@neveradullmoment99

Would love to see the dress in real life.
I’ve not managed to get to a Toast shop to see it but I’ve been watching it in my basket for some time (nearest shop is Cheltenham) Some of the sizes have sold out so I just had to go for it I’ve already received confirmation that it’s been sent out too
ToastCosILoveIt · 09/04/2022 11:55

A little update on shops for us Toasties. i was in the Shoreditch Toast yesterday and took the opportunity to try on the patchwork print poplin dress: the 12 was way too big on the skirt/hips and the 10 was way too tight on the bust with all of the buttons gaping hugely. It certainly put my quest for the dress to bed. The 10 would really suit someone who is normally a 12 but who has a very neat bust and narrower shoulders. The 12 would be better for someone who is a high street 12 but with wider hips/waist. It is a shame but I am rapidly discounting every new Toast dress this season on the grounds that I can't find the right fit for me. The cut of this dress is very similar to the cotton linen shirt dress which I also couldn't get to fit on the bust and on the hips although that one only just missed on the bust wherewas this one was even smaller (proportionately) on the bust.

I did pick up the ash check ruffle neck shirt which is lovely. A small more than suffices for a size 12 although the cut of it means that you could size up.

I also had a conversation with them about the seersucker cotton checked dress. Both of the sales assistants had the dress (but weren't wearing them that day) and said they are fab. On a conversation on sizing, they suggested i take my usual size 12. They said the Edinburgh store was showing a 12 and I did ring them this am and order over the phone. I have also ordered the 10 from online so that I can compare the two. They did suggest that there will be more stock of the dress online shortly.

I have also ordered the square collar poplin dress in slate in a 12. i had tried on the 10 in the montella but the colour was awful on me and the 10 was tight on the bust. One of the styling videos really made the dress look good though.

The menswear was looking good but my husband wasn't with me so no trying on. I am really keen on some of the trousers for him but I think he may find the dropped crotch difficult to wear as he isn't used to the gabis and the alix' as we are! He has the houndstooth check cotton shirt which he wears every weekend and I also have my eye on the camp collar seersucker workwear shirt for him which they had in store and which is definitely a spring or autumn shirt and not a summer shirt (fabric fairly heavy).

I will let you know how I get on when the orders arrive.

Not a Toast dress but I am (normally) a huge Toast fan. So for those of you looking for a dress, this is so lovely on and great quality

I’ve been looking at the belted version of that dress @JustforToast Do you have it / if so what’s the sizing like, I haven’t had anything from Me+Em for years.

ToastCosILoveIt · 09/04/2022 22:40

@JustforToast, that is indeed a great dress.

I’m a Toast 8 for toast dresses and I’ve taken an 8 in the meandem dress. Their sizing is inconsistent but I love the fit of this dress
AFingerofFudge · 10/04/2022 08:35

@ToastCosILoveIt what did you think of the actual material on the patchwork poplin dress? Didn't you think it was a bit anorak- like?? Grin

Countmeout · 10/04/2022 08:54

Did anyone watch the nightwear and loungewear video? I’ve ordered the triangle nightdress to see if it would work as she suggested as a sundress. Will report once it arrives. Hopefully not see through.

MrsCat1 · 10/04/2022 16:08

Hello Toasties. I bought the poplin shirt the other day. It is lovely fabric and a nice deep blue. Recommended.

www.toa.st/collections/womens-shirts/products/poplin-patch-pocket-shirt-mid-blue

I also received a Kindred gift. The silk scarf in navy, olive and coral. It is lovely but it's really not my colours and so I won't wear it. Would anyone like it? Happy to post it on. No charge. Don't like to see it sitting there unloved. If you would like it just message me.

Has anyone tried the garment dyed linen sundress? I would be interested to hear any reports.

ToastCosILoveIt · 10/04/2022 18:59

@AFingerofFudge, it is certainly a very sturdy poplin fabric. I would have bought the dress however, if it had fitted me.

There was also a spagheti strap sundress in store - in cream background with a pattern on it (like small drawings): I didn't look closer as it isn't my style.

ToastCosILoveIt · 14/04/2022 08:42

My seersucker check cotton big sleeve dresses have arrived: a 10 and a 12. There appears to be almost no difference in the sizing, the 10 just a tad smaller but i could get away with either. I am undecided as to whether or not to keep one or neither. I can confirm that both are low at the front and show the beginnings of the cleavage.

I also ordered the square collar poplin dress in navy. I am not 100% sure on it so I expect that it will go back. It is the 12, having tried on the 10 whch was very tight on the bust. This one is only just big enough on the bust. The collar is an unusual neckline but it does show the bra quite a bit under the arms.

AmethystMoonShine · 14/04/2022 09:31

I do like that seersucker dress @ToastCosILoveIt. Your review of the square collar dress reminded me that I often send back Toast dresses because the arm holes are huge and low and the world would see my side bra….and more probably. Annoying when the dress is otherwise good. Think Toast design for those with minimally boob? I’m not busty but I do have a need for a bra… especially as I get older Grin

Countmeout · 14/04/2022 10:17

My triangle nightdress/sundress has arrived. I am keeping it to wear as a sundress. Well done to Siobhan in the Toast video for suggesting this. Hopefully no one on holiday will know it’s a nightie. It’s lovely and light for warm weather. It fits nicely imo I also can wear a tee underneath. I think I would wear it as a sundress at home too although I might not venture out of the garden in it. The colours are quite vintage a definite cream background. Has pockets!! I don’t think it’s see through.

