Lip fillers

Sorry if this has been done to death before! I'm new to this section.

I'm 40 and considering getting lip fillers. I'm generally against any work to my face apart from eyebrow definition but would love my top lip to look a bit fuller. However I'm so wary of ending up with an irreversible trout pout!!

Also scared of what's in the stuff Confused and what I'd be injecting my body with (whether it's harmful long term).

Has anyone got any positive/negative experiences to help me make a decision?

Thanks x

Which entirely proves my point that some women just some women just want to be bitches on the internet.

Those are my 14 year old daughters entirely untouched lips! So your "obvious filler" doesn't exist.

OP do whatever you like to your face but make your own decisions because there are so many women out there just looking for any opportunities to spare others. It has far more to do with their own insecurities than wanting to help you!

I definitely wouldn't have fallen for that. The minute I saw them, I thought how they look similar to my 14yr old daughters lips. I was actually going to comment on how good the filler looked. I am not trying to be a bitch. I get 0.5ml of filler myself. I am 46 and when I look at photos of myself in my 20's, that is how my lips look like now. The other photos look obvious and OP's post wants them to look natural. OP's lips are already full. If she gets even 0.5ml of filler they would still look unnatural. Some people want that look and that is fine but they shouldn't be under the illusion that they look natural. If people want large unnatural looking lips that's their perogative and their body.

But the point is that they would look entirely unnatural on a 40 year old woman due to natural ageing surely?

IMO it’s very hard to create the natural youthful fullness in lips in older women. The very fact it’s not natural makes it obvious.

I think this is a good point

I think if you are somebody who wears a lot of make up anyway it’s less obvious ..

Oh please don't do it! You can always, always tell when someone has had fillers, there's no such thing as a natural effect. Your lips are absolutely fine as they are! I'd really recommend Lansinoh to get them super moisturised and soft, and a nude pinky lip gloss.

Do these look 'done'?

You can’t judge a picture of solely the lips. It also helps to see them in real life.
The younger the woman is, the more natural filler will look anyway as they are more likely to be naturally fuller.
I’m not sure what all this ‘gotcha!’ is about Confused

Wigglegiggle0520 · 13/02/2022 22:18

Hmm even

De88 · 13/02/2022 22:30

*in real life. The way they move and look and seeing different angles, it is obvious. Not sure what the photos "testing" is for!

erhellerr · 13/02/2022 22:35

The 14yo lips are so obviously not filled. Some women are born with a full lip. The swollen lip line, however slight, is the giveaway. Not the size of the lip cushion itself.

Yes totally , it’s the swollen lip line

When I had mine done my mum immediately noticed , and I thought it was really subtle

Sorry, missed all these replies yesterday as we had friends round and didn't check MN. Having read the replies I've kind of come to the conclusion that fillers would probably look unnatural on me given my lips aren't too thin... it could look amazing but it seems so dependent on the aesthetician. I don't know anyone who has had fillers to ask for a recommendation locally, so it seems too risky for me right now.

I'm also concerned about this swollen lip line thing!

@oneproudmumma fillers can look very natural and just add a plumpness back to lips Smile I'd start with 0.5ml and add to it if you feel you need more.

The reason people get 'duck lips' is when too much filler is injected too quickly and the skin stretches beyond its means (leaving the lip line undefined).

Do research on the clinic and book a consultation to make sure you're both on the same page.

Fillers are very safe and can do wonders Smile just important you choose the right place and feel comfortable.

I don't wear much make up at all. The only time I wore lipstick recently was to hide needle marks from my last 0.5 ml of lip filler.

My own husband, mother, sister, and close friends (people who would certainly not be too polite to say they'd noticed anything different about me) haven't noticed mine, and nor would people here. I don't have a tell tale line or shelf, as I used a good practitioner.

BigButtons · 14/02/2022 09:03

@bergamotmint agreed. I don’t either. The skull of the practitioner makes all the difference. Mine gets a lot of women who go to get previous badly done fillers dissolved and re done. She gives my lips height not a shelf.

RampantIvy · 14/02/2022 09:07

Brilliant auto correct there @BigButtons Grin

BigButtons · 14/02/2022 09:11

@bergamotmint god!!! The girl who does mine has a lovely face though- I’ll check out her skull when I go tomorrow for a top up😂😂

Pancakeorcrepe · 14/02/2022 13:43

Your natural lips are a gorgeous shape. I think being eight weeks post-partum perhaps you are generally feeling a bit deflated and like you need a pick-me-up. By all means treat yourself to something but I don’t think the filled look is for you - you say yourself you are not really into make-up. I think filled lips look more consistent with your overall look if you are into a more glamorous style. Why not get some lovely skin care bits and lip balms?

I disagree with all saying how un-natural it can look!! I think if you use a professional practitioner such as well known ones like Dr.Hennesy it can really help enhance your features and look extremely natural.

Lip filler is usually made from hyaluronic acid which is a normal structural component of our own skin and soft tissue.

Don't listen to those saying they are against fillers when they have unlikely done their research!
