I'm really really tired of everything being stretchy jersey. I used to find crisp cotton pj's everywhere but not anymore, it's nearly always thin, cheap jersey now that clings and has no shape. Just why? It's everywhere and usually touted as being 'perfectly soft', but it rarely looks decent.

Also fed up of white trainers, plimsols, slip on footwear, but I do get that these are often comfortable.

Polyester and viscose unlined dresses in lurid patterns that cost as much as lined silk Shock

Whyyyyy did you show me this
I will be drooling about it for weeks!

And cashmere too!

TulipsGarden · 27/03/2022 18:21

Peplum and shirred tops - can we not have tops that are cut properly with darts and a bodice?

Overly long, shapeless midi dresses.

White trainers.

Massive sleeves.

@CraftyBugger

Only being able to buy the top half of a top, why do they all have the bottom chopped off? Not everyone is comfortable walking around with their belly out!
Yes! I was looking last night for some t shirts, but most I could find were all cropped. I’m 50 years old. Nobody wants to see my tummy and I certainly don’t want it on show!
Coniferhedge · 27/03/2022 18:33

For people asking about dressing gowns, I stumbled across this website yesterday. Never purchased from them, but love the look of the velvet dressing gowns.

Tops that look normal but have an odd tiered bit at the bottom or little tie bits.
Too long jeans and trousers, why is the default always very long legs.
Dresses that ether have no room for boobs or have stupid little cut out bits so you can’t wear a bra.
One of the reasons I lost weight was because the plus sized shops/sections really seemed to think that all fat women want to wear is garish colours, horrible printed slogan tee shirts, cold shoulder tops and unfashionable jeans/trousers. They also seemed to think that no one over a size eighteen had a job as it was near impossible to find appropriate clothes. Or, they just sized up the normal ranges without thinking that a size twenty women might need a different fit.
Little embellishments that make a nice item automatically look cheap and nasty. Marks and Spencer’s are really good at this.
Mid to expensive clothes ranges being worse quality than primark.

NotAScoobyToBeSeen · 27/03/2022 18:42

@Crimeismymiddlename I was about to say the same things!!

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 27/03/2022 18:43

I despair of everything as above. But hit the jackpot in Zara today with linen shirts in blue and white https://www.zara.com/uk/en/linen-shirt-p02202500.html?v1=173972652&gclid=CjwKCAjwloCSBhAeEiwA3hVoZnVi6FirUuBMltFFuu1mNHDUuEBlEZA5R3mDrpsgjIL3cXpFL46qRoCCDQQAvDBwE

Perfect for summer.

@TwoBigNoisyBoys

Well I came on to say I’m fed up with the side effects of chemo, the sickness, weight gain, hair, eyebrows and eyelash loss and then realised I’d got it wrong 🙈😂 for this thread!!

So anyway, I AM still fed up with the weight gain, meaning none of my clothes fit, although thanks to the lovely S&B posters I bought a mini capsule wardrobe last weekend to tide me over til I get back to normal. Thank you all again 😘

But in the theme of the thread, I’m fed up with the huge long billowing dresses that swamp me (even when I was thinner!) as I’m only 5’2”, they just look ridiculous. And it’s the same for blouses too. I love wearing dresses, but haven’t been able to buy a really nice flattering one for a couple of years now.

That does put it into perspective a bit - best wishes from a stranger on the internet :)

Agree about the lengths and volume, I don't see whay we can't have nicely skimming dresses instead of voluminous entities like these. I have been using Ebay, found a few dresses, more pared down like 90's style. So much nicer!

beatrixpotterspencil · 27/03/2022 19:24

Agree abut the patterns.
I have been buying dresses on ebay, mostly 90's style when the patterns were more muted and in decent colours and the fit is still loose but not prairie-wide.

The tight jersey tops have been dominating the vest and tee market for too long now. A fitted tee needn't be such a stretchy monstrosity. They show bra straps and every slight detail through them. And try to find a cami top that isn't either polyester or stretch effing jersey Angry

I also don't do high waisted anything. I appreciate many people like them though. I just wish there were more mid rise for those of us with shorter torso's who prefer a neat fit above the hip that doesnt have a ton of bulgey fabric giving us a spare tyre.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/03/2022 19:25

Jersey is everywhere because it’s the cheapest method of fabric production.

