WWW's six week ten year younger boot camp, WEEK TWO, 2008

WideWebWitch · 13/01/2008 21:16

This is week 2 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Today
2 pieces toast at 6.30am butter, Marmite
and then, starving again at 9.30 so 2 pieces of toast at work. I searched and searched on the interet last night to find cals in a pre packed butter portion (googled butter pre pack, catering size, then discovered they're called portion controlled) and came to conclusion each is 10g so = 74 cals so my 2 pieces of toast at work are 74 cal x 2 = 130 + 2 bread @ 120, so 370 cals. Twice mind you if you include toast at home, so too much. And since up to now I've been having 100g granola at 500cal no wonder I'm hungry at 9am after 2 pieces in the car. I think I may start to compromise with a banana in the car and toast at work, I am enjoying it. And that would work.

radish salad sandwich, 340 cals
apple
banana
4 Quality St, oops
2 sausages
pack of M&S prawns with chilli, 140 cals
little bit mash, M&S
broccoli, beans
water
no booze for 3rd night running
and slept well last night, from 10.30 to 5.45am

And I feel great and also, my skin is good and I look better I think. Dh said "you look lovely" and we had a brief "oh fk, not up duff am I?" conversation but highly unlikely since no risks taken so there you go, maybe it's just that bootcamp is working.

I have M&S chocolate rice crispie cakes for in front of Torchwood...

Actually 150, as 74 x 2 = 148 which is NOT same as 130!

Marina, and anyone else who's tired, old thread here

OP posts:
marina · 16/01/2008 21:17

Thanks www, that made for interesting reading. Bossykate she speak Big Truth methinks but I am sure proper exercise and not staying up so late would help too.
Had a lentil salad for lunch today (M&S again, it's that one with roasted aubergine and wild rice and a little pot is only 340 calories), more fruit, another widdly chocolate mousse, but no walk due to colleague experiencing a red mist moment and needing substantial amounts of quiet soothing talk this just after I had blagged my way through an IIP assessment interview saying what a balanced and proactive team etc I had...come back to find one balanced and proactive person pretty much doing a King Kong on top of the Empire State Building twas not pretty and I didn't even witness the Actual Incident.
I am now going to inspect my Dancersize DVD. I may be some time.
Welcome to bootcamp kidsrus! Um, some of us are more results-oriented than others

unknownrebelbang · 16/01/2008 21:50

Welcome kidsrus.

One can never have too many books www, although I'm shockingly shallow in my choice of literature.

I saw cook yourself thin last night, winnie (I've never seen it before either). Really enjoyed it, and although I don't eat much veg, I was impressed by what I saw. Colleague apparently has a book which she is bringing in next week.

What's up tortoiseshell?

L&S - so excited for you - you have sooo much to look forward to, hehehe. Lovely collection of names there, lol.

I don't watch Cap'n Jack, but I dooo like Jon Barrowman, always comes across really well.

Hope you survive the dvd Marina.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy Although VERY TEMPTED tonight
  • Almost 60 very gentle minutes on the exercise bike
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy
  • Go to bed early - stupid o'clock last night, safe in the knowledge that DH was doing the schoolrun this morning.
  • Eat healthily, good day today, especially for a Wednesday.
  • Be happy, harrumph. DS2 has been an absolute pita over his homework, but worse, DS1 has tripped over and broken DS2's cello.

On a positive note, DH has been stuck in court for two days (over the off-duty incident just before Christmas) and was questioned in a fairly derogatory manner by the defence solicitors, but 2/3 were found guilty and the Magistrate made a point of commenting positively on DH's evidence - quite rare so it made his wasted day in court yesterday almost worthwhile.

No one interested in me celebrating 20 years marriage this year?? I thought it was worth celebrating!! Apologies if I sounded a bit smug...

WideWebWitch · 16/01/2008 21:51

So sorry, I forgot to say hello to kidsrus, apologies, welcome!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/01/2008 21:53

Marina, I buy that lentil rice salad sometimes, it's nice.oh dear re King Kong moment! unknownrelbang, 20 years is very impressive, congratulations Bossykate does indeed talk sense.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 16/01/2008 21:58

Sorry, moment of self-indulgence there.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/01/2008 22:14

Congrats on 20 years unknown - that's spectacular. We'll be a measley 8 years in July. This thread is so busy I keep losing people in the crowd!

I still didn't want dinner so had a lump of cheddar and several Ryvita with butter. I then snacked on an apple, an orange and 2 raw carrots. Perhaps I'm coming down with something? Not like me to be off my food. Anyway, off the bed now as I'm v. tired.

unknownrebelbang · 16/01/2008 22:18

Hope you're brighter in the morning Duchess.

