@Snowyowl78

What do Toast mean by a ‘dry hand feel’?! I have seen this a few times and have no idea what it means. I got the Slate Jersey Shirt in the post and I really like it even though it’s wildly expensive. Have ordered a L to check if better than the M but I’m going to wear it like a little jacket. I also ordered the crinkle cut check tops in Marigold and Slate but they’re going back as I didn’t feel they were particular flattering, they are nice though, if slightly stiff and boxy. Love the Dot Cotton scarfs!
@Snowyowl78, could you post a link to where it says ‘dry hand feel’ please?

I'd assume that it meant that the fabric felt dry like linen not slightly cold like bamboo

@KirstenBlest thanks for replying, here’s a couple of examples

Hand feel is a sewing term, it tells you what the fabric will feel like against your skin. So viscose might have a cool hand feel, or satin a slippery hand feel. I always think dry is an odd one to describe but I always think of it as dense and non slippy.

AFingerofFudge · 06/04/2022 09:02

I was in Cheltenham yesterday, so I called in to the Toast shop as I wanted to see the new Patchwork Print Poplin Dress. It had just been delivered so wasn't out on the shop floor, so they got one out of the bag for me.

First impression: it smelled
Second impression: the material was nothing like poplin. Apparently they're sourcing it from somewhere new. It was literally like a raincoat type feel, very plastic-y, you could scratch the surface and make a noise with it if you see what I mean. It was stiff. I tried it on anyway, but it was a no from me, my purse will thank me!

I also tried on the garment dyed linen sundress. It was a no. The boob area was ridiculous, I'd say unless you were an AA cup or perhaps an A then it will squash you.

Dry hand feel refers to the texture. Peachy rather than smooth. This is one of the reasons I dont like Cupro, the feel makes me shudder.
Snowyowl78 · 06/04/2022 09:10

Thanks @ilovecherries @KirstenBlest @TempleofZoom that clears it up!

Laska2Meryls · 06/04/2022 09:13

Has anyone tried the new striped ikat trousers?
Despite the fact that they are like some others I already have 🤦‍♀️...I keep looking at them .. wondering if they are 'usual' Toast size (so I can order the xs) or whether like the Alix they have changed the sizing and I should get the S or M

Thanks @Snowyowl78. @TempleofZoom put it more eloquently than I did. I don't like cupro, lyocell and tencel either. The feel, as you said, makes me shudder

I once ordered a kin poplin skirt. It was AWFUL. Fabric like plastic. I remember comparing it mentally to the beautiful poplin Toast does. Oh dear. Sounds like it's a cheap version. It was hideous. Stiff snd noisy. Not like the poplin I had experienced. I remember checking the label. I got the linen garment dyed tunic through today in parchment. Beautiful. Was a wee anniversary pressie from my dh. Love it. Got the medium. Wanted it loose. It is. It's really worth it. Bought the emma stripe with yellow in it. Ridiculous price and material is thinner. No doubt a out it but I love it. Boo...

It was returned.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/04/2022 11:07

I mean I returned the kin skirt.
I have kept the obscene priced emma half sleeve

Not only does it make me shudder but I find anything dry hand feel stains horrifically at even a splash. One drop of anything oily, even a clear liquid and its there forever. That sounds disappointing about the Patchwork dress, although the pattern placement was giving me the gip, given the price its shocking.
neveradullmoment99 · 06/04/2022 11:23

Oh yes. Staining is almost irreversible!

ToastCosILoveIt · 06/04/2022 14:22

@AFingerofFudge, was the poplin patchwork dress true to size or really big? Many thanks.

Snowyowl78 · 06/04/2022 16:19

@neveradullmoment99 I like both the new Emma’s but they are insanely priced, I hope to buy both in the sale! They prob won’t go on sale.

AFingerofFudge · 06/04/2022 17:02

@ToastCosILoveIt I tried on a size 14, I would normally say I'm a 12, but have put on nearly a stone this last 6 months (thanks peri-menopause) and it almost fitted perfectly but there wasn't much movement in the bust area. You may have to size up if you have a larger bust.

applecatchers36 · 06/04/2022 17:12

Love the colours in that Emma T neveradullmoment

ToastCosILoveIt · 06/04/2022 17:22

Thanks @AFingerofFudge, I am a 12 but busty.
@neveradullmoment99 I like both the new Emma’s but they are insanely priced, I hope to buy both in the sale! They prob won’t go on sale.
Im trying to justify it mentally like its the same as buying a skirt at that price.
I think they actually do tend to go in the sale. I was just worried I would miss out. I have to say that I got the other emma stripe in the sale[ the fine stripe under the denim pinafore on the Toast website with the beautiful fine green stripe in it. Think it was about £45. I could have waited but FOMO got me.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/04/2022 17:38

The material between both differs greatly. Its much more like a silkier cotton rather than slubby. Bit disappointing but the colours are so retro and unsual.

Snowyowl78 · 06/04/2022 18:24

@neveradullmoment99 oh I don’t blame you, if I didn’t already have loads of Emma’s I would too!

neveradullmoment99 · 06/04/2022 23:23

I have got quite a few too :) Mosty bought in the sale I must admit! I got quite a few linen ones in last summers sale. They are very flattering.

Nanasueathome · 07/04/2022 15:46

I’ve given in and ordered the gathered pinafore wrap dress in nasturtium
I had gift vouchers for my recent birthday and Mother’s Day and still have spare
I’m getting a kindred free gift too

Oooh lovely. Let us know what the Kindred gift is. I wonder if it is a new one? The scarf was the latest. Hope its something nice.
neveradullmoment99 · 07/04/2022 15:57

Would love to see the dress in real life.
