo!) but I bought Affluenza Marina, will read soon

Good evening everyone.

Marina, so sorry to hear about your uncle.

lol @ the butterfly theory. Going back slightly, I'm another one who can't cope with the heat. Often get a lovely heat rash.

Glad to hear the children are making you happy Winnie.

Glad to hear the scan went well Duchess. Boys, bless, luv em (I know, I'm biased). In RL looking forward to friends/colleagues having a boy and a girl, and one friend having twins. All due around May I think.

Anyhoo...

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy
  • 60 very gentle minutes on the exercise bike
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy
  • Go to bed early - in bed for 10.30, asleep by 11ish I reckon, major achievement for me, lol.
  • Eat healthily, good day today, apart from a mince pie after tea, but it wasn't that nice tbh, so won't bother with another one.
  • Be happy, things are ok.
unknownrebelbang · 15/01/2008 21:46

Oh, and I keep forgetting...

Those celebrating 10 years this year, well done - but I can double it: we've been married 20 years in September!!

kidsrus · 15/01/2008 22:07

oo oo please can i join. im trying to lose weight but feeling down and fed up at the mo.

i shall have to stop m/n so late too as its the only thing that keeps me awake in the evening (if i watch the box i fall asleep).
water is an issue with me but i will try harder.
i try to walk to school every day but not always possible due to commitments.
just applied handcream now off to find the foot lotion to get dh to rub it in wonder if he will cream the whole body too (relax, relax, relax, snore) Not tonight darling im asleep
ps pmsl at www in the loo its the sort of thing that could only happen to me

Prufrock · 15/01/2008 22:49

batters and marina - you should move out to the country - we have space here.

100 is actually quite easy www - 20 of 5 different types so no one set of abs gets too sore. I do have wonderfully firm abs now - I just still have to poke througha d inch or so of flabby belly to feel them.

on books, did you ever hear ks and I going on about the Quincunx? It's a very reverent pastiche of Wilkie Collins but absolutely and totally gripping - the first night of my holiday 7 years ago I stayed up until 4 am reading it.

Duch - so are we all allowed to suggest boys names now? You should allow the bootcampers to vote and choose

winnie- lovely to see that both children are making you happy.

Prufrock · 15/01/2008 22:53

Exercise: 20 minutes cardio (though I couldn't do arm weights whilst stepping as have cricked my neck), 100 sit ups

Food: 2 cups coffee, 2l water. Granola and skimmed milk. 8 pieces sushi, 3 bites cheese, steak, courgettes, pak choi, 1 cup detox tea.

Happiness level - high. Just returned from bridge club where al the old folk treat me and my friend wonderfully, and I made a 5 club contract and a very very tricky 2NT, so I am full of satisfaction.