Just succumbed to a can of Magners.

bamamama · 16/01/2008 22:55

L&S - how wonderful that you've got MN before lo arrives. I wish I'd had that [wistful emotion]. Marina is right, boys rock (my ds is now 19 months). There's something about the mother/son relationship - although that probably accounts for most of the MIL threads around here.... Can we have a list of the names of the babies at your NCT class (when they arrive of course) that too should make interesting reading - Jocasta, Ponceytina etc.

just had to break off from typing as I realised that that perculiar smell meant that wonderful, naked ds had just crapped on the carpet and appeared to be playing marbles. Not the highlight of my MNing-but-should-be-doing-something-else existence. Oh yes, L&S we're a model of modern motherhood round here

Surely actively thinking about exercise burns calories. I'd be suprised if it didn't.

t/shell - hope everything is ok.

And everyone - read Atonement it's great and not too literary. I'd say its a corking read but that would make me sound like I work for the Daily Mail.

Right, better go and make sure I've rounded up all the poo....

Sorry for screaming yesterday, can't really go into it on here. Oh well. Sounds like we all have difficult work situations atm.

www - lol @ you thinking 'looking nice' must be a result of being pg...definitely the bootcamp effect working I would say!

marina, sorry you had a bad day at work as well.

DofNB - hope you're feeling better this morning.

We had homemade soup for tea last night, made with onions, courgettes, potato, and carrots, and the chicken stock left over from being HFW'ed with our Sunday chicken, and boiling it up in a fit of 'green living'. Was very nice anyway. And it always feels very virtuous.

LoveAndSqualor · 17/01/2008 09:27

WWW, at Chelsea. Actually, we're in Hackney! Class is just behind Dalston junction ... so heaven knows what they call people in south-west London. Surely there's nowhere left to go? (I go the two slices of toast and a banana route, btw, and it seems to keep me full until lunch - toast on its own not enough, ime)

bamamama - re the names of the babies, that's exactly what DP said. Expect a full report as soon as they start arriving ..

Have an ante-natal appt at my GP this morning, so had lovely lie-in until half seven and am now at home, finishing off a piece of work and eating yoghurt and muesli bowl no 2, after knocking the first one all over the floor. Last night, had delicious lasagne courtesy of DP and some cadbury's whole nut chocolate for pudding. There's going to have to be some easing up on the chocolate after this baby appears. Going out for dinner with friends tonight, but going to the gym beforehand so hopefully the two will balance out!

unknownrebelbang · 17/01/2008 19:57

Oh dear, methinks I was feeling sorry for myself last night. .

Just a quick visit tonight...

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy
  • Almost 60 very gentle minutes on the exercise bike
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy
  • Go to bed early - stupid o'clock again last night - DH on schoolrun this morning.
  • Eat healthily, good day today, but I will be indulging in some chocolate vv soon. I have been eating salad leaves which I've never really enjoyed before, and I like them...as long as they've got some sort of dressing. Only took me 40 years, lol. Dya think I'll ever discover a liking for veg??
  • Be happy. A close friend has had some sad news and I'm really sorry for her. On the up, DS2 is his adorable self again and the cello situation will get sorted. Oh, and sheer joy - I've discovered a supply of Daddies Sauce, our local Tesco hasn't stocked it for months. See, I'm so easily pleased really, lol.
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/01/2008 20:16

t/shell - hope everything is OK
unknown - hurrah for Daddies sauce. DH goes into a decline if we run out of HP!
l&s - I also eagerly await the names update!
batters - so many thousands of steps. Brilliant.

Today I've had toast & marmalade & real coffee at someone elses house post-school run, v nice way to have breakfast! Ham & coleslaw sandwich on brown & apple. Fig roll biscuit. 2 raw carrots. Steak, chips, mushrooms & tomatoes and a v small bowl of apple & blackcurrant crumble (was supposed to be blackberry but on raiding the freezer I discovered they'd all gone - the blackcurrants were an excellent sub).

Exercise today - lots of school walking and 40 minute walk with the dog.

