Plus Size/Bigger Bodies Chat Thread?

Would anyone be interested in this?

I love the S&B page on here, but I find a lot of threads are about smaller sizes.

Dressing a size 10 is a million miles away from how I need to dress my tall size 18 frame!

I would love a thread to discuss dressing my enormous boobs and hips and disguising my mum tum etc. Also I'm tall / big all over and sometimes have to wear mens clothes as everything is too short! Also a size 8 in footwear and have giant hands Grin. Lucky me!

Also a bit more support and body positivity or body neutrality for bigger sizes, as the S&B page can be quite lacking in that regard ime.

I might post pics of any successful outfits as well, but I didn't want to make this a WAYWT thread, as there is already a lovely one and there is absolutely no reason why plus size can't post on there too. I think I have in the past and may do again.

Anyway, would love people to join me!

I am a M&S leggings fan, with Seasalt tunic and long line cardigan with any type of boots person at the moment. Size 18, 52 years

mumonthehill · 29/01/2022 08:17

Can I join?! Size 18 and tall but with feet like plates, which I hate! I wear a lot of H and M. I bought a Uniglo jumper dress this winter which I love but not sure how flattering it really is.

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 08:21

Of course mumonthehill! Hop aboard Grin

Hello! Can I hop on too please? I'm 5ft5 and wearing a 20/22. Gave myself a kick up the bum and have been dieting since Jan 1st, only 7lbs so far but I want to lose 140 so slow and steady is fine! In the meantime I need help to get out of my clothes slump. Like PP I don't go out socially anymore as I just look dreadful in everything Sad Inspiration for clothes to hide mum tums most welcome as that's my worst area. Have to wear 22 on the bottom but then legs probably more like a 16/18 so jeans etc look awful.

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 10:22

Yes of course! Welcome!

Wagsandclaws… your outfit with the hat… where are your trousers from? Abs the wrap top? All looks fab!!
I’m a 16-18 pair…

Wagsandclaws · 29/01/2022 12:18

@Whattheladybirdsaidnext they are Chloe jeans from simply be, wide leg with a stretchy waist, the wrap top is just a cheapy one from tu ( Sainsbury's ) I believe - I double check later.

Being taken out by my lovely daughter for high tea in Bath this afternoon, bloody weather is awful so it's going to be hard to wear a dress.

I have a pretty top and cardigan that I might wear with jeans, would have actually have preferred to wear with cream trousers but they are in the wash as my rover island ones are one of my most worn.

I'll post a pic later, hello to all the lovely ladies joining this thread! 👋

Buyitinbamboo · 29/01/2022 12:31

Today outfit, dress from topshop (i haven't shopped there since I was a teenager, had to size up to 18 but I do like it). It feels a bit cutsie so have chucked doc martens and leather jacket on to go out. I wear bicycle shorts under all my dresses as I'm usually running around after 2 year old and don't like flashing

malbec I'm fully embraced not wearing jeans so much. I have the opposite problem where my legs are really big but I have a smaller waist and struggle to find a nice fit but have realised I like wearing skirts, dresses and proper trousers and they are usually more comfortable!

Could I join in please?

I'm trying to enjoy dressing again even though I'm big.

I will lose some but I'm focusing on fitness & health not size.

Today I'm in a pink patterned Mistral mini skirt, black Snag tights and a black polo neck.

I'm 5'9 & size 20

Eddmr · 29/01/2022 12:42

Size 16, 5ft 8in, size 8 feet, massive hands too. Summer hourglass. Live in jeans and jumpers. Looking for inspiration.

DinaDirvla · 29/01/2022 13:08

Oh, lemme join! I'm a bit hopeless at styling myself, and 2 years (lock down) of head and shoulders only behind a ring-light and a webcam have done me no favours. I can look great from the shoulders up - I was blessed in the face department - but below that it's chaos. Grin

I'm short at 5'3", size 18, and I have sloped shoulders and big wrestlers arms; 36H tits; a large spare tyre and tummy with a dent around the middle where my waist should be; narrow bottom and hips but heavy and short elephant legs (no mini dresses or tie-waist dresses for me ).