That looks great @Countmeout!
I have had a lot going on and hadn’t checked in lately, but I see it has been pretty quiet here. Have some time to myself coming up over the next few days, so might go for a mooch about the Edinburgh store, though I don’t really have my eye on anything. Perhaps the new alpaca cardigan with the shorter sleeve, has anyone bought/tried it? I have a Circle token burning a hole in my purse, would love to find something to trade it for. Will report back on anything interesting.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 14/04/2022 11:13

That looks really good as a sundress @Countmeout .

I made my first visit to an actual Toast shop in years, I was aiming for Marylebone but my app sent me to Dering St. I was a bit underwhelmed by what was on offer, I don't really like any of the current dresses and not much else caught my eye.
I tried on the Cotton Hemp Panel trousers but they didn't really suit me (and an enormous difference between the 10 and 12) , I loved the flat front denim trousers but they were far too long for me - I will consider getting those and altering them. I ended up only buying the Gabis in Loden.
Unfortunately it was only a flying visit to London and I unexpectedly had time to go shopping, I think I need to plan a proper visit so I've got more time to look properly - and hopefully there will be new stock by then.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/04/2022 11:34

I've just received:

The Pleat Front Cotton Linen Trousers

and:

The Tie Neck Chambray Shirt

I love them both 😍. The trousers are a flattering shape on me and almost a barrel leg. I got these in a 10 and could have probably sized down but I wanted a relaxed look - they are a good spring/summer trouser. The shirt I got in an 8 and again it is slightly oversized, but not ridiculous. They look great together and DH commented that I look very stylish in them. He did neatly faint at the price though😱.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/04/2022 11:59

@Countmeout
That looks great as a sundress - and pockets too!!

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/04/2022 12:04

The trousers look good with my new Seasalt sandals which were a great price (just under £70) compared to the similar Toast ones.

ToastCosILoveIt · 14/04/2022 12:58

@AmethystMoonShine, that underarm gap is a real issue isn't it? I am busty but i still don't need it. It puts me off of their dresses.

@Countmeout, the dress looks fab.

@SirSidneyRuffDiamond, the chambrey shirt is a real winner and those sandals are lush.

@Theteapotsbrokenspout, my experience of Toast shops in recent years is that they have really streamlined their stock and often don't have the item or the size that you want.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 14/04/2022 13:51

@ToastCosILoveIt After online shopping for so long I just really wanted to get a feel for the fabrics and sizes, so it’s a disappointment if that’s going to be the case. I get fed up with constantly ordering and returning, especially since I had a quality problem with the space check shorts.

ilovecherries · 14/04/2022 14:31

We are away in the caravan, which means living in the Toast alpaca fairisle jumper and various colours of cord Gabi. Plan to return home next week for a few days and swap over to some warmer weather clothes for May.

Countmeout · 14/04/2022 15:15

Thank all for the sundress love. She also suggested the check nightdress as a sundress which looks lovely and is the same style but I feared seersucker might look too nightie like what do you think? It’s beautifully styled in the video with the tee shirt she has underneath it.

Great minds and all that @SirSidneyRuffDiamond, I have bought a Next version of the sandals in tan although they come in black.

Now that I getting into wearing nightwear out someone has commented on the reviews that the red (?) pj trousers could be worn as summer trousers. Wonder if any of you have them. I tried the tile print trousers last year but they were too baggy for my liking? Wondering if these are the same.

I know it’s annoying the shops have so little @Theteapotsbrokenspout. Nottinghill is supposed to have everything I read some time ago but not sure if that applies to sizes. It’s always really helpful to see things in the flesh for I know I’ve thought I loved things in the past and then have been drawn in the flesh to something completely surprising.

Here’s the Next sandals

applecatchers36 · 14/04/2022 17:25

Am also in our caravan I love cherries and been wearing my Toast jeans, PJ shirt and apple cardy on repeat. Looking forward to warmer days to get the dresses out!

FiddleFigs · 14/04/2022 18:00

I had rather a poor experience at Dering St this afternoon. I received a cold stare on arrival, was weirdly ignored while I was there - weird in the sense that there were no offers of help etc, but anything I touched or took out to look at was immediately hastily (and pointlessly) rearranged. I felt like I was a real bother.

There wasn't much there anyway, as @Theteapotsbrokenspout mentioned. I had wanted to try on the Linen Sun Dress, which I like very much in copper, but the only one out had lots of pulled threads, and the general atmosphere was so hostile, so I just left.

I think I'll stick to online in future.

Yes the stock seems to have been the same for ages and I was told they were trying not to waste when I asked about new stuff Confused I went into a London branch and got the Cotton/ Linen pinafore. Tbh its expensive for what it is but Ive worn my denim one so much. I sort of think of it as a house dress, I potter about, collect eggs and veg in the lovely deep pockets . So useful and functional.
