Plus Size/Bigger Bodies Chat Thread?

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 08:23

Would anyone be interested in this?

I love the S&B page on here, but I find a lot of threads are about smaller sizes.

Dressing a size 10 is a million miles away from how I need to dress my tall size 18 frame!

I would love a thread to discuss dressing my enormous boobs and hips and disguising my mum tum etc. Also I'm tall / big all over and sometimes have to wear mens clothes as everything is too short! Also a size 8 in footwear and have giant hands Grin. Lucky me!

Also a bit more support and body positivity or body neutrality for bigger sizes, as the S&B page can be quite lacking in that regard ime.

I might post pics of any successful outfits as well, but I didn't want to make this a WAYWT thread, as there is already a lovely one and there is absolutely no reason why plus size can't post on there too. I think I have in the past and may do again.

Anyway, would love people to join me!

Hi @MidSizeMillie 😊 great thread! I’m average height but a size 18/20 with G cup boobs and a mum Tum! I really struggle on the high street finding clothes that aren’t cropped or really frumpy looking 😓 would love some outfit inspiration if anyone wants to share!!

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 08:37

We sound similar sizes indecisive. I am also a G cup.

Hoping for some inspiration here too, but mainly I've been living in jeans recently. Even at work! I am starting a new job soon and I can't wear jeans, so I'm at a bit of a loss tbh.

I'll join, I lost 6 stone going from a size 26 to a 16/18 ( mostly 18 tbf as I think the 16's are just vanity sizing. )

I'm an extreme apple in that I've still got a large stomach, skinny legs, flat bum, back fat and 38 e/f boobs.

At 12.4 and 5.5 I'd hoped I'd be more a 14/16 but I lost weight in my 40's and the middle fat has sort of stuck really.

That said I have a better idea of how to dress myself now and the wide leg high waisted trend has been my saviour!

I'm going to post a few pics of outfits that I've liked over the last year, they range from m and s to jigsaw and all I believe are in an 18, I like trousers that are not only wide leg but pleated at the front to help disguise my tummy, I also have a long body and short legs which is weird on a 5.5 lady 🤣

That said I find that dresses ( such as the black one I've posted ) that are nipped in at the waist ( I don't have one! ) or have a drawstring waist are absolutely my friend.

I'd be interested to see other photos of people's outfits as am always looking for inspo! I'm a real clothes horse and even though I'm 50 on Monday I still like vaguely fashionable clothes although there are some things that I just feel too old to wear.

Oh forgot this one too - rover island sell these trousers and they are elasticated at the back so are a lovely shape on anyone that's an apple 🍏

Oh thanks for sharing those wags! You look so cute and feminine in them!

I think we may be a similar shape, but I'm just on a bigger scale.

I am size 22.
I have issues with clothes .....real issues.
I'm following this thread in the hope of being enlightened. ;)

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 13:15

Not going to lie Maverick; I think we're in the same boat! I am a bit lost really, when it comes to clothes, but maybe this thread will help me find my way

Thanks @Maverick66 - I was dreading it tbh but then again it's better than the alternative!

@Maverick66 I was a 22 a couple of years ago and was that size for a while, I just tried to buy clothes to suit my shape but I also find that Instagram is quite good as is full of plus size ladies who buy clothes that they not only look good in but are excellent value for money. It's great for plus size inspiration imho.

@MidSizeMillie it's a tough shape to be isn't it? I sometimes wish it was the other way around as if I'm not careful I can look like an upside down triangle 🤣

Wagsandclaws · 28/01/2022 13:21

Sorry that initial @ was meant to be for @MidSizeMillie - many thanks for the birthday wishes Smile

I was always a very defined pear shape.
Small waist large hips thighs.
However since turning 50 (now 55) my weight is all over .
I just find I never seem able to walk the line between comfort and scruffy.I look after my grandchild during week so I can't be too precious about clothes. My go to always seems to be Breton tops and track bottoms but it is not a flattering look and I be embarrassed to be seen at park etc by other childminders/grannies or worse still effortlessly trendy mums :(

Like you @MidSizeMillie I'm size 8 shoe... and add in arthritic feet it is so difficult finding attractive.

