Plus Size/Bigger Bodies Chat Thread?

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 08:23

Would anyone be interested in this?

I love the S&B page on here, but I find a lot of threads are about smaller sizes.

Dressing a size 10 is a million miles away from how I need to dress my tall size 18 frame!

I would love a thread to discuss dressing my enormous boobs and hips and disguising my mum tum etc. Also I'm tall / big all over and sometimes have to wear mens clothes as everything is too short! Also a size 8 in footwear and have giant hands Grin. Lucky me!

Also a bit more support and body positivity or body neutrality for bigger sizes, as the S&B page can be quite lacking in that regard ime.

I might post pics of any successful outfits as well, but I didn't want to make this a WAYWT thread, as there is already a lovely one and there is absolutely no reason why plus size can't post on there too. I think I have in the past and may do again.

Anyway, would love people to join me!

These are the kind of outfits I live in. I'm just about to order this skirt from shein.
But I'll dress down with trainers and t-shirt or dress up with blouse and heels.

Love that dress, gorgeous. But the line wouldn't sit under my boobs, sadly. Or I don't think so.

ruthypfdraper · 30/01/2022 19:51

Ah it's a skirt, lovely!

MidSizeMillie · 30/01/2022 19:53

Welcome everyone!

Love that Shein skirt.

Joining from the sidelines, 5’10’ and a 20 hourglass - due to huge boobslook matronly in everything

Need to kick myself out of sodding leggings and tops, working at home has made me a lazy dresser. Have purchased a simplybe wrap dress for an upcoming party in a larger size and will be taking in on the waist.

I try and nip most items in if I can as fits are usually terrible if I get the boob area right, and jersey is not my friend after 2 kids and this stomach.

YourTruthorMine · 30/01/2022 21:36

Can I join? size 18, 5' 3, former hourglass - oh how I miss that

I have, gigantic knockers, mum tum (last child now 15!) and flabby arms, quite triangular shaped nowadays. Due a love of cycling and menopause, my legs are thinner than they used to be, but still fat. Cannot find anything that suits me

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 30/01/2022 21:49

@gelert5619 Thanks for the recommendation for Brakeburn, I've not heard of them before and am currently having a look on the site and am tempted to order a few items they have in the sale!

Maverick66 · 31/01/2022 08:36

What do you wear when you haven't a clue??
I'm also restricted in colours and fabrics due to menopausal sweating which is embarrassing. I can only wear black trousers or white because sweating in my groin is horrendous :( TMI but it's really restricting me .

MidSizeMillie · 31/01/2022 08:44

Welcome yourtruth!

Maverick, oh no, that sounds so difficult! Are you better in skirts or dresses? Also, I use period pants for periods and they are really absorbent. Maybe they'd work for sweat? You can get cotton ones. The name of the brand escapes me, but they might be good, as the more polyester ones I find a bit sweaty

@MidSizeMillie funny enough I have just bought a pair in M&S to try .

Snailhaterz2 · 31/01/2022 09:11

Can I join? I am 5 ft 4, and currently size 18. I'm very apple-shaped, but also as I've got older & fatter, have put on a lot of weight on shoulders/arms etc. My weight/size has yo-yo-d a lot over the last years, which means I've got lots of clothes that currently don't fit, but don't want to discard, as I want another go at losing some of the weight. But while I'm going through that process I'd quite like some clothes to wear that don't make me feel bad every day! I spend a lot of time in jeans as I work from home, and have a selection of straight legged jeans from M&S in different sizes, but I'm struggling for nice tops to wear with them - getting very bored of oversized plaid shirts or baggy jumpers!

