WWW's six week ten year younger boot camp, WEEK TWO, 2008

This is week 2 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Hello everyone.

Yes TS, a lot of us have got difficult working situations haven't we? Always feels like it's the world's worst though when it's you in the middle of it iykwim?

Sounds like a good night last night L&S.

eww at the thought of an Ann Robinson tum!

Feel for your DD Marina, but I agree - she's talking and that's a good thing.

And yes, the defence do often slate the prosecution witnesses (not just the police) so it was good for him to get some sort of acknowledgement from the Mag.

No advice re DD and sleeping Batters. My younger two (9 and 11) can be a pain to get into bed. They don't need as much sleep as I'd like them to have but they seem fine most of the time.

Sorry to hear about the thrush Winnie.

unknownrebelbang · 18/01/2008 19:30
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy
  • About 60 minutes on the exercise bike
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy
  • Go to bed early - 10.15pm. Ok, so I had grapes (Better than the bagel I wanted to take and the paper with me. Still a moral victory, lol.
  • Eat healthily, good day today, ate far too much chocolate last night.
  • Be happy. It's the weekend and DH is off all weekend, so yes I'm happy.

Have a great weekend everyone!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/01/2008 20:27

Just nipping in before dinner... but rofl at anne robinson face. And no I haven't received my SweatyBetty vouchers yet - and I'm being taunted by their sale ads on this very thread.

Only 30mins walk with dog as the weather was vile.

I've eaten toasted bagel with cream cheese, pineapple juice (weird but true), brie, avocado & crackers for lunch, apple, loads of coffee today, plenty of water, about to eat baked potato & prawns & salad and then a bowl of cherries. I've had at least 3 chocolate digestives too actually. Quite a lot of water/squash.

Was in bed just after 11pm, will aim at before 11pm tonight. Lotions & potions good. Will flexitol later too - feet are actually quite presentable at the moment.

Have a good weekend.

Hello all. Rofl at Anne Robinson face (plus slightly ewww).

Well it's bucketing down with rain today. Proper British rain with no end in sight which is good for a country in drought but no good if you want to get out with your moron (ffs, am I never happy?).

Did my exercise in the park for the first time in weeks yesterday so a little stiff today. Have generally ate well and not had too much wine so not bad at all bootcamp wise. On the happiness front things are good too. In the last couple of days I've managed to catch a couple of recitals given by the Australian Youth Orchestra (frighteningly talented group of young people) and their composer in residence is Joby Talbot who I have been a huge fan of since his days with The Divine Comedy. I managed not to appear like a stalker so a result all round!

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

I wish I'd have mumsnet when I had my first child too, it would have made a BIG difference. Bama, lol at height of your mning while should be doing somethng else, hope the poo came off the carpet ok!

Batters, well... on the granola front, I decided not to take breakfast and lunch into work any more to lighten the load in my bag and that has led to toast in the mornings in a nice kind of ritual, get it from the cafe and eat it while browsing my emails kind of way. I like it. If I ever get around to getting some food delivered to work then I may go back to the granola. Or not. I love toast. And this is white bread, butter and Marmite. Not terribly good for me, carbs, fat but hmm. I like it. 17000 steps, gosh I'm impressed. I agree, Capt Jack is delicious. I ate about 200 cal worth of chocolate rice krispie cakes from M&S while watching it too. You know the spots will go away, it's getting used to this again. I reckon my skin reflects what I did a few days ago so if I had a healthy week by the we my skin looks ok.

I feel perky too. In fact, I feel great on the whole. I like this.

Tshell, fair enough, well I hope it improves for you. V impressive on chicken stock and soup front.

L&S, ah, Hackney, ok

unknownrelbang, 60 mins v impressive and good news about the Daddies, gosh, I haven't heard that brand name in a while!

DofN, that sounds like a lovely day you had on Thursday.

kidrus, well done on all the bootcamp rules. Housework makes you happy? Hmm.

Batters, in answer to the wrinkles question I'd say first of all, does it matter? Will you ever want to wear a bikini again? And I think I should refer you to a photo in a recent Heat of Elle McPherson no less, in the sea in a bikini with a wrinkly stomach, will see if I can find it in a minute. I have noticed I have wrinkles on my ankles fhs. And I am beginning to think I shouldn't ever wear a top that doesn't cover my entire arm down to my wrist as my forearms are middle aged looking and slightly mottled. I don't know what do do about this. Sunscreen maybe? I emember Martianbishop saying if you want to see the difference between skin that IS sun damaged and skin that isn't look at your forearm for skin that is and then turn your arm over and look at skin that isn't. It's true, my underarm is soft and pale as a baby's bottom.

