@ToastCosILoveIt I have the wool/cotton gingham top and wore it for the first time today, love it. The sleeves are indeed super puffy and I wore it with a massively flared long skirt; my daughter said that I looked like I was in some obscure national costume but I chose to ignore her. I'm a Toast 8 and it fitted just fine.

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/03/2022 20:52

@billydilly, ooh that sounds simply beautiful. I am looking forward to getting mine.

Saurus72 · 15/03/2022 21:20

@Laska2Meryls sorry I missed your post. Yes you’re right, mine is the same shape as the harlequin dress. The fabric is really lovely so fingers crossed the one you bought looks good. If it isn’t lined (the Luna isn’t) you’ll need a black slip underneath as it’s pretty sheer.

SmaugMum · 16/03/2022 10:23

Klaxon! Some pieces at 70 per cent off on JL site NOW!

TerrierOrTerror · 16/03/2022 10:38

@faustina have dropped you a message.

JL site is not opening half of the product pages my end. Good for my bank balance!

AFingerofFudge · 16/03/2022 12:45

@SmaugMum was there anything interesting? I only saw the two cord dresses!

faustina · 16/03/2022 13:13

@AFingerofFudge I also saw.a navy wool funnel necked pullover

goldenshoe · 16/03/2022 13:47

I've been having the occasional lurk on these threads since the start as a long time Toast fan, and since my finger is hovering over the order button I thought I'd say hello!

Although I never get enough of a chance to wear pretty clothes lately, I don't think I can resist the Seersucker Check Cotton Dress that's just come in (thank you to Laska2Meryls for linking to that - I've been refreshing everyday to see if it was in stock yet!). I can't tell if I like the sleeves in the photographs, it looks like they might be a bit puffy for me but I love it otherwise so shall give it a try and keep my fingers crossed.

I'm also dithering over a pair of sunglasses, but every time I've ordered sunglasses online I've had to send them back. I think I must have a weird nose!

FiddleFigs · 16/03/2022 14:25

London-based (or frequenting) Toast shoppers, is any one store better than the others?

I have a midweek birthday coming up, so planning a quiet day of pottering around the shops and can't decide between Marylebone or Notting Hill.

faustina · 16/03/2022 15:02

This picture doesn't really show the full awfulness of these trousers. They're supposed to be an 8 which they really aren't, but also one leg is somehow twisted, so when you move it goes in a different direction to the rest of the trousers. I've never seen anything like it before!

Apologies for the weird light - something to do with the Sahara

Toasties - Springing on ...
faustina · 16/03/2022 15:03

Forgot to mention! They're the alix gingham trousers!

applecatchers36 · 16/03/2022 16:20

Faustina not good at all...

Such a mystery why they get some things so very right and other things so peculiar and wrong! Like a perverse kind of gambling...

faustina · 16/03/2022 16:35

it's just such a waste of everyone's time - and money. They paid for delivery and will pay for the return when I take it to the post office tomorrow. It seems to be happening more frequently too - so silly and pointless!

Countmeout · 16/03/2022 16:55

That’s disappointing @faustina. Those particular ones seem to be problematic.

That’s a lovely dress @goldenshoe. Would love to hear how you find it on.

I go to London about once a year @FiddleFigs. the Marylebone shop is lovely but I believe the Nottinghill one has everything, although I’m not sure that’s in every size. There’s lots of other lovely shops near the Marylebone too though.

Saurus72 · 16/03/2022 16:55

@faustina it almost looks like one leg has been attached back to front 😬. Truly awful.

ScottishMouse · 16/03/2022 16:56

How frustrating @faustina. I hope at least you saw enough of the gingham Alix to decide that you prefer the brass ones?

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/03/2022 17:27

@FiddleFigs, I love the Marylebone store but, as @Countmeoutsays, I think the Nottinghill store may be bigger. The Toast shops I frequent are all small - Islington, Hampstead, Marylebone and Cambridge. I also went to the Kings Road a few weeks ago and that was small too. They can be very limited in the sizes they have available in store so if you have your heart set on trying something perhaps ring ahead?

The Tangram dress is going back. I ordered a 10 and am a busty 12 (high street). It fitted well apart from a minute pull between one of the buttons at the bust line. However, when I put it on it didn't flatter my colouring (pale and blonde). It is also fairly roomy below the waist. It is going back.

The gingham cotton wool top also arrived in a 10 and a 12: the 10 is good and I will wear it with jeans, cropped black trousers and the black playsuit from last autumn.

They did sent me a lovely silk neckerchief in navy (black?), khaki and rust which I am wearing now with the micro gingham jumpsuit from last summer. It is very nice.

ScottishMouse · 16/03/2022 17:43

@ToastCosILoveIt, can you tell me more about the gingham wool top. Is it at all itchy (one of the reviews says this)? Have you tried the dress version, does it fit like the top half of that? I tried the dress and found it overwhelming but have wondered many times about the top.
Would love to see a photo if you be happy to show us.

lordloveadog · 16/03/2022 18:13

Tempted to try to seersucker dress but the sleeves look suspiciously puffy.

Has anyone tried the gingham cotton shirt dress?

ScottishMouse · 16/03/2022 18:15

Is that the blue one @lordloveadog? I tried it. It was really nice on. Size wise, I tried a small, which would be my normal Toast size, and that fit well.

ScottishMouse · 16/03/2022 18:15

I also thought that about the sleeves on the seersucker one. The neck also looks too low for my liking.

lordloveadog · 16/03/2022 18:21

Mouse yes, blue checks. In that case I think I'll try it.

Low v is good on me, wide shoulders and large bust.

But puff sleeves no

faustina · 16/03/2022 18:31

@Saurus72 - I don't know anything about dressmaking, but now you've said that, it sounds exactly as it felt!

@ScottishMouse - If no 6 in the gingham appears between now and tomorrow, I will be keeping the brass pair. The only reason I was interested in the gingham was that it's 100% cotton so slightly less of a summer trouser and more of a replacement for the indigo twill. Mind you, we have wall to wall sunshine forecast for the next five days straight so I might just wear the brass ones!

If anyone's interested, there's a really nice looking black cotton dress on Kin, also some black sandals for an absolute bargain (£19 I think). I tried them last year and would have kept if they hadn't been a bit too big

faustina · 16/03/2022 18:38

Jacquard dress

Toasties - Springing on ...
faustina · 16/03/2022 18:41

oh what a wierd rip off - the sandals are only reduced in size 3. Not in any other size!
