Well I counted when I went home and I have 10 😇. ( but have another on its way from eBay) Only since 2018 mind. Only 3 bought full price, the Lydia, the Falling Leaves and the Tala. Rest were sale or eBay. I get more wear out of summer ones than anything else.

ScottishMouse · 23/03/2022 20:10

I’m clearly not a dress person, as I only have 5. 3 bought in sales, and 1 (as yet unworn, I’m waiting for an occasion for it) from Toast circle. I really only wear dresses in summer, so I am looking forward to getting these out again soon.

TheChattyRat · 23/03/2022 20:24

Wow @ilovecherries you have taken the crown from @Saurus72 for most toast dresses. I may win on toast jumpsuits - I’ve got 5!

@countmeout what dress did you buy from ebay?

@saurus72 I have also definitely seen that batik dress before, think it went into the sale as I remember being sad as I missed out on it

NoCureForLove · 23/03/2022 20:31

I too bought that Batik dress in the sale a while ago - and returned it. Thought the fabric was disappointing and it lacked structure. Did me no favours...

Saurus72 · 23/03/2022 20:32

Yes I think the batik dress did go into the sale - I love it except for the fact it’s sleeveless and I hate my arms. Otherwise really lovely. I wonder if they’re planing to bring back more older styles? I still pine after a khaki coat dress that was OOS in my size, so 🤞.

TempleofZoom · 23/03/2022 22:11

Ive got the Batik dress.
Its my favourite of all my many toast dresses.Blush
It fits perfectly and its a beautiful hand print fabric.
I wish they would repeat this cut in other fabrics as its so nice.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/03/2022 06:47

I have it too. I haven't worn it yet. Forgot about it!

neveradullmoment99 · 24/03/2022 06:47

I think it was in the sale last year. I'm sure I bought it at the end of the sale
Its lovely.

Gonegrey31 · 24/03/2022 10:09

There is a tank top for sale now in the same lovely batik fabric. Perhaps they have a lot of the material left over?
I bought the dress in the sale, can't remember exactly when, and foolishly returned it (thinking I had far too many summer dresses). I've always thought of it as "the dress that got away", it had a wonderful flowing back skirt as I recall. But I'm not paying the new price for it!

TunaPlastic · 24/03/2022 10:22

I like the look of the Batik dress. Toast really have found their niche with the frocks.

So my sale box was like all Toast sale boxes, optimistic when ordered, disappointed in reality.

I'm back to Toast after a long gap, my shape has changed, which might explain some disappointment. obviously we all miss the 70 % sales of old, where you could try something a bit more unexpected, be more forgiving on the cut or colour.

I was disappointed by the trousers - no linings? is that standard now, even on the wool, winter fabrics?

i was always a bit more on the neat fitting, brogues and wool styles, could have bought everything some years. The boxy cuts don't suit me and sometimes feel that saving on tailoring is being done in the name of fashion.

The sizing is really, really annoying - ok that is why some stuff ends up in the sale but to get it so wrong, time and time again is arrogant. I'm thinking here of the very repeated tencel tee, an xl was a painful skinny fit compared with a Cos L, relaxed fit.

It does put me off having to order say three dress sizes and forensically read the descriptions.

was very excited about the Needlecord raglan Shirt, that's a repeat from years ago, but now without the centre folded placket it was very shapeless, not quirky shapeless. liked the sleeves but no button for rolling up, just fixed now.

The shetland & Donegal knits were lovely, but too much over my large frame, I've gone back to Cos for something cheaper but still in wool with a sharper cut. Worth a try though.

I've kept a lovely dressing gown which made me really nostalgic for my first purchases and the indigo stripe cotton trousers which are amazing, so, so pleased with them.

sending the no's back today, for another churn through the system.
Any update on the JL Pink Dress? I feel invested.

Countmeout · 24/03/2022 10:33

@TheChattyRat I had bought the Iria on eBay a couple of weeks ago. Not liking any of this years offerings so far. And more recently have bought the fan print (I fear winter will bring nothing better and the prices will be ££££) it’s a style I think I have the measure of and it won’t go to loss.
The batik dress is on ebay in a 14 if anyone was sure it would fit them, I noticed it while trawling through. Seems reasonable compared to the Toast price.

