Things you are just fed up with?

I'm really really tired of everything being stretchy jersey. I used to find crisp cotton pj's everywhere but not anymore, it's nearly always thin, cheap jersey now that clings and has no shape. Just why? It's everywhere and usually touted as being 'perfectly soft', but it rarely looks decent.

Also fed up of white trainers, plimsols, slip on footwear, but I do get that these are often comfortable.

Polyester and viscose unlined dresses in lurid patterns that cost as much as lined silk Shock

Cold shoulder tops. They are horrible on me. I have accidentally bought a couple not realising that's what they were. I tried stitching them up but they looked even more hideous. Off the the charity shop they went.

catfunk · 28/03/2022 19:08

What remains of my local H&M is terrible. I just don't trust them. Will have a look online, thanks!

I'm another who loves a dress with pockets. I dont always want to carry a bag about and once I've taken my coat off at work, want to be able go have my phone and mask on my person and have hands free. Men never worry about pockets adding bulk, yet rarely do men carry phone, keys and wallet in a bag.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 29/03/2022 19:40

Another vote for viscose. I've bought too many nice dresses recently that have shrunk horribly in the wash. I now buy these home dry clean sachets that you stick in the tumble drier on low for fifteen minutes or so - they're pretty good, and then I do spot cleaning on 'pits and any stains.

I'm also sick of maternity clothes largely having high round necklines. They make my face look massive and I'm puffy enough as it is - I can appreciate that not every pregnant woman might want to showcase her increased assets in a deep V, but a few options wouldn't go amiss! Slash neck! Scoop neck! Come on!

KatharinaRosalie · 29/03/2022 20:15

High waisted jeans can just do one , they come up to my rib cage and make even flat tummies look rounded.

so much this! I don't even have a belly, but high waisted jeans manage to create one.

A bit different angle, but dressing all children past size 140 as emo teenagers. Or even past size 128 in some shops. No more colours or fun patters, just depressing black and khaki and gamer slogans.

Ohyesiam · 29/03/2022 20:23

@Mindtheears

Someone recommended a company for dressing gowns the other day. They really were “gowns”, patterned and no towelling (or jersey!) in sight. No idea what the company was though which is annoying as was trying to remember.
Was it One Hundred Stars?

Oh I love and hate H&M - I hate H&M the shop, always find it impossible to find anything i want and being in the shop a depressing experience. H&M online, I can find lots of things i like, and when I order, generally happy with them and keep the purchases. Not sure if its just the store layouts annoy me or if what I like isn't their most popular ranges they put in store.

The shops are just a mess, clothes not ironed...
beatrixpotterspencil · 29/03/2022 22:34

I hate the knitwear in H&M.
Whenever I used to go into a store there was always fluffy stuff flying around coming off the knits, which were invariable odd-shaped. The shoulders would be 4 feet wide, with arms for an orangutan, then slightly cropped, boxy and narrow at the hem. Would make anyone look like the honey monster.

Huff..

White t-shirts and tops that are see through. Having to put a cami in underneath negates then reason why I’ve chosen a cool white top to wear!

Tops that have awful embellishments of logos on. H&M is worst for this, you spy a nice top pull it out the rail and it’s got BE KIND on it in pink sequins or BRIDE SQUAD squiggled across the front!

Shirts that gape at the boob, in fact any clothing where you either have tight on the boobs to fit the waist or fits the boobs but there’s no waist so looks like a sack!

But the main one is neutrals! Don’t get me wrong neutrals are fab but there’s this trend at the moment for a wardrobe full of beige, white and black and it’s just so boring! Where’s the colour? Although it looks like bright colours are coming back into fashion for SS22 season so there is hope 😍

toomanytwinkies · 29/03/2022 22:56

Yes! I was looking last night for some t shirts, but most I could find were all cropped. I’m 50 years old. Nobody wants to see my tummy and I certainly don’t want it on show!

Buy in the tall range, most of the T-shirts I buy now are lovely and long!

catfunk · 29/03/2022 23:03

@beatrixpotterspencil yeah I got mine online. The shorts and boxy shirt sets in cotton and some longer tunics in linen. V good I've had them for a few years

Thatsplentyjack · 30/03/2022 07:49

To be honest...everything. I'm sick of it all. I've been shopping a few times, see something I think "ooh that looks OK. Ill try it on", try it on and it looks nothing like it did on the hanger and it was only ok on that.
Especially sick of short tops. Nothing is a normal length and it's all to show off the shite high wasted jeans that make anyone who's not a size 8 and under look awful.

