Plus Size/Bigger Bodies Chat Thread?

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 08:23

Would anyone be interested in this?

I love the S&B page on here, but I find a lot of threads are about smaller sizes.

Dressing a size 10 is a million miles away from how I need to dress my tall size 18 frame!

I would love a thread to discuss dressing my enormous boobs and hips and disguising my mum tum etc. Also I'm tall / big all over and sometimes have to wear mens clothes as everything is too short! Also a size 8 in footwear and have giant hands Grin. Lucky me!

Also a bit more support and body positivity or body neutrality for bigger sizes, as the S&B page can be quite lacking in that regard ime.

I might post pics of any successful outfits as well, but I didn't want to make this a WAYWT thread, as there is already a lovely one and there is absolutely no reason why plus size can't post on there too. I think I have in the past and may do again.

Anyway, would love people to join me!

May I join you?
5ft 7 and 18-20. Another extreme apple. Huge feet and hands. I’m trying to buy less but better this year. I have just bought some fabulous things in the Anthropologie sale. They are really good at plus sizes and affordable in the sale.. for basics, I also like H&M. ASOS sell loads of 8s and 9s in shoes, and also wide fits, so they are now my starting point for shoes and boots.. I really struggle with jeans, because my hips are size 14 and my waist is probably a 20. I buy loads, think they fit and then realise that they don’t…So I wear a lot of trackie bottoms. I got a great pair in the ASOS sale, they call them corset waisted, they don’t add any bulk to the belly area. I find a lot of plus sized clothes really depressing, horrible colours, horrible material, no shape. I’m finally starting to have the confidence to look for better.loving the pictures, they ar3 inspirational.

Zebracat · 29/01/2022 23:32

Corset joggers and fabulous sale dress from Anthropologie.

@Wagsandclaws love those river island trousers (the ones you're wearing with the pale blue v neck jumper) do you have a link for those?

FWIW I think everyone looks amazing in what they've posted so far. I'm a 5'4" size 16-18 former hourglass. Not entirely sure what you'd class my shape as now, from the front I look hourglassish but my waist isn't as defined as it used to be and from the side I look pregnant thanks to my belly, so struggle with a lot of hourglass advice to emphasise the waist as this also emphasises my belly! I find dresses work best on me and peplum style tops with jeans but I really struggle with knitwear.

Bibbitybobbityboo86 · 30/01/2022 06:38

I’m in!
I’m 5 ft 9, size 20 and size 8 feet
Worst areas are my arms and tummy
Have actual arm roll 😢

I really like SHEIN curve

Diditopknot · 30/01/2022 08:23

A huge issue I have is that all size 18 clothing is also long.
Long not just in length but arm length and I bloody HATE having sleeves longer than my hands.

I am 5 ft 1 so that narrows down even more my choice of larger clothing,

I just can’t find anything nice.

I’m starting a new job soon and desperately need new smart well fitting clothes but struggling to find anything.
I’m trawling the internet every day.
Sad

MidSizeMillie · 30/01/2022 08:28

Welcome all!

I'm starting a new job soon too @Diditopknot! Have you looked at the petite ranges? I have the opposite problem as everything is too short on me! Even some long length jeans look an absolute disgrace on me. Tried some on yesterday and they were ghastly. Think it's the shape as well. Anything which isn't skinny fit goes all over the place on my legs, and I keep hearing skinnies are 'over'. Beginning Beginning lean more towards dresses

Diditopknot · 30/01/2022 08:48

I always look at the petite sections yes, the choice and numbers drastically reduces as soon as you type in petite.
It’s like shorter but larger people are an afterthought with clothing companies.

ruthypfdraper · 30/01/2022 08:53

Watching with interest. Some lovely outfits posted. I'm a size 16 bottom half but can't get anything under an 18 over my size 38H boobs. Menopause seems to have given me a rubber ring middle. I have a kyphotic curved neck and am a bit weird about any fabrics that I don't deem comfy. My staples are jeans and plain tops and wrap dresses or wide leg trousers for work. Most tops are two short or have those seams that cut right across the bust! I like Dorothy Perkins for dresses. Couldn't live without vest tops to go under everything for decency!

