Things you are just fed up with?

I'm really really tired of everything being stretchy jersey. I used to find crisp cotton pj's everywhere but not anymore, it's nearly always thin, cheap jersey now that clings and has no shape. Just why? It's everywhere and usually touted as being 'perfectly soft', but it rarely looks decent.

Also fed up of white trainers, plimsols, slip on footwear, but I do get that these are often comfortable.

Polyester and viscose unlined dresses in lurid patterns that cost as much as lined silk Shock

I don’t really keep up with fashion, I have my own style which consists of wearing things I find comfortable and things I like the look of. I agree with clingy stretchy jersey, I don’t really wear PJ’s, I wear cotton (hippy style) harem/yoga pants as PJ’s and a vest top.

I find it hard to find clothes I like, I hate florals and most summer clothes seems to be floral dresses and tops. I’m done with high wasted, still happy to wear skinny jeans though. I’m not keen on the ‘oversized’ look either, people walking around like they are wearing clothes 3 seizes too big for them.

After slating it on here merrily based on recent website horrors, on Friday I physically went into Zara and... It's like the Zara I remember from years back. Clearly presented, basically good quality clothes in cotton and linen in a few block colours - white, black, beige, and then some hot pinks and greens. I bought two outfits. I did want a thin long coat as I've been admiring all the cool girls in dusters and macs but I looked like a bag lady so I guess it's not a look for boobs.

I like the mom jeans and was in the wilderness during the low rise 2000s. My torso is about five miles long. Don't take them from me!

Gonnagetgoing · 28/03/2022 10:19
@Coniferhedge I'm late 20s size 8-10 and still don't want people to see my belly unless I'm at the beach. It's even worse when you see people walking round in tops that I can only call a sports bra.
@CraftyBugger and
@Coniferhedge
years ago when I was an 8-10 with a good figure in my early 20s we wore cropped jumpers/tops as everyone wore them!

But FFW to mid 20s when out clubbing, I could've done it but didn't!

Anyfeckinusername · 28/03/2022 10:24

I am sick of stretchy jeans! I want jeans in old denim, more rigid and less leggings-y (even though I’ve loads!) I’m sick of the stretch.

IndoorsyImogen · 28/03/2022 10:25

I also didn't go for belly out tops, even when I had the figure for it!

I saw a woman in what really did look like a black, lacy bra and jeans, walking along a platform at a train station this weekend. She did not look comfortable at all and that meant it looked as of she'd accidentally left her top behind. It's a tricky one, as you need to wear those sorts of outfits with total confidence.
But that level of confidence is difficult to summon when you're wearing nothing but a bra, unless you're a Hollywood a-lister/model! Doesn't help when people stare, but it's hard not to do a double take when someone is pretty much in their underwear in a train station!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/03/2022 10:31

I am sick of women's clothes being labelled "Recycled! Eco friendly!" which tends to mean 100% polyester or acrylic but coming with the price tag you would expect for wool, linen or cotton.

Meanwhile men's clothes tend to be made from wool, cotton or linen, and moderately priced.

@IndoorsyImogen - the cycling shorts and crop or not combo in pastel/nude shades I often wonder why? I see some women in nude leggings and sometimes you can't tell which is their skin and which isn't!

I did wear cycling shorts in 90s but always with baggy tshirt.

The one thing I never minded about (because I had a good rack Wink was showing cleavage, but even then I didn't do what some women do which is literally a boob tube showing a big amount of boob under it (friend's daughter has this on her FB photo). Why?

I would think she'd had a mega weekend clubbing and maybe had left her top behind and ran for a train and was just styling it out!

That said, I saw a woman in a bar wearing a hanky top. She had the figure for it but it was the wrong bar for that outfit and sadly people were staring. She ended up putting a friend's jacket on.

Wow, this looks amazing. Completely out of my price range, but it's gorgeous.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 28/03/2022 12:44

Does anyone here own a shibum/shybum? Do the sleeves go down to the wrist?

I’m going to save up for one of these if it has proper sleeves. I currently have a George/Asda special I bought years ago. Lined velvet full length with sleeves. The holy fucking grail and it was only £20.

I refuse to have anything to do with acrylic. I hate it more than polyester.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/03/2022 13:21

" Im beginning to slightly cope with buying straight leg jeans rather than skinnies. "

I can't find straight legs or slim styles any more, just flares, bootcut and sinnies.

beatrixpotterspencil · 28/03/2022 13:21

Ive seen this style popping up everywhere recently. It comes and goes but the elasticated bodice thing always makes my boobs look like a small loaf or wide sausage and i am small!

I wore dresses like this when i was 4, it was all the rage for young kids in the 70's/80's.

Nopey-nope!

@PrincessPaws my towelling dressing gown is from White Company and well worth the money. I do also have two fleecey ones for when it is cold. But I agree they are not a patch on a nice towelling one.

Regarding what I am fed up with, TBH most things don't seem to suit my pear shaped, perimenopausal 14 figure any more. I wear slim jeans and jumpers with bog standard Adidas trainers mostly.

beatrixpotterspencil · 28/03/2022 13:30

Also, the fact that many of us want lower rise jeans and trousers does NOT mean we want but-crack-revealing super low rise!

Mid rise is just fine thanks! One extreme or the other is crap imo.

Agree about the new labelling, I wont go near it - eco friendly polyester can fook off. I'm immune to greenwashing now, and all the higher end high street are jumping on it.
I tend to search for things I like on ebay now, i can basically locate anything, regardless of trends with a good search set up. I've also learned to spot decent fabrics from the photo's (not always easy) and have had some great luck - most of my summer stuff this year is second hand and quite lovely:)

Any wide leg cropped trousers. They look ridiculous on both men and women and they make even the longest legs appear shorter.

Bonus points for hideousness if they are made in jersey or fleece fabric.

Oh I adore these type of rouched top dresses. I find them extremely flattering. I have a very small waist, and medium (previously big) boobs. They always make them look good. These really started to come back into style last year and I ended up buying 5 dresses with the same style top and got loads of compliments.

I think it depends where they end. Below knee and mid calf l agree. Just above ankle and they look fine.

Pockets in dresses.

No no no. I have locked myself out of the house 73% less since my skirts all have pockets in.

@fridgepants

Pockets in dresses. More companies are putting them in now, and they sit in the most awkward place on my big hips. Besides, what am I going to put in the pocket of a summer dress that isn't going to eventually tear a hole?

I generally love a pocket in a dress - there have been a couple times though that I have seen them up and cut away the inside excess pocket fabrics because they showed through the material and just didn't look nice

beatrixpotterspencil · 28/03/2022 15:31

A well made dress will have well placed pockets that work perfectly.
I have a few, I love them!

I have a fairly expensive, wonderful long wool coat. This winter a hole came into the pocket lining and my bank card slipped into the bottom of the coat - cue a mortifying few minutes in Boots contorting myself to get at it, somewhere near my ankles Blush. People just stared at me like i was a maniac, when to be honest I was concerned about their lack of a sense of humour!