Hand cream is lacking so I shall attend to that shortly. Everything else good. Will flexitol later & have another early night (was in bed before 11pm last night and slept well). Possibly as a result of sleeping, I had an excellent day with the DCs who were fab and fun and full of sensible, interesting chat at dinner and then DD1 & DS1 read really well at bedtime.

kidsrus · 17/01/2008 22:37

thanks for the welcome everyone.
think im doing everything re3quired.
spf
cream h/f and arms/legs
eating loads of fruit and veg

water? 2xcoffee,1tea,1fruit tea,2xglasses squash.(no water)
Very happy today (could that be due to being able to catch up with the mountains of house work while dd sleeps for an hour)

how exciting to hear of a 1st time mum, what a great gift you have been given,i have 2 and its just a cough and a sneeze just like shelling peas.
Every stage of their life is just another phase which never last long so enjoy each and every moment

I am sure wrinkles are the norm all over at our age batters - dont't forget Boots now do a body serum as well, so your stomach could look like Anne Robinson's face in no time
btw I've been meaning to say a big thanks to you for recommending Soap and Glory to me (mid-price lovely toiletries in larger Boots gals). That Clean on Me is honestly the nicest bodywash I've ever used, and I am a major shower gel tart.
Torty, I got your mail and will reply - yesterday was a bit frantic. No comeback on Moment of Workplace Lunacy yet thank the lord, hope things improve for you soon too.
Duchess, have you got/spent your SweatyBetty vouchers yet?
And unknown, congratulations on 20 years of marriage sorry I missed your announcement earlier. We are married 12 years but together 20 in total too. Good result for your dh - isn't it in the JD for defence briefs to try and undermine police evidence wherever possible though
Funny sort of day yesterday - good eating and drinking, good use made of assorted creams, not much walking due to course and general busyness at work, choir practice - big happiness quotient as we are recording a fundraising Christmas CD for next year and to our astonishment even the raw recording of us slashing and burning our way through Ding Dong Merrily On High sounded quite good, etc
But I think the sadness in our family just now is having an effect. I keep putting things down and forgetting where I've left them, and dd is on a "Am I going to die? Is uncle in heaven with our baby who died? Can they see each other?" sort of riff, bless her.
So you will understand that I had to lie on the sofa and watch ER rather than release Erin and Karen from their cellophane gaol...

I agree batters, so I don't mind talking to her about it. We then moved on to whether Father Christmas could see them mind you Dd was born sharing her opinions with us and has proceeded to do so relentlessly ever since. But it is true that we are never in any doubt about her state of mind
Unlike your dd ds has always been wakeful - we often used to see his bushbaby eyes peering at us from the cot if we woke ourselves, never mind all the times he woke us.
I am thinking of the old milky drink, no screens/IT of any sort after 6.30pm, warm bath stuff, which I often mull over but rarely get round to implementing firmly. Might also find some soothing music - thanks to the wonderful Space Pirates ds informed me that Moonlight Sonata was a brilliant piece of music for relaxing to
Have you tried any of the above - I think their effect is cumulative, ie, one night and then parental caving in is never going to work
I think Ray is gone gone gone though - unless you know different and he comes back from Baton Rouge...I think I do need help though as I am finding Scott Grimes and Leland Orser really quite acceptable substitutes, esp. the former

winnie · 18/01/2008 11:22

I am nearly wetting myself at my desk from Marina's so your stomach could look like Anne Robinson's face in no time

winnie · 18/01/2008 11:36

oh bugger, I just lost a long post sending sympathies to Marina. Marina, dd will be fine you have such a practical, positive, open approach, you are the best kind of Mum to talk to

Bootcamping isn't going well on the healthy eating, exercise & water front. A training day at work yesterday meant faced with cake mid afternoon when I was feeling really weary, I succumbed (Is there such a word? [blush, blush]) But I've realised I am extremely tired again and I think I have thrush (sorry tmi) and it is always connected to eating and exercise

Cam · 18/01/2008 14:01

Sorry to hear about your uncle Marina

Batters, re your dd, a few months ago my dd suddenly needed to go to bed about half an hour later in order to be able to get to sleep easily and not wake too early.

She seemed to suddenly grow in a big spurt (in every way)

She's 11 tomorrow

LoveAndSqualor · 18/01/2008 14:30

Marina!! horrified at thought of stomach looking like Anne Robinson's face .... Imagine looking down in the bath to find her winking at you ...

Oh Winnie, really bad luck on the thrush. Yowch. I hate thrush, perennial sufferer.

Really need to apply some self-discipline, foodwise. Gym last night was followed by lovely dinner with two friends, but at a greek restaurant, so heavy on the halloumi. Only one piece of pitta though, and peppermint tea instead of pudding. But! This morning I have managed

Two slices of granary toast and peanut butter
Small coffee
Grapes
Small apple danish in meeting

and - greatest horror - sausage roll and chips for lunch. Don't think I've had this since I was 10. And it wasn't even nice. Will eat many apples and bananas as penance this afternoon ...