FiddleFigs · 24/03/2022 10:35

I think Toast are missing a fairly obvious trick in not listing the garment measurements on the product pages. It would make it so much easier for ordering. In some of their comments on customer reviews they mention that if you contact customer services, you can get garment measurements - so if they already have the information, why not make it accessible? I'm sure it would cut down on returns.

I'd also love a "model is 5'9" and wearing a 10" type caption to get a sense of fit and length.

Countmeout · 24/03/2022 10:36

Oh and did anyone notice there’s a live video today at 1?

ScottishMouse · 24/03/2022 10:43

CS is so rubbish these days. Have been chasing a refund for something I sent back 10 days ago. Sent on the same day as another return which came through 2 days later. A few days ago I was told to wait 10 days from sending until they look into it. So I emailed today, day 10, and just got a reply to say there is one more day left of the 10 days so please contact them again tomorrow. Seriously? The return is clearly lost, as the Royal Mail tracking hasn’t been updated since dropping it at the post office. They can see that too, so why would they just not “investigate” now? Infuriating.

Countmeout · 24/03/2022 10:50

Oh @ScottishMouse me too! I haven’t received a refund for one of the shirts that was in the same parcel as the one they refunded . I got that 10 day thing too. I thought it was ridiculous.

Bimblesalong · 24/03/2022 10:54

Good morning lovely toastistas. I’m enjoying the discussion of the new collection.
I’ve steamed my lively toast tala and blue linen dresses, packed some long sleeved tees and a jumper and am off to the Cornish Coast.
They really are feel-good clothes, each garment with lovely memories of breaks.

ScottishMouse · 24/03/2022 11:01

What @Countmeout? They refunded part of the return but you need to wait 10 days for them to investigate the missing one, even though it was in the same parcel??! That is ridiculous!
I had real problems last year with a return where they refunded only one item when I had sent back two. I had to provide proof of postage and they tried to argue that the weight marked on it meant I had only sent one item! Which was ridiculous as when I checked the weight on another proof of postage for a bigger and heavier parcel, the weight was lower. I got really mad about how much time I had to spend arguing that one before they eventually gave me my refund as “a goodwill gesture”!
They could avoid getting so many returns by sizing things consistently, as has been said her about twenty squillion times.

ToastCosILoveIt · 24/03/2022 11:32

Welcome to the chat @TunaPlastic and @Bimblesalong. Your posts are so eloquent and remind me why I both love and hate Toast! I have the Tala dress in the green and the blue and they were my go to dresses last summer when it was very hot.

There was talk of jumpsuits further up the thread. I have 7 Toast jumpsuits albeit over a few years. The cotton linen v neck jumpsuit in grey/blue and in olive from last year, the green linen one from last year and the micro check one from last year (my favourite). The linen ones were both in the sale (the olive one BNWT via eBay).I also have black and pale brown brushed cotton jumpsuits from a couple of years ago, both bought at different sales. Finally, I have a linen dark blue shirt collar jumpsuit from at least five years ago which I wear again and again. It is baggier than the others but still flatters.

I dread to think how many dresses I have. I started buying Toast when my first child was a baby and he is 20 now!

On the matter of shows, my Fracap Ankle shoes in black had their first outing yesterday. I went for a longish walk and took my trusty (Toast) trainers in a bag in case the Fracaps were uncomfortable but they held up well. I bought them in the Cambridge Toast in October 2021 and I see them as a spring/summer shoe so they have ony just come out. I am eyeing up the brown ones now.

I see the new clothes are showing a yellow/mustard version of the Fracap Eve sandals. I bought the royal blue ones last year and they are very comfy if anyone is considering them. Their only drawback is that my little toe catches on the last footstrap.

I wonder if Toast ever do any focus groups: they need to come here if they do!

Bimblesalong · 24/03/2022 11:38

@ToastCosILoveIt - Thankyou. There’s something about clothes which last and age well (& mend well). I’m already planning my striped jumpsuit for our June trip to Cornwall - natural fibres wear so well with the mix of sea and sand.

