@Countmeout

Thank all for the sundress love. She also suggested the check nightdress as a sundress which looks lovely and is the same style but I feared seersucker might look too nightie like what do you think? It’s beautifully styled in the video with the tee shirt she has underneath it.

Great minds and all that @SirSidneyRuffDiamond, I have bought a Next version of the sandals in tan although they come in black.

Now that I getting into wearing nightwear out someone has commented on the reviews that the red (?) pj trousers could be worn as summer trousers. Wonder if any of you have them. I tried the tile print trousers last year but they were too baggy for my liking? Wondering if these are the same.

I know it’s annoying the shops have so little @Theteapotsbrokenspout. Nottinghill is supposed to have everything I read some time ago but not sure if that applies to sizes. It’s always really helpful to see things in the flesh for I know I’ve thought I loved things in the past and then have been drawn in the flesh to something completely surprising.

Here’s the Next sandals

I didnt try the red pyjama trousers on but they were a nice weight of crisp cotton -I saw them when buying the dress. They were sort of normal pyjama style !
Theteapotsbrokenspout · 14/04/2022 20:49

That sounds awful @FiddleFigs not the sort of experience you expect at all at Toast. At least they were chatty and reasonably helpful with me, although I’m not sure they were very happy when I mentioned I had actually been looking for the Marylebone store.

AFingerofFudge · 14/04/2022 22:46

Evening all.
I'm supposed to be going to Amsterdam on Monday for a few days with the fam (I say supposed as I have a bad throat and not feeling a 100%. I still haven't had "that which must not be named" and so I'm hoping to continue testing negative!) it was booked over 2 years ago.
Anyhow, I digress. Normally when I go on a city break type thing I wear joggers and sensible trainers as we tend to walk a lot. But then I saw on Instagram (yes I know comparison is the thief of joy Grin) a friend has been in Paris and she swanned around in dresses and looked very chic. So I wondered if I too should embrace the European chic and take a couple of Toast dresses (complete with chub rub shorts) or should I play it sensibly?
I'm not feeling my best weight wise, have put on over a stone this last year, so it's hard to dress up a bit when you're feeling flabby. But maybe that's what I need to do to help me feel a bit better about myself.....
Anyhow, I need to keep testing negative to even have this dilemma!

ilovecherries · 14/04/2022 23:18

Oh no fudge, fingers crossed. I also haven’t had The Thing yet although I’m about last one standing. I’m really just waiting for the axe to fall as well and every time I feel tired or washed out I think ‘this time’.

I do quite like dresses for wandering about (as long as it’s not raining) and I have a fine line in chub rub shorts. I also have no compunction about wearing trainers with visible socks though so I’m perhaps not the epitome of European chic you seek! Hope you get there, whatever you wear.

Btw, am also feeling very down about how I look just now and ended up picking a row with DH (who actually is very D to me) because he hadn’t told me my backside looked massive in a jumpsuit. I accidentally caught sight of my rear view in a shop and was horrified. I do think generally though that making an effort when you feel down about how you look does perk you up. And I looked great from the front and side - it was only the back that was problematic. So I am now pondering the existential question of ‘is my arse is huge and I can’t see it, is it really huge?’

Countmeout · 15/04/2022 07:56

Thank you @TempleofZoom. I don’t normally wear pyjamas and was hoping the legs might be narrow ish. And slightly cropped like my Gabis but lighter weight.

TempleofZoom · 15/04/2022 08:31

@Countmeout

Thank you *@TempleofZoom*. I don’t normally wear pyjamas and was hoping the legs might be narrow ish. And slightly cropped like my Gabis but lighter weight.
They were cropped but the legs arent narrow but not flappy wide either.

They are the sort of thing that could be worn as loungewear or popping to the local shop/ beach but they dont look trousery to me.

I saw the Striped Ikat Fisherman trousers and the fabric and style is lovely if you are looking for a soft pair of summer trousers.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/04/2022 09:13

I think it’s worth trying the dresses @AFingerofFudge , I usually find as long as my feet are comfortable for walking everything else falls into place. I tend to wear (snag) footless tights if it’s a bit on the cool side, I find them really good under skirt and dresses.

Interesting existential question @ilovecherries 🤔 .

applecatchers36 · 15/04/2022 09:30

fingeroffudge how lovely to be going to Amsterdam in spring time. Agree would be tempted to pack a dress as could be comfy and can always layer with a cardy if needed.

Ilovecherries sorry to hear about arguments with DH. Jumpsuits can be so comfy/easy to wear but definitely have a utilitarian look. My young niece asked why I was wearing a babygro once when wearing one 😂...think it's the lack of a defined waist that perhaps doesn't help...

Saurus72 · 15/04/2022 10:18

@AFingerofFudge fingers crossed you can go. I live in dresses about 90% of the time, I find them really easy and comfy, especially Toast ones with pockets for snacks. Completely relate, I’ve gained about the same amount of weight during covid. Dresses are pretty forgiving imo - what’s your shoe situation? I usually wear flat sandals, I have an obsession with knowing I can walk for miles without blisters/ pain. Lucky you going to Amsterdam, it’s really beautiful.

TempleofZoom · 15/04/2022 10:23

Oh dear @ilovecherries
Do you think there would have been less of a row if he had pointed it out? 😬
Personally Ive stopped thinking about my body in those terms.
No part of it is wrong.
Its what it is.

