@ScottishMouse sorry for rubbish pic - they fit beautifully! At 5'4 I'm not used to anything cropped actually being cropped on me! They are a completely different size to the indigo twill, that's for sure. I've ordered the gingham pair to compare. The colour is beautiful but they're very expensive so I want to be absolutely sure I love them

They look great @faustina. The ones I was sent were longer than all my other Alix trousers! The inconsistency drives me mad. I’m going to try another pair at some point to see if I can hit the jackpot.
Has anyone tried the grey alpaca cotton jerkin? I saw someone wearing it yesterday, and it looked great. I had ignored it up to now as I felt it wasn’t very exciting.

faustina · 12/03/2022 15:45

do try another pair @ScottishMouse - honestly I have two pairs of Alix (and another which I ebayed) and I've always had to turn them up. Unless of course it's me who hit the jackpot and they're supposed to be much longer...

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2022 15:50

Do you find the waist to be smaller than your other Alix trousers @faustina? That was really the problem with mine, the length I can live with.

faustina · 12/03/2022 15:53

@ScottishMouse - yes it's a lot smaller! Everywhere is smaller by about two sizes!

Laska2Meryls · 12/03/2022 17:01

They look good Faustina..
Oh but Toast sizing 🤦‍♀️.. So in Alix I have 10s and 8s ( I am really a 12 in most other brands) .. I m not about to order any new Alix , but I dont know what id need if I were to then..

The. Space trousers ( I have been wearing those all day btw) are an XS, ( which is also mad sizing as they are pretty huge) And my new pecan ones a 10 ..

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 12/03/2022 17:25

They look lovely @faustina , a really good length on you.

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2022 17:26

@faustina, I see you (I think!) are selling your indigo Alix on eBay. I might be interested. Could you measure the waistband for me (unstretched, all the way around)? And how much would you like for them?

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2022 17:27

Yes, I tried the space check trousers @Laska2Meryls, and they were enormous. Why such crazily inconsistent sizes? It surely means they get far more returns than they would if sizing was consistent.

faustina · 12/03/2022 18:07

Thanks everybody - it's such a novelty for me to find trousers so short! The sizing is mad. Imagine if you had to pay for returns? It would be very unfair. Also wasteful for everyone - Toast included!

Yes @ScottishMouse - I'll do it tomorrow and pm you. I was waiting til the brass arrived before ebaying!

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2022 18:15

Thanks @faustina! Just want to make sure they are the same size as my old indigo ones (given all the chat about inconsistent sizing!).

Countmeout · 12/03/2022 19:44

Both trousers look great @Laska2Meryls and @faustina. My black Alix are that length @faustina . Maybe I should have ordered 3 sizes instead of 2 if they’re smaller though. According to tracking mine are due Monday but that probably means Tuesday.

I’ve given up all hope of a dress I like this year and bought one on eBay. It’s the Iria which is cut like the Tala which I love. Only difference I think is that the belt is sewn on. Has anyone detached the belt on it?

faustina · 12/03/2022 19:56

@Countmeout - honestly, they're so much smaller than any of my other Alixes. Hopefully one of your pairs will work for you!

There was a new dress on Facebook just now - with a check I think? They seem to be adding quite a lot

AFingerofFudge · 12/03/2022 20:04

Sorry I have dropped off the thread as have been busy this last week. I'm currently in Ireland for a family funeral, (for anyone who doesn't know, funerals happen fast here). From when I got the news it was around 12 hours until I packed and left the house for the flight. I packed very quickly, in went the slate Alix, the new gingham Alix and a black checked dress I bought a couple of years ago in a sale at JL. All have been worn.

Saurus72 · 13/03/2022 15:18

Not sure how many of us are close to London but I just spotted this on Instagram: www.instagram.com/p/CbCcf6wAWpM/?utm_medium=copy_link

Great about proceeds going to Ukraine. Not sure if I will go - I’m going to the Kilver Court outlet store on Saturday so it depends if/what I buy there. It’s quite tempting though.

TheChattyRat · 13/03/2022 15:26

Oh I can’t read the post (not in instagram) - where and when is it? Is it an archive sale? I may be interested enough to make the journey - tho the scrum like nature of these things puts me off.

faustina · 13/03/2022 15:33

from Facebook:
SAMPLE SALE · Ukraine Fundraiser

Community is at the heart of every facet of TOAST. We believe that people should be treated with fairness and thoughtfulness, and we are always looking for ways to meaningfully support global communities. We hope we can, in our small way, support urgent action and ongoing initiatives to help provide vital aid and services to those still in and fleeing Ukraine.

Join us for a sample sale at TOAST Mayfair on Fri 1 and Sat 2 April. All proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser set up by Choose Love, to help provide emergency medical care, food, shelter, clothes, legal support, support for the LGBTQIA+ community and mental health support.

We have donated £6,000 of revenue from our events programme to the emergency Ukraine appeal set up by CARE, to support projects that are providing vital aid. Going forward, we will donate all revenue generated from our events programme to Choose Love. We continue to consider how we can offer long-term support.

Fri 1 April, 11am - 6pm.
Sat 2 April, 10am - 5pm.

faustina · 13/03/2022 15:38

it's quite tempting for me too, except that is the ONE weekend when there are quite a lot of things happening here. I might try to go on the Friday depending on timings though.
I've never been to a Toast sample sale before - went to a Grenson one once and that was quite civilised (and incredibly cheap!)

Saurus72 · 13/03/2022 15:45

Thanks @faustina for making that accessible, I didn’t realise you had to be signed in to see the link. The only sample sales I’ve been to were Orla Kiely over 15 years ago - I worked in a small company and we all used to take the afternoon off and go along! Massive bargains. The other I’ve been to is Ally Capellino when she shares community centre space with other small companies, just off Redchurch St. Again, really good bargains - I’ve bought numerous bags over the years, plus knitwear from Jo Gordon. Haven’t been for a few years to that one as my taste kind of changed and I didn’t really use her bags any more - most have been ebayed.

Saurus72 · 13/03/2022 15:49

Also to add, both were civilised but you had to be on your game! For Ally Capellino I used to get there first thing, about 90 minutes before opening time with a coffee and a book, and it was fine. So for the 11am opening time on the Friday I would probably am to get there around 9-ish.

faustina · 13/03/2022 16:00

yes, I think first thing is a necessity at these sales. I used to love Ally Capellino too - I spent most of a term's student grant on one of her skirts in the early eighties - still; have it! She's just done a collab with Barbour which is a bit strange looking (not sure about the buckles)

Saurus72 · 13/03/2022 16:12

Yes saw that Barbour collab - nothing compelling for me.

Whichever way it goes (all of my allocated budget spent or no luck) it still feels like a good morning at a sample sale - you’ve either got brilliant bargains and are happily poor or have avoided fomo and still have money left. The thing for me is I will need to take Friday off work, will wait until after this weekend to decide.

ScottishMouse · 13/03/2022 16:38

That sample sale sounds great. I wish I wasn’t a squillion miles from London. I often see those Ally Capellino & Jo Gordon ones advertised and feel a pang of being left out up here.

ScottishMouse · 13/03/2022 16:42

I have spent the afternoon doing some sewing, including putting new (longer) elastic in my cotton cashmere check Alix trousers so that they fit my ever expanding waist. It was a bit of a risk, as I wasn’t sure it would work, but it worked perfectly! I can now wear them and breathe too, which is a novelty. I’m thinking I might do it to my cotton linen ones now too.