I like the sound of the shoes. Hmmm off to look!

TosstTastic · 24/03/2022 13:26

I watched the live feed, lovely set of models, good to see the gingham trousers in action - it's a lot of fabric!
They ignored my ' is the erratic sizing a brand value?' comment, but the feed was all about what size is she, how tall.....

Countmeout · 24/03/2022 15:21

Yes ridiculous @ScottishMouse. I have provided the postage receipt, luckily had stowed it in the back of my phone and could put my hand on it for a change. I posted the same day I returned the pair of Alix I wasn’t keeping and had a whole conversation in the PO about which parcel was which for I had 2 QR codes. So I know the weight was as in the original parcel for we identified the trousers as having been originally in the heavier parcel. They haven’t queried the parcel weight so far. I am really annoyed by it and I don’t think I will order 2 things together or return them again. I’ll just order none thing at a time so there’s no muddle. I think someone else had a problem once too was it @ilovecherriesor @neveradullmoment99?

So my 10 days aren’t up until Friday week although in my case I can’t see what the 10:days are about. My only consolation is that I used PayPal in this instance .

On another note I missed the live video but now can’t seem to see it. Has anyone a link?

ScottishMouse · 24/03/2022 15:36

I can’t get into the video @Countmeout. Looks like the link isn’t working. It is under Events though, so hopefully they’ll fix it soon.
On another note, I really like the half sleeve cardigan that has popped up:
www.toa.st/products/half-sleeve-fine-alpaca-cardigan-dark-terracotta

ilovecherries · 24/03/2022 16:31

I finally got round to opening my sale parcel (got home from caravan last night, dd who still lives with us immediately tested positive. Argh)
Anyway:
most gorgeous nightie I put in on a whim, and I’m thinking it’s really more a sundress than a nightie. I just love it. It has to stay
Alpaca yoke jumper in green. I sent the ginger one back ages ago as it did nothing for me, but this one fits perfectly and is gorgeous. I may put it away so I have a lovely new jumper to wear in autumn.
Gingham shirt with massive sleeves. Jury out out tending towards keeping. The slightly muted checks suit me, I think. I need to try it on with other things to check it’s versatile enough to earn its keep
Alpaca cardigan: oddly is almost too small and I bought a large as I wanted a sloppy fit. It’s shorter than I expected as well. However it’s a beautiful wool. I think if I try it with dresses rather than trousers it may come into its own.
Curved yoke poplin shirt - creamier colour than I expected and may be tending towards a dick Whittington look. I love the poplin though and it’s loose and light enough to be tempting and could also be worn open as a jacket. I’ve had a few skin cancer scares this year and I am looking for things that provide cover while still being loose enough to be comfortable. Am going to try it with Alix trousers and decide.

Overall was really pleased. A couple of quick decisions and everything else I liked enough to put some effort into trying to style them up.

ToastCosILoveIt · 24/03/2022 16:44

@ilovecherries, your haul sounds lovely. I dithered and dithered over the gingham cotton wool top and instead sent the three I had ordered back. The hue woudl probably look better on someone with dark hair and darker colouring than me.

The alpaca cable knit is a thing of beauty but defo more of a bolero than a cardie. I wore it yesterday for the first time with a forner years summer Toast dress. I also wore it as a cover on my way to Pilates in the evening. It feels as soft as a cloud when you wear it and I agree, you can style it to suit you somehow. I think it will be great over summer dresses while the air is still cool.

The styling video was okay. The presenter made the 'sailor' dress (which I tried in khaki and hated) look great. I think I tried the 10 but it was tight around the bust and the colour was awful on me.

Loving that short sleeved cardie @ScottishMouse: I saw that in Toast Hampstead a couple of weeks ago but didn't try it. I sometimes think that if it is warm enough for half sleeves, it is too warm for wool...may be tempted to try it in store along with the wool mix lemon cardie.

Afternoon toasties! Public service announcement: apparently there’s a Sample Sale on 1-2 April at the Mayfair store, with proceeds to Ukraine Crisis

Does anyone know if the sample sales are worthwhile or a bit hit and miss?
