A little update on shops for us Toasties. i was in the Shoreditch Toast yesterday and took the opportunity to try on the patchwork print poplin dress: the 12 was way too big on the skirt/hips and the 10 was way too tight on the bust with all of the buttons gaping hugely. It certainly put my quest for the dress to bed. The 10 would really suit someone who is normally a 12 but who has a very neat bust and narrower shoulders. The 12 would be better for someone who is a high street 12 but with wider hips/waist. It is a shame but I am rapidly discounting every new Toast dress this season on the grounds that I can't find the right fit for me. The cut of this dress is very similar to the cotton linen shirt dress which I also couldn't get to fit on the bust and on the hips although that one only just missed on the bust wherewas this one was even smaller (proportionately) on the bust.
I did pick up the ash check ruffle neck shirt which is lovely. A small more than suffices for a size 12 although the cut of it means that you could size up.
I also had a conversation with them about the seersucker cotton checked dress. Both of the sales assistants had the dress (but weren't wearing them that day) and said they are fab. On a conversation on sizing, they suggested i take my usual size 12. They said the Edinburgh store was showing a 12 and I did ring them this am and order over the phone. I have also ordered the 10 from online so that I can compare the two. They did suggest that there will be more stock of the dress online shortly.
I have also ordered the square collar poplin dress in slate in a 12. i had tried on the 10 in the montella but the colour was awful on me and the 10 was tight on the bust. One of the styling videos really made the dress look good though.
The menswear was looking good but my husband wasn't with me so no trying on. I am really keen on some of the trousers for him but I think he may find the dropped crotch difficult to wear as he isn't used to the gabis and the alix' as we are! He has the houndstooth check cotton shirt which he wears every weekend and I also have my eye on the camp collar seersucker workwear shirt for him which they had in store and which is definitely a spring or autumn shirt and not a summer shirt (fabric fairly heavy).
I will let you know how I get on when the orders arrive.
