Lip fillers

Sorry if this has been done to death before! I'm new to this section.

I'm 40 and considering getting lip fillers. I'm generally against any work to my face apart from eyebrow definition but would love my top lip to look a bit fuller. However I'm so wary of ending up with an irreversible trout pout!!

Also scared of what's in the stuff Confused and what I'd be injecting my body with (whether it's harmful long term).

Has anyone got any positive/negative experiences to help me make a decision?

Thanks x

When I had my first lip filler last summer it turned out I was one of those people who absorb it quickly. I had it done again in October and was really happy with the result. The woman who I go to doesn’t like the sticky out look- nor do I . She works on adding height to the lips and it looks really natural. As I said before I had non existent lips and now they look an average size. If I put lipstick on pre fillers I looked like I had drawn 2 coloured lines across my mouth. I thought it looked ridiculous .
I also had tear trough fillers and they difference that has made to my face is astounding. I have high cheek bones and consequentially very shadowed and hollow under eyes. No amount of concealer got rid of the shadow. Now I don’t look like I have a terminal illness.

I’ve had 0.5 filler last year and it was really subtle and I liked it except ...

It was fkn agony having it done , I should have got the block ! Was shocked how much it hurt

But op I think you have a lovely lips already so I wouldn’t bother tbh!! If you do, go low volume first time !

blurpinkyellow · 13/02/2022 12:55

I'm voicing a negative opinion to aid the OP in her decision. It's not a "show me your lip fillers" thread, it's a thread about whether to proceed or not. The women who posted rightly won't give a damn what I think but the pictures serve as a warning to an undecided person.

Millicent2022 · 13/02/2022 13:03

@stevalnamechanger

What about trying Botox for a lip flip treatment ?

Far more conservative

Don’t do this op!
5128gap · 13/02/2022 13:06

@RampantIvy

And might well put off other people from showing examples, which would be a shame.

Or put women off undergoing the procedure in the first place?

I think you will find that most of the criticism isn't saying how horrible it looks, but how unnatural it looks, which is true.

Using the terms 'balloon like' and like an 'allergic reaction' go beyond an opinion on whether it looks natural or not. As I said, the pictures are there for OP to judge for herself. She doesn't need them interpreting for her. Its completely unnecessary to insult other women on the thread to push your anti procedure agenda, which can be done in general, less personal terms if you find it necessary.
lopape · 13/02/2022 13:09

I'm sorry but I think the after pictures look better. And no, I don't have mine done (although I'm thinking about it).

Super big lips look bad but slightly bigger almost always look more youthful imo.

BigButtons · 13/02/2022 13:19

I disagree that all lip fillers look unatural. That’s just not true. Done well with the appropriate amount of filler they can really enhance thin lips.

GodspeedJune · 13/02/2022 13:27

Honestly OP your lips have a lovely shape and fullness. Please don’t. You can always tell when someone has had fillers, maybe not in photos but in person. I don’t think it ever looks good, just IMO.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/02/2022 13:32

Your top and bottom lip look pretty even in the pic you posted, OP.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/02/2022 13:45

@blurpinkyellow

Both the examples posted here are obvious. It's the balloon-like lip line that gives it away. They look like an allergic reaction - sorry!
Whilst I agree with posters who’ve said that this the language is a bit emotive, I do agree with the sentiment in this post. Lip filler is always obvious, even at lower volumes. Some people like that look and that’s fine but let’s not pretend it isn’t visible.

So true - just choose the right practitioner !

I don't have fillers or especially strong feelings about this so no skin in the game but this argument is a bit silly as you'll of course notice the ones that are obvious but you can't know if you've met people who have had fillers that aren't noticeable... because you won't have noticed them.

SummerBluez · 13/02/2022 14:07

Oh I love mine, I don't care what other people think Grin
And Im glad it's noticeable, didn't pay £££ for people to not notice Grin Booked in for more next month.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 13/02/2022 14:11

These for example - do these look like they've had filler?

I can’t see a picture attached to your post
RussianSpy101 · 13/02/2022 14:17

I agree with @lechatnoir about @MintyGreenDream they’re very obvious even without them being huge.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 13/02/2022 14:19

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

They're showing for me on my app, not sure what happened there!

Also I love your name - a classic!

bergamotmint · 13/02/2022 14:24

I started having mine done just over a year ago. I only have half a ml each time to maintain volume and definition.

My husband, family and friends haven't noticed! I hide any initial needle marks/bruises with lipstick.

It's not without risk (e.g. VO) and you need to research to find someone who is experienced and well qualified, but also good at the aesthetics. Also look at their previous work.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/02/2022 14:25

I’m using the mobile site, it seems to glitch a bit like that with pics. Weird.

These are my asymmetrical, natural, fairly full 40 something lips. They don’t have that pumped, dewy look and puffy edge that filled lips do.

Apologies for the atrocious photo editing Grin

That pic is a close up obviously but does it matter if you can tell as long as they're done well?
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/02/2022 14:27

@MintyGreenDream, to some people it will matter, to others it won’t.

RussianSpy101 · 13/02/2022 14:35

@MintyGreenDream of course not and I actually think they look gorgeous. I was just saying it because the OP said she doesn’t want people to tell.

Shiningpath · 13/02/2022 14:35

The way the average mind works, it’s best not to flag an issue even if it’s fixed, otherwise, psychologically speaking, the issue stays in mind.

Having fillers, obvious breast implants or obviously covered grey hair just telegraphs there’s an issue and that’s all people can see (though of course whether grey hair, small breasts or normal to thin sized lips are issues at all is another debate).

So you can have the best fillers in the world but what people perceive subconsciously is a problem ‘fixed’ not just the end result.
