Well my cotton twill darted trousers in olive arrived today and are going back - I think if I sized down even further they might be ok, but no chance of trying that for the time being. Shame because the fabric is really nice.

I did receive my Kindred gift neckerchief/square, which is lovely. So not a complete disaster!

faustina · 22/03/2022 21:03

@ilovecherries - thank you so much! You've saved me another pointless order and return. If I can't roll them up, it's pointless for me. Oh well.

TheTeaFairy · 23/03/2022 07:08

Long-time lurker here; I haven't posted on this thread before but couldn't resist sharing this with you all: there's a Toast sample sale in aid of Ukraine. At the Mayfair shop, on 1st and 2nd April.

I don't live in London so can't go, but fill your boots! Smile

AuldFox · 23/03/2022 11:32

I might try going on the Saturday, but will there be anything left by then?

ToastCosILoveIt · 23/03/2022 12:37

Thanks @TheTeaFairy and welcome. I don't think I will go to the sample sale. I am assuming that much of it will be unsold sales stock which we have all seen. I am also trying to be more mindful and can see me making purchases that I ultimately don't want or need. Most importantly, the sale is to support the situation in the Ukraine and I have already made a commitment to a charity in this regard.

On the matter of mindfulness, i have decided to send all three gingham cotton wool tops back. I ordered the 10 and the 12 just before the sale and then the 10 in the sale. I sent one back intending to keep the other before it went in the sale. Since then I have retried them on and really thought about it and I don't want to keep even the sale one. It is a lovely top but not sure it really suits me, the colours are a little dull (it is black and cream/grey in real life, not black and white) and it doesn't seem to be a winter or a summer top. I am trying to really think through if I need things or not.

I am sitting here wearing the blue Anni print poplin dress in blue from a couple of years ago and the lovely lofty alpaca cable cardigan from the sale which is luxuriously soft. I am about to put a few Toast things on eBay, including the size 14 of the Anni dress which I bought before sizing down in the sale. It's an odd dress: I wouldn't have got away with a 10 because of the bust but it's roomy elsewhere. I hope they do this dress in another print this year (I bought the brown version last summer and I love the style: so easy.

I have still to take that dress to be altered. The boat neck just isn’t sitting right on me - it sort of gapes forward at the front. I have both that and a sort of madras check one in the same style, and I'm hoping they can be made into a wide shallow scoop at the front.
ToastCosILoveIt · 23/03/2022 13:14

Ah, interesting re the neckline and the gape. I have just looked at/felt mine and there is a small gape there but i have never noticed it/it has never bothered me. I know if something doesn't feel right though that you will want to get it sorted.

i have so many of Toast's poplin things now: dresses and tops. I know that poplin is rather marmite on here but I love it as I do the wool/cotton mix jumpers that divide us too!

ilovecherries · 23/03/2022 13:19

I love a bit of poplin and that Anni dress reminds me of a cut-out-ready-to-sew dress that my granny bought from Womens Realm c1965. I used to love the way it swished and the sound it made.

TheChattyRat · 23/03/2022 13:27

Another fan of the anni dress here Grin I see it as one of my best toast purchases.

I’ve had my first Blush sale order arrive. Slubby shirt dress and dark cords. Will post pics but the dress I find a bit meh shape wise (and I have a similar Laura Ashley dress) though I like the material. Will send back.
The cords - I like the shape, they are a bit tight on the waist though so not sure to keep or send back. I won’t wear them til autumn realistically and hoping to lose a bit of weight (have been wanting this for a while tho with no success!)
I’m another who won’t make the sale - just too far sadly and I did look into getting there but the train ticket would have negated any bargains.

TheChattyRat · 23/03/2022 13:28

This is the dress as well as my Laura Ashley one which I think is nicer.

And the cords

ToastCosILoveIt · 23/03/2022 13:42

@ilovecherries, yes, there is a bit of a vintage vibe to it isn't there.

@TheChattyRat, that slubby dress does look nice but, as you say, it is similar to one that you already have. I bought it in the winter sale and have yet to wear it but the weather is shaping up nicely to bring it out. I had the maroon and the yellow versions in the summer last year and wore them loads.

ToastCosILoveIt · 23/03/2022 13:43

@TheChattyRat, and the cords look good too.

ilovecherries · 23/03/2022 13:59

I’ve more or less given up on fixed waist trousers from Toast, they just don’t work by the time I’ve sized up for my waist. That dress is very nice, Chatty Rat, but your LA one does look quite similar. I bought it in the winter sale, but it’s packed away just now, and like toast, I also have it in yellow and maroon from last year. They were incredibly comfy in hot weather but I do need to find a way to bling them up a little.

ilovecherries · 23/03/2022 14:09

I’m sitting here trying to think about how many toast dresses I have and have decided the collective noun for them is An Embarrassment

Saurus72 · 23/03/2022 15:07

@TheChattyRat the Laura Ashley dress looks lovely on you!

Just spotted this - isn’t this from last summer? www.toa.st/products/batik-square-cotton-dress-deep-blue

Saurus72 · 23/03/2022 15:13

@ilovecherriesoh that’s a dangerous game! I’ve gone back to 2019 in my records (sounds more formal than it is - a list on my phone 😊) and I have 22 Toast dresses. Plus one on the way that I ordered yesterday.

Was it always that price @Saurus72? Did it never go into sale? I saw one on eBay bnwt so assumed it was a sale dress as they had lots of bnwt things for sale.

I feel so much better knowing you have 22 dresses.

Saurus72 · 23/03/2022 16:01

@Countmeout - glad to be of service 🤗. I would say about one third were bought in sales and about two thirds are in heavy rotation, so I don’t mind that number. Plus I wear dresses most of the time.

TheChattyRat · 23/03/2022 16:05

@Saurus72 you are the Toast dress Queen!

I was intrigued so counted mine (I have a pinterest board) and it is 9 - quite paltry amount!

Snowyowl78 · 23/03/2022 16:29

Got my sale stuff, the Natural Shetland Wool Lace in brown (it says black) which I like and will prob keep, the Fisherman Rib Sweater I bought in a L as I already have in a M but I thought was a bit small but really there isn’t much variation in size so will send that back. Also the workwear jacket which is really nice and I will probably keep but will try it on with a few proper outfits first.

AmethystMoonShine · 23/03/2022 17:00

Been catching up on the thread after a week away. I popped a sale order in whilst on my hols and it arrived today.

Green Fishermans jumper will probably go back - I already have the beige/brown one and its not special enough, although they are a very warm jumper.
Think I'll keep the hazel lofty wool cashmere sweater - it's a shape I don't have and so light and soft. Looks silver in the website but is really a warm colour, so hazel is apt I guess.
Then I also ordered the cotton wool gingham top...mmm not sure. I like it but the sleeves are quite Poofy. Not sure if I'd wear it enough to justify the cost, even in the sale.

It might even be two years ago. I bought it in the JL sale for £65.

TheTeaFairy · 23/03/2022 18:01

Thanks for the welcome.
I've just been away visiting family and friends and found a lovely Toast dress (knee length, heavy jersey with pockets and a button-up back) in a charity shop. Very happy! Smile

ilovecherries · 23/03/2022 19:32

. I do appear to have 27 including pinafore dresses. However, my collection dates back to 2016 and I do keep a note of where I bought them and what I paid and not a single one was bought full price and half came from eBay. An Embarrassment of Dresses though. But I do wear them all and I wear dresses a lot. And I will probably wear them all for another 10 years.