Oh Marina, I'm sorry you're feeling the effects and dd is too, you are most definitely excused tedious exercise dvds.

Batters, tell us more about dd's sleeping thing. What does she say? How does she feel? How is school etc? Anything else worrying her?

Winnie, come back into the fold my child and you will feel better. There is indeed such a word, and a fabulous word it is too!

L&S yum at halloumi, I used to have a Greek acquaintance who swore it was strained through old ladies knickers and I always think of that when I hear of halloumi. Sorry, you probably will too now!

Batters, lovely to hear you're going out with dp. Have a great time.

Yesterday
2 pieces toast at work and I reckon those butter portions might be 7g actually so that's good
an egg mayo sandwich, 360 cals
a banana
an apple
4 Quality St oops
and then came home and had
singapore noodles
special fried rice
chicken dopiaza
naan (not much though)
Champagne
about 6 toffees
a mini bar of G&B butterscotch chocolate
and went to bed at 10pm, just wiped out from the week

And dh sent me flowers at work so that was lovely and it's the weekend!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 19/01/2008 08:27

And it might not have been Elle, might have been Cindy, who's 41? It's someone who's 41 and has had at least 2 children, am searching but cannot find it.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 19/01/2008 08:47

Hey, it was Cindy Crawford and I found it!

Oh I agree, Cindy looks fantastic, I'd love to look like that. But she does have a wrinkly stomach.

No, we're not celebrating anything, I had a whinge earlier in the week about how there's not enough romance in our lives so he's responding to that, the sweetheart. And I need to reciprocate as all I've done is order him some new boxer shorts (£100 worth, admittedly, it's YEARS since he bought any news ones in fact, never since I've known him and we've been together 8 years) which he was pleased with and I did let him lie in til 9am and then took him up a cafetiere of coffee and a bacon sandwich.

Batters, if she's got a lot on can you cancel any of it temporarily?

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/01/2008 10:59

Good for Cindy. That's what most over-30 post-children bodies look like.

batters - about nearly 10yo DD, is she about to go into Year 6 of primary or move up to secondary? I guess that's a worry. Had she reached puberty and/or having a huge growth spurt, perhaps a changing body has an effect on sleep? Quiet time would be good and the reading at bedtime is a good idea. Good luck with it.

at flowers and champagne.

Off to DD1s swimming lessons now - she has recently lost all co-ordination due to growth & lack of concentration so I get to watch her flounder and sputter for 30 minutes. She loves it though!

I feel your pain sobernow. Dh tends to scavenge at railway stations for elderly alstroemeria, tell me proudly what a splendid discount the nice lady gave him for them, then try and get me drunk - not on champagne I might add, we are a sadly vin de pays pair of soaks
OTOH I don't tend to buy him glamour chuddies either, so maybe therein lies our problem (only undie outlets in local high street are the World's Worst Branch of Next, M & S and John's Outsize Fashions and Knitting Supplies. Ds had hysterics in there when he spotted the lingerie display so I had to abandon my purchase of bamboo needles and run for it)
Am cheered by realistic photos of gorgeous mother at ease with her body. I'd be in a one-piece myself but then I don't have her bust, height, hair, teeth or general chutzpah. Good for Cindy indeed!
We maybe short of bijou knicker boutiques but we do have a sparkling new pools and gym complex just opened, replacing a building that looked like something out of Barton Fink, so dh has taken the dcs for a recce while I tidy up. It gives me a break from "Did uncle have his glasses ON or OFF when he died?" "Is he dead in his clothes or not?"
A good weekend to all, sounds like many enjoyable experiences await us all. Haven't walked very far yet but have done a lot of lifting and trotting round the house. Am flexitoled and creamed but need to get more water.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to cam's dd - cannot believe she is 11 already
Good luck with your campaign to drag-chain your dd's lively mind batters
and stay well all bootcampers!

PollyDolly · 19/01/2008 20:34

Hello everyone - no time to reply in detail but I've been reading and keeping abreast ish of developments. No booze til yesterday but I made up for it last night. And today has been booze central as we had friends for lunch who have just left! A huge rib of beef has been demolished between 4 of us - and several buckets of wine. I'm out as well tomorrow. Oh dear.