Also I lost 4stone for my 50th and regained every single ounce in last 2years :(

Maverick66 · 28/01/2022 14:03

@MaybeHeIsMyCat ...WOW

Wagsandclaws · 28/01/2022 16:06

@MaybeHeIsMyCat love those on you!

Strudelorcheesecake · 28/01/2022 17:05

Lovely idea for a thread - thanks.
5ft11 and size 20/22 here, pear shaped but increasingly plump around the middle too. I've had a couple of tall maxi dresses from Dorothy Perkins too which I really rate. And I was delighted to discover recently that Fat Face go up to size 24 online and their long length trousers are (just about) long enough (I have a 34inch inside leg, I think the Fat Face ones were 33)

My best find recently was Levi's straight leg jeans in my size and length and in the sale, unheard of!!!

I'd love some more ideas of places to shop - so many retailers only produce a tall range up size 18 or 20 (Next and M&S I'm looking at you!)

GettingStuffed · 28/01/2022 17:28

Great idea , I'm 5'7 and a size 16-18. I was an hourglass originally but 3 big babies in 4 years put paid to that. I'm an HH cup so find I can't wear blouses because they gape.
I actually have 3 dresses like the stripey on above, 2 are Primark specials and one is from Monsoon.

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 18:07

Blouses and shirts are usually a no for me too, unless they're really oversized and then I look like a walking marquee anyway!

I am going to try and get to the shops in person tomorrow and try things on. Very likely won't buy anything but worth a go...

I'll join! I'm 5ft8 size 16, size 8 feet. I don't have big boobs, but very wide hips and thighs and broad shoulders. I had a wardrobe revamp over the last 3 months and love my clothes now so will happily post pictures

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 19:39

Yes please bamboo Smile. Interested in other people's style on here. I need to find my own personal style. I don't think jeans and mens' jumpers counts!

Jeans wise I love
M&S magic skinny jeans
M&S Harper jeans
Did like next hypercurve and then they got rid of them Angry

Diditopknot · 28/01/2022 19:52

5ft 1 12.5 stone size 18.
I’m big all over.
I look bloody ridiculous in every single thing I put on.

I’ve stopped going out socially. I don’t have anything to wear.

But this week I’ve been forced to. I have never felt more self conscious and uncomfortable and like a sack of spuds in my life.

I’m perimeno and can’t shift an ounce of fat despite every diet known to man and sticking to under 800cals a day I’m still big.

I’ve been looking at plus size on various websites. I need new nice clothes for a new job.

Smart office wear for an all round round shape. That’s what I need if you can suggest anywhere.
Thanks

Babysharkdoodoodood · 28/01/2022 21:38

I've managed to get to 20, from 22 since Xmas by basically staving all day, apart from some boiled eggs at around 4 and then a normal sized dinner at 8. More or less fasting and it's been good for my blood sugar. Chemical menopause and type 2 diabetes is hell.

Got some nice trousers from Amazon of all places. They're gorgeously swishyGrin https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B093TQBN2W/ref=ppxyoodtbbasintitleeo01s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

Used to buy from Navabi but postage is now extortionate thanks to brexit. I tend to get a lot of Joe Browns tunics and dresses from Simplybe and wear with bright Snag tights and DM's.

Necklines are hard for me as I've had a full mastectomy on one side with bad scarring and I can't seem to get the right size foob. I have 2 from Boost, but one's too big and the other's too small. I
The nhs one feels like I have a sack of potatoes in my bra, so I'm after the Goldilocks oneConfused

I love monsoon dresses but a bit spendy, so I wait for the sales. Popped in to M&S today and it's all pretty much shit. ASOS occasionally has some gems once you scroll past the cropped tops, gaping cleavages or split to the thigh things.