Laska2Meryls · 15/04/2022 12:19

Shop window reflections are always wrong anyway..
I keep seeing this old fat miserable face woman a bit like my gran walking down the street in shop windows...
I know that's not me!.. they do it just so you go in and buy new stuff..

I have ordered the pecan fine striped shirt as a 14 came back in , but it will probably be too big as my blue one is a 12 ..
Am still stalking a smaller one ..

Doh, meant to say something! Got these trousers and they are a fabulous fit. Super flattering. Toast are great with trousers these days. Rest of the stuff I’m struggling with.

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2022 14:13

@JustforToast, I love the look of these, but as Toast’s fixed waist trousers never work for me (no hips, no discernible waist), I discounted them. Some of the reviews suggest they might be bigger on the waist than some styles though. How do you find the fit on the waist compared to other Toast trousers?

I am very straight up and down, and have a tummy and these are great. I took a size 10 and the waist is just right. I am a toast 8 in their coats and dresses.

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2022 18:48

Thanks @JustforToast, they sound like they might be worth a try so.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2022 15:50

Had a potter about my local store today and tried on some things.
The trousers that @JustforToast mentioned didn’t work for me. Slightly too tight on the waist in an 8, but the 10 would have been huge elsewhere. They are lovely though.
I tried the space check dress, but it was ridiculously long. They also had a shirt in the same fabric, which I hadn’t noticed online. It may be the same as the copper colour linen shirt. A bit swingy and a-line, which I don’t love, but the colour totally drained me too.
I tried and bought the brown cardigan with the shorter sleeve. It’s a lovely shape and will go will lots that I own. I went for a small (my normal Toast knitwear size), but I could have gone down to an xs for a more fifties fitted look.
Generally I was a bit underwhelmed. The colours this season are quite an odd mix and I find it hard to look past some of the ones I really don’t like to find things in colours that do appeal.
I didn’t see anything else new or interesting. Also nothing much on the Toast circle rail sadly.

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/04/2022 20:37

@ScottishMouse, i too had a look round my local Toast shop today. I went there to return the seersucker dress in a 10 and the square collar poplin dress in slate. i had a chat with the sales assistant about the square collar dress. Shs said she wears it back to front and it looks better on her.

I took the opportunity to try a couple of dresses on: thinking about the sale now more than paying full price for any more. The yellow glow garment dyed lined dress was better on than I thought it would be. There was only a small in store and while it fitted, I think a medium would have been better. I wonder though if this would have pushed the arm holes into the wrong side of gaping.

I tried on the circle neck poplin dress in brown ochre just to be able to dismiss it but I actually liked it on in a 10. It is flattering and more attracctive than I would have thought. At £225 though, it is definitely one for the sale.

The fir check cotton dress is huge and fitted in an 8 except for pulling at the bust. It has a straight panel at the front without any pleating which makes it more fitted than it might otherwise look.

I went in for a teeshirt and the cotton easy tee in coal doesn't disappoint. It does come up super large and so the small was plenty big enough on my size 12 frame. It's drape and the neckline and sleeves are really stylish. I liked it so much that I bought the rust colour too which is brighter and more orange in the flesh.

I looked at the Fracap Ola sandals from afar: they did look lovely but I didn't try them on.

Sausageandeggs · 18/04/2022 23:16

Hey everyone. I was wondering what the sizing and quality is like on either the Emma half sleeve tees (organic or not), the linen tees (boy fit I think they are?) and the granddad tops?

I tend to be medium in their knitwear. I don’t want anything too fitted. Any pics would be especially helpful! Thanks

Nanasueathome · 19/04/2022 08:08

@Nanasueathome

I’ve given in and ordered the gathered pinafore wrap dress in nasturtium I had gift vouchers for my recent birthday and Mother’s Day and still have spare I’m getting a kindred free gift too
Well, the pinafore dress came and it is absolutely gorgeous Very flowy and with a silky sheen Definitely a keeper The free gift is a bandana scarf. Not really my thing but I’ll show my daughter and see if she’s interested. If not, one of you can have it
AFingerofFudge · 19/04/2022 10:55

Glad you've had success with the pinafore @Nanasueathome !

Well, I can report I'm currently on the way to Amsterdam and there's not one pair of joggers with me! I am sitting on the Eurostar in my lime checked cotton dress I bought in the sale in December. Very flowy and long! I have packed an Oxford Cotton Dress in a burgundy colour from a couple of years ago, a pair of Alix just in case I'm missing trousers too much, and a Kemi Telford skirt and t-shirt. So a big change for me! I'm hoping I look suitably cosmopolitan as I sip on my coffee in a chic cafe!

applecatchers36 · 19/04/2022 11:33

Ah lovelyFingeroffudge have a great trip!

Your wardrobe sounds very stylish...

ilovecherries · 19/04/2022 15:08

That all sounds very stylish, fudge. Hope you have a lovely break. I’m always looking at kemi Telford but their issues with returns scare me off. What is it you have?

sausage I don’t have these particular tees but I do tend to size up one size in them as I like my tee son the sloppy side. I wear M in knitwear and L in tees unless they are described as oversized or very relaxed.
