Lip fillers

oneproudmumma · 12/02/2022 05:31

Sorry if this has been done to death before! I'm new to this section.

I'm 40 and considering getting lip fillers. I'm generally against any work to my face apart from eyebrow definition but would love my top lip to look a bit fuller. However I'm so wary of ending up with an irreversible trout pout!!

Also scared of what's in the stuff Confused and what I'd be injecting my body with (whether it's harmful long term).

Has anyone got any positive/negative experiences to help me make a decision?

Thanks x

I have no strong opinions on what other people choose to do to their faces but I think it is beyond rude to comment on a thread where other people have shared their actual faces and say comments like "as you can see it's never a good look"

mrsnacho · 13/02/2022 15:50

I don't think it is always obvious, you just don't notice when it's done well. There is a world of difference between obvious filler and natural filler.

I think having practically no top lip is never a good look so it's each to their own Grin

100 people could comment and say they don't like my lips and it would have zero impact on how I feel about them. I love them Smile

Absolute this- that is the kind of shape my aesthetician does.
soberfabulous · 13/02/2022 16:08

I'm mid 40's and have one ml once a year. It looks completely natural and is just me compensating for the natural deflation that comes with age.

I absolutely love the effect.

That one look very obvious to me.
Lanique · 13/02/2022 16:12

I think it's an example of obvious ones.

Lanique · 13/02/2022 16:13

At least I hope it is 😂

youvegottenminuteslynn · 13/02/2022 16:19

Not sure if my pics worked earlier but would people say these two look like they've had filler?

Which entirely proves my point that some women just some women just want to be bitches on the internet.

Those are my 14 year old daughters entirely untouched lips! So your "obvious filler" doesn't exist.

OP do whatever you like to your face but make your own decisions because there are so many women out there just looking for any opportunities to spare others. It has far more to do with their own insecurities than wanting to help you!

The same thing happens on a lot of these lip filler threads - somebody posts a picture of untouched lips and asks if they look natural... the answers are often amusingly wrong.

My own husband and mother haven't noticed mine as the difference is so subtle, and I use a good practitioner.

SummerBluez · 13/02/2022 17:08

@mrsnacho

Hope they feel very silly now Grin
I posted my lips and because I'm so secure in them any negative comments have no impact at all. But some people take things to heart and could have been very hurt by their comments.
Your daughter has beautiful lips! Smile

ultramarathoner · 13/02/2022 17:10

@SummerBluez

I love mine, no regrets at all. Gave me such a confidence boost.
Can I just ask though. Do you think they look natural and that nobody can tell? I would have them but my experience is that I can tell when people have had filler so interested as to whether you think people can tell.
MrsDThomas · 13/02/2022 17:10

Last place id post a picture of a body part belonging to my kid is here. Esp lips. They are so recognisable if someone knew her.

Hope she gave you permission

Tippexy · 13/02/2022 17:15

But isn't the whole thing about 'nobody noticing' simply proving that you never needed them in the first place?

Agreed. Admittedly I have poor self image and am always looking for the next thing that will make me look my best. But in a way that nobody notices. It's unhealthy and expensive.

What happens if that people notice you look well and they can’t put their finger on what it is. With my eyes and lips people have commented on my eye make up looking amazing ( I haven’t changed my eye make up just my tear troughs) and my lip stick and how fresh I look. I am not at all ashamed to point out what I have had done and it has been universally well received. Many of my friends have asked for my aesthetician’s details because her work is so good.
SummerBluez · 13/02/2022 17:34

@ultramarathoner
I had a super thin top lip which I hated and was so self conscious about, so I wanted it to be noticeable. I would have been disappointed if it wasn't. That picture is from two minutes after the procedure so they're sadly not as swollen as that now and people who I've seen for the first time in months haven't noticed anything.
I'm getting them done again next month, I'm so much happier with them than my original lips.

Classica · 13/02/2022 17:54

On these threads people will say that it's always obvious when someone has had lip fillers. I think it's often obvious, but I do know someone whose fillers just look like naturally plump lips. They don't have that tell-tale jutting out swollen lip effect. So no, it's not always obvious.

For me, I'm reluctant to have treatments done that need re-doing every few months. Just can't be bothered with being on that kind of hamster wheel.

KeepingAnOpenMind · 13/02/2022 17:58

Thin lips can actually be very attractive.
Meg Ryan had thin lips and she was a bombshell but look what happened... it’s so hard to get the balance right.

Of course she did, she hates bullying and mean nasty people as much as I do.

She's not concerned any of her teen friends will recognise her on a Mumsnet thread.

I'm no stranger to procedures OP, but having seen your lips, I'd say don't. You don't look to me like you have thin lips, or that you've experienced shrinkage that would benefit from corrective filler, so any filler you have will inflate beyond what is natural for your face, which is when it can look false imo. Of course some people like that look, which is fine. It's just a matter if what you're aiming for.

I get lip filler and would say exactly the same.

"I'm going to sound like a bitch saying this & I assume you're happy with them which is all that matters, but it's very obvious that you've had fillers."

I thought the same. I would know the minute I looked at you.

Hahah! I love this, thank you!! There's such a weird bitchiness about lip fillers and I don't know why! The pearl clutching about how very obvious lip fillers are got me chuckling 🤭
MintyGreenDream · 13/02/2022 20:17

@Theblacksheepandme I'm fine with that I just wanted then to look better