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 27/03/2022 19:30

I can't stand boxy clothing. Everything is so big, baggy and boxy for the past couple years. If I wear that stuff I look like I'm wearing one of santas sacks. I have a very small waist, and they hide my (and most other people's) shape and make them look so much bigger than they are.

Clothes just generally seem to be cut bigger these days as well. I love shopping in my local high street stores, but can rarely find anything I'm actually able to purchase because it's all oversized or cropped and oversized which is even worse

VerityPJohnson · 27/03/2022 19:33

Polyester
Big sleeves
Oversized and baggy things
Unflattering necklines
High waists
Too short tops and jumpers
Pastels (already)
Clompy boots

runningfromreality · 27/03/2022 19:36

Polyester dresses that cost silk prices - looking at you, Whistles.

My main bugbear at the moment though is viscose. I bought lots of lovely blouses and midi dresses in viscose and they have literally shrunk and twisted into teensy, crunchy misshapen versions of themselves. I always wash them at 20 on a delicates wash and it still happens. Should be against any fit for purpose consumer rights act as you can only wear them a few times.

Likewise knitwear - I've basically given up on it as a genre as it never lasts, apart from merino wool which is bombproof and looks smart for at least a whole season.

SoManyTshirts · 27/03/2022 19:44

Three-quarter length fitted sleeves. I’d like my sleeves to finish at my rather bony wrists or else be loose enough to drape.

It’s saved me a lot of money on Dresses I Decided Not to Buy.

This.
Even jaeger went down this hole. And baukjen, jigsaw, etc.
Just no.

Definitely ridiculous sleeves
High waisted jeans can just do one , they come up to my rib cage and make even flat tummies look rounded.
All synthetic fabric can actually f**k off immediately.
Having to dress like a teenager because the world has forgotten anyone over 25
Fugly shoes
Gingham- it's for school dresses

Flyinggeese1234 · 27/03/2022 20:03

@WannaBeCool

Fuck polyester. Every time I see a pair of trousers or shirt I like it's always nasty polyester. Nice dresses that are flimsy and clingy poly. My work shirt and trousers are polyester and I sweat my tits off in it. Vile.
Agreed! Fed up of it.
greyinganddecaying · 27/03/2022 20:15

I'm fed up with my weird body shape that means I need either stretchy clothes or size up & tops look like tents!

Tops are either too short (long torso), too tight on arms (fat arms) or have the wrong neckline (rounded/crew neck are my nemesis)

Only things I'm happy with are stretchy trousers (my stomach is disproportionately enormous) and trainers.

Also I'm sick of garish patterns everywhere.

This is interesting- I’ve love the drape of viscose and never had it shrunk before. Which brands are the culprits here?
Redeyed · 27/03/2022 20:29

I hate trainer socks that constantly slip straight off.

The hideous materials, patterns and frills.

And the fact I can find a pair of pyjamas with pockets much easier than a pair of trousers.

I want timeless, well cut pieces, but might as well ask for the moon on a stick.

MargosKaftan · 27/03/2022 20:31

That stupid sleeve trend feels like a covid thing. Because look good at home, but you don't want to wear to work now you have to put a coat over the top (or even cardie) to get to / from work, those sleeves are unforgiving of the "but its raining and I need to get my mac over the top" issue. Hopefully the "doesn't work on the commute" problem will mean they die a death shortly. Only want sleeves that work with a coat unless its 25° + - and then probably dont want long sleeves.

RunnerDown · 27/03/2022 20:37

My legs are very short. I don’t want to make them look even shorter by rolling up my jeans to leave a gap between the top of my trainers and the bottom of my trousers.
I love trainers - so comfy. Im beginning to slightly cope with buying straight leg jeans rather than skinnies. But then it’s all ruined by the stumpy leg effect

CraftyBugger · 27/03/2022 20:54

@Coniferhedge I'm late 20s size 8-10 and still don't want people to see my belly unless I'm at the beach. It's even worse when you see people walking round in tops that I can only call a sports bra.

Fritilleries · 27/03/2022 21:11

Dresses and white trainers. Pretty much every mummy was wearing this combo in a restaurant I was at. So uninspiring.