Parfait · 30/03/2022 08:14

For me, it is quality of fabric, I pretty much hate manmade fibres.

I used to shop in charity shops when I was a student- back when a lovely soft woven men's shirt could be 20p and there were 70s items not labelled vintage!

Now charity shops are mainly a repository for cheap fast fashion and are just as awful. (Having said that I did find a 100% Silk oyster dressing gown - 1980s from a new York shop and hardly worn for £10 recently).

I shop a lot in TK Maxx now - although it's not current season, I can dress in cashmere, silk, pure cotton etc, and have a soupcon of design thrown in.

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/03/2022 09:57

Knickers. Just actual cotton, nice design (I like bright colours), that cover the bum. Not much to ask? They’re all ‘Brazilian’ / cutaway or shorts or thongs. I just want knickers how knickers used to be.

Gonnagetgoing · 30/03/2022 10:02

I'm tired of cropped, skimpy stuff everywhere or dresses/clothes which look like they haven't been designed properly or cheap stuff.

Was in Brent Cross shopping centre the other weekend, in H&M, Mango, passed Zara and though I bought a dress in Mango and some bits in H&M they were ok. Bought some boots in H&M but returned and when I was in there and New Look and Primark last weekend I wasn't tempted. The only thing I liked in Primark was a checked browns jacket which of course they'd sold out of!

I have better success with local boutiques.

TheChosenTwo · 30/03/2022 12:51

I’m fed up with my moon face Grin
I saw some photos of me from a while ago and I was shocked at how pretty my face was! Youth is wasted on the young, I felt gutted looking back to how ugly I convinced myself I was!!
And I know, in future I’ll look back at moonface and probably wish I still looked like this (this is doubtful 😂)…

ArtVandalay · 30/03/2022 12:57

Moulded cup bras. It’s getting harder and harder to find underwired tshirt bras that don’t have those hideous moulded cups in which my boobs look like torpedoes.

comeondover · 30/03/2022 13:27

Draughty ankles because so many trousers are cut to 7/8 length, grrr.

Precipice · 30/03/2022 13:32

nth person to say the awful fabrics. Ever present polyester, and even when you escape polyester, you're hit with 100% viscose or the like. Where's the cotton?

Cap sleeves. I like a proper short sleeve covering the deltoid. Cap sleeves are neither sleeveless nor actual sleeve, so unsatisfactory in both directions.

Online selling that doesn't give shoulder width measurements for tops. Do these sellers think of women as stick figures only with a bust and hips? Sometimes also a problem with fitting: recently tried on a Superdry t-shirt that was loose generally, even baggy lower down, but uncomfortable after a few minutes on the shoulders. I'm broad-shouldered, but I'm not vastly disproportional.

No material where there should be material. So many tops wanting me to show skin I don't want to show. If it's not a deep neckline, it's a weirdly cut out back, plunging armpit holes or random holes. Why can't women actually cover their whole torso? I have this problem with a lot of shirts, as I basically don't want necklines lower than my collarbones.

For bras: the difficulty in finding a bra that has no underwire, is not at all padded, doesn't have any lace, separate breast cups and is neither very high nor showing a lot of the breast. I love these: images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41hd4AUU3NL.SY90.jpg but they've been discontinued for years.

All (semi-)formal trousers either wide or narrow. The cut that works best for me is where they're tight on the thigh and then looser past the knee. M&S used to do these, but seemingly no more.

comeondover · 30/03/2022 13:35

Oh yes, I have more. Things that are nice but only available in black (I look shit in black) or that dreary, insipid pale grey that looks like a whites wash fail and I imagine must be cheaper to produce than other colours because there's nothing else to commend it.

Cocobeau · 30/03/2022 13:41
@TwoBigNoisyBoys that does put it all in perspective Flowers

I'm fed up with the stupid sleeves trend. I found a pretty dress in Next but it had these massive flouncy sleeves and being broad shouldered I just look like a rugby player!

I'm also fed up with trainer socks slipping under my heels. Love my NB trainers but not the 150 billion times I have to hike up the socks when I'm wearing them. Have tried all brands to no avail.

Also fed up of trousers being far too long these days - even the petite length ones.

And not being able to find any jeans that fit....

Will stop moaning now Grin
I could have written every word of this.

Mermaidwaves · 30/03/2022 15:51

I'm 6ft, fat with massive boobs and I really dont suit high necked, floral 'vicars wife' type midi dresses. They're everywhere especially in plus size fashion! I start a new job soon and dont know what to wear! I'm a dresses only person so am stumped
