if you can look at a fully grown man wearing a dress, make up and care bear tights and think of sexualising children, then the problem is NOT with the model.

CutesyUserName · 13/05/2022 13:16

This looks like a 'broney' thing - a concept I struggle to understand.

Beowulfa · 13/05/2022 13:16

Remember, women, if you object to adverts using images of an adult male dressed as a sexualised little girl clutching a toy at his crotch you're:

-transphobic
-middle aged
-middle class
-a Karen
-a pearl-clutcher
-and wearing Boden

A man has told us, so it must be true.

TokyoTen · 13/05/2022 13:17

I love them! I don't see what's wrong with the ad either (not sure it's been explained up thread either).

WowStarsWow · 13/05/2022 13:17

AnyFucker · 13/05/2022 12:49

I just don't see anyone who looks like me on their site

Neither do I. Kinda debunks the “inclusive” bollocks, doesn’t it ?

They’re so inclusive they’re exclusive!

I feel bad for pretty ordinary trans people. The whole thing has been hijacked by the fringe, fetishy types such that people cannot complain about a particular kind of ‘trans-Lolita-Clown’ imagery without being called transphobic.

Why does trans have to mean weird fetishy stuff? Complaining about a campaign featuring some pretty ordinary looking trans women in tights alongside a range of more or less ordinarily presented women in tights would be a different thing.

RestingPandaFace · 13/05/2022 13:17

Is this a current advert or an old one? They went through a phase where their advertising very off putting, overtly sexualised and very focused on the link; but they got a new content manager and is seems to be a bit more mainstream again with some of the worst of the old images completely disappearing, so I don’t know if this is one from that time that’s resurfaced or if they are heading back that way again.

‘They could be a trans cat for all I care but why so they need to look like an over grown sexual toddler?’

They might be A little. Snag seem to be targeting the little community. It’s an aspect of being a submissive for some people. A kink, if you like. Google it.

Nothing to do with children or pedophiles.

I fucking hate littles.
I used to moderate a fetish forum.
They are gross.
Most of the people on that forum hated the littles and the furries 🤣

BoredZelda · 13/05/2022 13:18

The ‘little girl’ styling is fucking creepy.

Perfectly ok for other brands to style girl/teen models in sultry poses though, yes?

I actually wish I could believe this were true. On paper, that all sounds well and good.

Unfortunately I've seen too many cases like this:

Mumsnet is known for being transphobic, I'm not sure why some of you are pretending you're not, you are very transparent. It's not a coincidence that the picture is of a man and not a woman.

Are you saying that all trans people are fetishists? Because this image clearly portrays a fetish being acted out. You’re the one who’s determined this is a trans person. Why are you so keen to link trans with fetishism?

And yet Grayson Perry is a national treasure.

Definitely not dressed up as a little girl. What on earth are you looking at?

ZenNudist · 13/05/2022 13:21

I won't buy from them again.

webseb · 13/05/2022 13:22

Calling someone a 'Karen' isn't a very inclusive comment to make 🤔

Your post makes literally no sense. If it's a male model then comments are not transphobia. Also how can you assume anyone's gender? Everyone is commenting on the creepy little girl styling. You're the first person to mention anything to do with trans.

Totally! This whole thing is so offensive to trans people. It demeans them and makes all out to be paedophiles which they are not! It's almost like this company is trolling transgender people at this point. Like it's a Christian deliberately trying to make trans people look bad.

In fact, I would say if anything is transphobic, the photo is transphobic and Snags are transphobic for trolling and demeaning trans people like this. And those that approve of this picture are actually the transphobic ones because they assume this is how trans people are.

Actually ...

'A traditional transvestite wants to 'pass' as a woman. That's not my goal. For me, dressing up as a little girl is about experiencing the vulnerable quintessence of female femininity. It's shorthand for the kind of attention I want. It's about a fantasy of humiliation, too. Humiliation plays an enormous part in all fetish. It's about re-playing childhood emotional dramas. I don't dress as a vulnerable little boy because for me the boy wouldn't have the same emotional range.

...

I was first turned on aged nine. I was at school doing art and they made me wear a turquoise rubberised smock, which just felt exhilarating.'

In his own words.

So irritating that Advanced Search has gone - there was a similar thread about Snag and their nasty advertising only a couple of months ago.

I will never buy from them - their ad campaigns are generally not for me, and these recent two at least are positively repellent.

WowStarsWow · 13/05/2022 13:32

@TalkingCat yes. No one even mentioned trans until @HailAdrian did. Why are people trying to derail like this? I’m not trans shaming and I’m not fat shaming. I’m shaming the idea of displaying fetishes in adverts.

I didn’t realise but snag actually do sell kids tights as well. 😬

Yes that's how it looks to me, too. I have been involved with a My Little Pony online game for nearly 2 decades now, we don't seem to have any overt bronies but that's how I came to hear about them. The website I'm on was originally made by an MLP fan's partner so she could play pony games, create pony worlds and breed virtual ponies online with others. It's a great game if you like that sort of thing - very niche. Most players are adults although there are some kids, it's a G-rated game and forum so nothing untoward there.

I object to the toy unicorns being called 'toddler's toys', though! Some of us adults love collecting toys of all types! I'm sorry but I did chuckle at the outrage over the model 'petting his toy unicorn'. I mean, what else would you do with it? Grin

I don't like the picture much, he/she looks like a nefarious clown that might be up to no good once you turn your back. The unicorns are cute, though! I might want one... Grin

WowStarsWow · 13/05/2022 13:33

Oh and I’m not dungaree shaming either!

Oh, enough now. I wonder why you didn't choose to post one of the many many pics of female models wearing similar outfits. Because you knew you'd get the response you wanted. It's absolutely no surprise that people like you are mocked, you make mumsnet look silly.

rosiethefemaleone · 13/05/2022 13:35

Where is that image from on their website? I've had a look at their care bears range, and can't see it.

They did appear to go through a very sexualised stage in their marketing, and I stopped buying from them, but my perception was that they'd gone back to having women of all shapes etc sitting on the sofa to show their tights.

I like the tights. People can wear what they like. I don't care if they want to market the same tights to men and women. I do dislike fetishisation of clothing. Men are allowed to buy socks etc without sexy poses, I want to be able to buy tights, leggings and stockings in the same way. I'm so bored of the use of sex to sell things, it's so last century. I want quality, recycling, and ethical manufacture, as well as comfort and colours.

SoggyPaper · 13/05/2022 13:35

Look. It’s totally possible to present my little pony tights in ways that aren’t creepy.