NinaProudman2022 · 31/01/2022 09:17

I am 5’11’ size 22 (with a large protruding tummy) in 50’s also in need of inspiration.
I have purchased a couple of really nice tops recently in the sale from Masai one was from TKMAX reduced from over £100 to less than £20 and another oversized top from the same brand from a local boutique.
I have stretchy trousers from M&S, the old Long Tall Sally, Saint & Sofia (but returns and customer services aren’t brilliant).
I get odd tops from Seasalt they do large sizes and are usually a decent length and also casual things from Fatface and Tog24.
I also made a skirt as I have recently taken up sewing and I am now working on making a pair of trousers.
Watching with interest I know what colours suit me but I feel I struggle with finishing off an outfit and footwear as I have PF.

mumonthehill · 31/01/2022 11:14

Today I am wearing next pull on straight jeans, like jeggings but wider through the leg and a scandi type jumper I got in Sainsbury. I am trying to buy less tent like tops as I think they make me look bigger but they are always my fall back!

ruthypfdraper · 31/01/2022 11:29

I'm wearing a denim pinafore dress with purple tights and lace up boots. I have a plain light orange long sleeve top underneath it which is possibly a clash but I liked the colour Grin

MidSizeMillie · 31/01/2022 11:48

Welcome all!

That outfit sounds fantastic ruthy

hill, I also get the tent effect. It's the boobs and shoulders in my case. It's a pain as I love a tunic and jeans or leggings, but I look like the side of a fridge in it 😂

Still in jeans and a jumper here. I will branch out at some point I swear!

Oh Maverick, that sounds tough. Wondering floaty harems like Forgotten tribes might be helpful. Also love a skirt. I just had a wrap skirt made for me by a woman on Etsy .I love it.
I thing I have absorbed is that , in general, women who are blessed with bountiful breasts do better with fine knits than thicker jumpers or sweatshirts. I tend towards merino wool or cashmere, either quite fitted or drapery rather than huge. I also like mens fine knit jumpers. They haven’t got into this boxy bollocks which is a disaster for the tall people like us, might work ok for the shorter people.TKmaxx s good for that. Otherwise everything kind of sticks out from the top and I look even bigger than I am.. It’s really difficult because like @Snailhaterz2, I have clothes from 12 to 22; and they don’t at all always correspond to the size they are supposed to be, so it’s a lot to remember. My bra drawer is the worst, so often I buy a bra, think itfits then find it doesn’t. I have loads and wear about 3, but whenever I cull I lose or gain weight and need the ones I chucked.
@ruthypfdraper. Love colour too

Maverick66 · 31/01/2022 14:51

@Zebracat agree with you about finer knits.

Chewbecca · 31/01/2022 14:52

I've bought lots of denim pinafore dresses - love them - but all looked wrong on me, especially from the side 😩

DinaDirvla · 31/01/2022 15:01

Oh bollocks. Sad My empire line dresses arrived from Simply Be - urgh, disaster!

The expensive looking lined one felt nice when I put it on, but was badly made and had odd bits of fabric poking out of the seams. The size 18 looked reasonable from the side but - my H cup bosoms made it tent-like from the front. I'm not clever enough to know how to put a stitch in each side at the "waist" to make it better.

The other one was cheap horrible fabric and felt too tight, although shape-wise it was better - but I'll never feel comfortable with anything clinging to the top of my B-roll, and it's too tight over the breasts to be decent/professional, so back it goes.

Dammit. I look far better in a loose fit shift dress, but I only have 2 plain black ones which are 3/4 length bell sleeves, one is rather low cut and they're both knee length and I really wanted to go midi.

Where can I find a midi-length shift with long sleeves! Everything is knee length or sleeveless and I get overheated in cardigans...

DinaDirvla · 31/01/2022 15:14

Found some...on Bon Marche. How tragic.

Maverick66 · 31/01/2022 18:43

@DinaDirvla have a look at Wallis on line for shift dresses.

Zebracat · 31/01/2022 21:20

@DinaDirvla
I’ve found that shape in hm and also John Lewis, their sales are still on, might be worth a trawl.

ruthypfdraper · 01/02/2022 17:04

Another style lesson learned. Bought a wrap top from Vinted. It is lovely but has ruffles. I look awful in it. Sad. I should learn that ruffles and me do not mix!!

Zebracat · 01/02/2022 17:13

Ahh ruffles. Definitely not.

ruthypfdraper · 01/02/2022 17:13

I know what was I thinking!!!