I'm less "apple" and more "rectangle", I have little shape at all really. I favour jeggings and trainers (or cropped tapered trousers and flats) with a blousy chiffony type thing over a vest, or maybe a loose fitting top. DH says I wear clothes far too big (I hate anything clinging to the rolls) and that I don't flatter myself. Sad He's right, in an unexpected photo taken of me recently I looked like a toddler wearing my Dad's jumper.

I will soon have to go and meet my new senior colleagues in my new senior management role in our new swanky offices, and I don't want to look like a fat square.

I don't mind looking fat - I am fat and short, it's OK - but I should at least look like I got dressed with the light on and I've tried to style my size. I ordered a lovely empire-line midi dress to wear with a short waisted jacket (all cheap from Shein, just to try) and courts - but the dress just bulges out over the spare tyre. Pity as it was better quality than I'd anticipated, and I love the shortie jacket. I'm menopausal and loathe big long coats.

I've got some Simply Be dresses coming to try, I'll see what they're like. I look better in shift dresses really, a bit shapeless perhaps but at least I'm not highlighting the tyre...

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 13:41

Welcome everyone Smile

Really lovely to have company and the pictures are amazing for inspiration! I love that Topshop dress on you bamboo

I've just been round the shops and tried loads on. A lot of 'maybes', and I bought one dress, which is a Jersey maxi dress.

I can absolutely relate to being more rectangle than apple! I seem to be blessed with giant hips and no waist, which just seems cruel. Oh well. My new dress gives me a bit of a waist I think

Oh sorry- here is pic. It's just from Joules, so not the height of fashion, but there you are. It's very comfy and I sized down to avoid tent scenario

I don't have the books to balance out my frame. So, I'm afraid I look a bit like Hagrid most of the time!

I've decided to wear what makes me happy and stop being self conscious. Like my Gran said, "who do you thinks looking at YOU?" Grin

Has anyone found any decent wide calf boots?? I don't have wide feet but my ankles are proper thick so I seem to be entirely the wrong shape for the lovely long tan boots I'd envisaged with my long swishy Wash denim skirts!

MeredithGreyishblue · 29/01/2022 16:29

@Buyitinbamboo that looks really nice.

Do you just buy normal cycling shorts? Probably a daft question!

olympicsrock · 29/01/2022 16:32

OP good decision with the dresses. The joules one is definitely more flattering. V neck a good look for you

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 16:36

Thanks olympic. I think you're right. I struggle to get the balance right though between not looking matronly in a higher neck and then also avoiding showing a lot of cleavage! The Joules dress actually manages this I think

OP posts:
Buyitinbamboo · 29/01/2022 19:22

@MeredithGreyishblue they aren't proper cycling shorts. I have ones from primark. They are essentially leggings but short and about £2 a pair

I like both dresses @midSizeMillie but the neckline on the Joules is good on you

ChubbyBroccoli · 29/01/2022 19:40

I am waiting for midi length dresses to go out of fashion. Absolutely frump-tastic on me (5'6, size 20).
Any recommendations for knee-length dresses with 3/4 or long sleeves, which flare out from the waist and flatter a pear shape?

bippityboppity87 · 29/01/2022 20:48

Size 16/18 here 5ft3 and found the most amazing winter coat!

It's from a Dorothy Perkins. I bought the size 16, but it's so roomy I could easily put a jumper underneath and button up no bother. You don't really need a jumper thoughI found in my experience, as it's pretty warm in itself with a regular top underneath. This is it here:

Teddy Coat

bippityboppity87 · 29/01/2022 20:50

Just realised it's sold out apart from small. But if you can find it anywhere else, it's pretty flattering and well fitted for plus sizes

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 21:05

That's lovely bippity. They have the camel colour in an XL, which they said is around a 20

I'd like to join. I'm about an 18, 5ft6 and an apple with a v rounded tummy with a B effect.
I'm so fed up with buying clothes thatll "do". I'm trying to build a minimalist wardrobe. I'd happily wear the same thing every day for years if I loved it. But I think 4-5 outfits would be sensible. I'm a sahm and unpaid carer and not looking high fashion, just comfort without frump!
I'm literally starting from scratch. I need new knickers, PJ's and all. I get overwhelmed and just stop looking and other things get priority! Looking forward to see what everyone recommends

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 22:45

Welcome ed!

I'm also trying to be more minimalist and I have not got a large wardrobe. Having said that, I've just bought two dresses! But they are for work and are pretty useful pieces. They're also the only things I've bought in months.