Hope all are well and enjoying the weekend. I'll try to reply more substantively tomorrow

marina · 19/01/2008 20:44

Pollydolly goes Viking
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

unknownrebelbang · 19/01/2008 22:55

I struggled when my boys were little, so I think MN may have been a big help. Conversely, it could have sent my stress levels through the roof, lol.

How lovely is your DH www? DH would never think of sending me flowers at work. Having said that, he'd probably never live it down if he did! (He has been known to pop in occasionally though, and brings choccie and sandwiches and things). He is great in lots of other ways too, but neither of us is particularly romantic. Did smile at the thought of £100 worth of underwear.

DS2 + DS3 are rarely asleep before 10. Drive me crackers tbh, but given their general demeanour most of the time they obviously rarely need more sleep than they're getting. Good luck with getting her settled Batters.

unknownrebelbang · 19/01/2008 23:03

DS1 has broken his blardy finger...five weeks before a competition, and two days before he was supposed to give a talk/demo to a group of cubs about karate, erm may have to postpone that, lol.

Baaad mum alert -I wouldn't have taken him to the hospital, although I did say let your dad take a look when he gets home, and when DH came home he decided to get it checked out.

Put the mockers on a lazy Saturday evening, but heyho. He's in a bit of pain, but nothing too drastic.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy
  • About 30 mins on the bike, plus 30 mins walking to/from town (plus a quick dart around town)
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy
  • Go to bed early - it's the weekend.
  • Eat healthily - it's the weekend, but not too bad.
  • Be happy. Weekend? DH at home? oh yes I'm happy (DS1's finger aside).
kidsrus · 19/01/2008 23:53

cam hope your dd had a lovely day today.
it was my dd birthday too, cant believe 2 years ago my dh was on his hands and knees catching her before the ambulance and midwife arrived!
made the local rag and had all the neighbours talking.

im afraid ive failed on most things today but i will grease my palms when i go to bed along with me knees, elbows, face and legs.
but ive been very happy eating drinking and being merry.

as for the cindy thing i don't have wrinkles on my stomach mine is quite taunt (with fat) i must lose weight some by easter!
but would love to look like that in a bikini but know its impossable as mt boobs are bigger than hers.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/01/2008 19:39

unknown - poor old DSs finger. You are right, you are a baaaad mother (heh heh, I'd have said exactly the same thing)!!!

kidsrus - how fab that DH caught the baby. That nearly happened to us last time, midwife arrived as I was getting into the bath, 3 pushes and my work was done.

Today I've had toast & marmite, apple juice, roast chicken & all the works, half a glass Chablis, lemon mousse pudding, tiny cheese souffle & salad and lot of dried fruit. LOADS of water and not much coffee.

I've felt very pregnant for the last couple of days, my bump has suddenly appeared but still isn't quite big enough to hold up maternity wear so I'm down to my Boden silk skirts (not great in the rain) and my Monsoon trousers (now minus the belt). At least I've eaten properly today, I've been very off food recently.

I've also had very dry skin so I've had no make-up today and have continuously slathered on oily face creams (kids must think it's Hallowe'en)!

I have mucked out 8 huge wheelbarrows of sodden woodshavings which weigh a ton so that's my exercise for the day.

And now I'm off to iron uniforms and watch The Bourne Ultimatum.

WideWebWitch · 20/01/2008 21:05

Hello everyone! I will start a new thread in a minute but will post my TERRIBLE diet (I mean as in no veg etc) first, feel free anyone else too, won't start new one for an hour or so.

Yesterday
2 pieces toast and Marmite
cold singapore noodles and special fried rice leftovers eaten straight from the fridge
2 pieces of PE America hot pizza and caesar salad (made by dh but goodness, mayo and everytging, he did a proper caesar dressing)
a sausage in a hot dog roll
5 fishfingers
some chips in a white bread and butter sandwich
buckets of wine

not a green thing in there except the salad and I didn't have much of that. I haven't left the house today either.

Today
2 pieces toast and butter
grapes
1 small piece of lil moo organic cheese
some prawns
a piece of bread slatered with butter
boiled egg and 2 pieces of toast with lots of butter
a couple of small falafels
a mini samosa
prob enough water
at least no wine today

have had a great day lolling in bed and reading loads of books to dd and chapters of ds;s book to him. I'm really enjoying reading him an Alex Rider novel (the 14yo spy from the film Stormbreaker)

so high on happiness but erm also, sadly, on lard.

onwards everyone!
