This is the dress I bought. Apparently going to be in shops around June?

And current season, the only thing I am lusting after are these sandals but at £245 there is no way!!!!

mizu · 29/04/2022 18:57

@mizu Your dress! Not brown, with sleeves, looks like it could fit the brief! So this will be part of the summer drop you think? Well I could be saved then - though now regretting not going to the sample sale 🙃

ilovecherries · 29/04/2022 19:13

We are away in the caravan atm. Re-reading Devorgilla Bay which gonegrey recommended to me last year when we stayed here. Not often I re-read a book but this one is rather lovely. I am limited in what I can take with me, and transitional weather can still mean very cold days in Scotland so space had to be found for wet and cold weather gear as well. However, I am wearing the micro gingham dress from last year with the grey alpaca cardigan from the winter sale and feeling rather pleased with myself. Have wafted quite a lot in it.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/04/2022 19:19

@mizu I really hope it's something that gets resolved, I hate posting from my phone.

ilovecherries · 29/04/2022 19:27

and wtf are they doing with cookie consent on iPad as well. It pops up literally every 5secs.

TerrierOrTerror · 01/05/2022 10:50

A quick heads up to those that love the style of Gabi's but just can't get them to fit, I bought a pair of VERY similar looking trousers from H&M yesterday for under £20. I love Gabi's but they are too long on me and I am also in between sizes drastically (I need a 12 to fit my thighs but the waist is then huge).

The H&M ones are denim material but not too stiff, available in white and stone (which is what I have). Comfortable elastic waist with the addition of a zip and button and decent pockets. I had to roll up once to get a cropped look, Gabi's had to go up four times which made them too bulky.

On Toast stuff there's a few dresses I have my eye on for sales, won't pay full price for them. I love brown tones so for me the current collection would be ok, but I don't love yellows (unless it is mustard).

Snowyowl78 · 01/05/2022 11:17

That’s a handy tip re. Gabis! When do people think the sale will be? I really want a jacket but it’s v expensive so debating whether to hold out for the sale but I’m nervous it will sell out in my size!

Snowyowl78 · 01/05/2022 11:20

I wonder if it won’t be until mid June, that’s when it was last year

So was passing the time browsing some past videos on the Toast website and really giggled when I saw these people standing in this building. At first glance, they looked like actors from a historical drama. I really do wonder about the styles of Toast sometimes. Anyone else see this?

Just caught up with the past live videos.
I love Merchant and Mills and the M&M designs they were wearing really showed the Toast ones up 😬
I would love it if M&M got involved and we could see some properly designed and fitted garments.

The black dresses looked fine [ If that was the M&M designs you mean]. It was just them altogether game the look when I first watched, a kind of stage set look.
I really did not like the tiered dress she was wearing but I actually have it but in blue from last year I think. I really thought it looked awful with the puffy blouse. She looked as though she was under swathes of fabric.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/05/2022 13:49

gave not game

Yes the black dresses were M&M and also what the chap was wearing.
Also the nicely fitted garments interspersed with the Toast were M&M.

Ugh it looked absolutely dreadful !
I also have it in the blue from last year and its a much neater cut and nicer fabric.
I cringed a bit as the Toast lady was completely out of her depth and again M&M know their stuff.
Get them on board Toast !

Countmeout · 01/05/2022 18:11

I liked the M and M coat but I found the other items a bit severe and plain for my taste. I don’t think I’d buy that type of thing from Toast if they did stock them.
Not sure what size the presenter was but her outfit was quite oversized. I wouldn’t have paired it with that blouse either.

Hoping for some new stuff this week before the video on the 12 th.

ilovecherries · 01/05/2022 18:37

Just went back and watched that video. It all felt a bit awkward really. I quite like the tiered dress but I would style it differently. Although the blue one from last year didn’t suit me at all. All I needed to finish the look was a roll of Andrex under it.

Im trying to work out the Andrex reference 😅
The bit where the Toast lady asked how they incoporated scrap fabric into the designs and M&M lady replied sharply we dont, we concentrate on the style/ design -words to that effect.
Excess fabrics are sold in the shop as remnants.
Made me wince 😬 but its true, toast play at this and its annoying.
Where do they use excess fabric?
They make their designs too big !
Ive just been to Seasalt and got some very nice heavy cream trousers.
They use their scrap fabric to make hair scrunchies and masks.
Minimal waste.
Had a quick squiz in the toast shop.
No sign of anything new, unless you count a basket of brown socks😏

TosstTastic · 03/05/2022 07:38

I find Toast very guilty of greenwashing and hiding behind that to excuse poor attention to detail. It's part of their marketed brand rather than company culture.

Look at the labelling - my recent Toast garment arrived with plastic with one of those annoying tiny safety pins to hold the card & string label on the garment label.
Cos parcel had no sticky tape, accurately sized and the labeling was recycled paper string and no annoying tiny safety pin just a knot.

Countmeout · 03/05/2022 10:41

I can’t say I’ve had any plastic over the last two years from them and I love those wee pins. I’ve quite a collection.
I’m not very green though.

I see a new dress has crept onto the dresses page.

😂. Children of the 60s are probably familiar with the sindy-type dolls body with a voluminous (often knitted by granny out of scraps) skirt. The dolls legs were then crammed through the tube of the spare toilet roll so the skirt concealed the loo roll. It sat tastefully on top of the cistern so no one ever got offended by the sight of toilet roll.

TempleofZoom · 03/05/2022 16:45

Totally agree on the greenwashing although Ive not had any plastic.
Its excruciating in these live videos when its clearly " the script" and they have no idea what they are talking about.
@Countmeout I love the pins also, knitter and sewer here. They are useful as stitch markers as they are the bulb type .
Ive got lots 100s

Haha @ilovecherries Got it now!
Im a child of the 60s also and I know what you mean but didnt find that dress so flouncy but Im tall.

MrsCat1 · 04/05/2022 10:56

There are some new things appearing on the website. Some nice things but Toast's obsession with brown seems to be continuing! (Apologies to all those who suit brown - it looks awful on me!)

ScottishMouse · 04/05/2022 11:52

Yup. Too much brown (and I say that as someone who quite likes brown), and too much poplin (I know there are lots of poplin lovers here but I can’t stand the noise it makes!).

alliscalm · 04/05/2022 12:14

I haven’t posted for ages but just watched the Toast/MM video. I couldn’t really see the point of it unless they are thinking of doing a collaboration. That would be exciting to me although MM fabric is pricy. I’ve made a few MM patterns including a pinafore dress which is very close to a Toast design, using denim from a local shop.

However, my sewing skills don’t stretch to tailoring and after months of procrastination I bought a Hal jacket last week. Beautiful fit and I love it. But the buttonholes are fraying and one of the buttons fell off after one wear (luckily in my house because they only supply one spare). I am so disappointed as I thought Toast prices would equate to quality.

Countmeout · 04/05/2022 12:22

Oh blooming heck there’s a few things I like. But agree about sooo much brown.