Thunderface · 30/01/2022 08:53

Good morning all. I'd love to chat and get some inspiration. I'm 5'2 and 18-20 on top, wear a G cup, 16 on bottom. I'm like a little rolypoly these days.
I just don't know what to wear anymore.
I've been contemplating returning to the leggings/tunic combo of the toddler years with my dc because at least it was easy.
Trousers and jeans are a real problem area for me.
I love dresses but midis don't do much for me.
You all look great. I'm a bit Envy with envy at the taller women.

ruthypfdraper · 30/01/2022 08:55

I bought this from Hobbs recently

Hello again and happy Sunday! We are in our way to the Warner bros studios to meet up with the rest of my offspring and their partners at the Harry Potter studio tour then on for a meal with all ten of us afterwards.

Yesterday I went to the Pump rooms in bath for afternoon tea courtesy of my eldest, it was wonderful it really was. Attached photo of my outfit, asos satin cream cami, I swear by these, they do them in the regular and the plus range, this is from the regular range in an 18, I have to hem in black and ivory and I love that they are cut on the bias so fit really well if you are large of nork- they also have a nice shaped front so it covers my middle tyre.

@Zebracat those joggers are lovely, really flattering shape with the deep v on the waistband. Might have to look into a pair!

@MarmaladeTeepee they haven't got them in the cream anymore, I'm gutted tbh as I only bought one pair and they are my favourite trousers ever mostly due to the lovely shade of cream and the fact that they are fixed waist at the front but elastic on the back. Sadly I go up about two dress sizes as soon as I sit down because I have a huge tyre type tummy. They do have several pairs of exactly the same trousers in other colours, just type in wide leg trousers and make sure to look at the photos so they are the part elastic type and they fit really well.

@Bibbitybobbityboo86 I like Shein curve too! Some of their Stuff is a bit rubbish but when you find a nice item It's well worth having.

For anyone that likes Silkie dresses they are doing amazing dupes at the moment of them.

@Diditopknot I have really short arms and legs for someone who is 5.5 and have to buy most things in a short leg. I have a lady who takes up ALL my sleeves On everything and it gives me so many more options. I tend to put the cost of having Them altered into the top.

Outfit for yesterday attached will add today's outfit for HP studio tour later Smile

Oh enjoy @Wagsandclaws! I love that tour and also love Bath.

A less exciting weekend here, but the sun is shining at least. I'm in boring jeans and jumper today, but it's v comfy. May post pic in a min

@Wagsandclaws you look lovely! That cardigan is gorgeous

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 30/01/2022 14:20

Thank you for this post and the inspiration ladies Smile

tiredanddangerous · 30/01/2022 14:27

Great idea for a thread!

I'm a size 18-20 - more like a 20 at the moment if I'm honest due to the half stone I gained over Christmas and can't motivate myself to lose. 38G bra.

I find I'm ok in the autumn/winter in my dress, tights and boots but I really struggle with what to wear in the warmer weather, particularly to work. I'm hoping for some tips!

MidSizeMillie · 30/01/2022 15:18

Welcome rebecca and dangerous!

Funnily enough, I find winter dressing the hardest. I hate being cold and we are on the hoof a lot, as our town has awful traffic, so we walk everywhere. So I always seem to end up in boring jeans and jumper with long sleeve tee underneath. Usually with boots.

In Spring I usually wear dungarees or jumpsuits with trainers or sometimes dresses with boots or trainers. Summer I have a couple of very lightweight dresses and then linen trousers, denim shorts, tshirts, linen shirts and a linen jumpsuit.

I think my issue in winter is that I can't pair anything other than jeans and dresses with my boots and coats, so all my favourite outfits never really get worn in the winter, as I don't want to wear trainers or go without a coat in the cold.

Can I join too please ? You all look amazing and I’d love some inspiration. I’m 5 foot ten size 18/20 and broad shoulders big feet and Huge boobs. Have to go back to office shortly after wfh forever and I simply can’t remember how to dress I used to wear a lot of wrap dresses as they flatter/disguise both chest and tummy but I don’t know what to wear on My feet. I used to wear tights and heels but I threw all my heels away during lockdown and refuse to wear them ever again. But huge feet in ballerina flats does not look cute and chunky DMs is not my thing at all. I really wanted to love wide leg trousers and thought they would be the answer but I tried some in M and S and looked like I had elephant legs

MidSizeMillie · 30/01/2022 15:47

butterfly, welcome, and we sound like twins!! Very similar size and shape and I am also going back to a more formal work setting soon after living in jeans.

I've got a pair of boots which are akin to DMs but less chunky. I live in them in winter. I also like knee boots, but don't have any ATM.

I'm with you on heels. Not sure why I wore them at all. It isn't as if I need the extra height Grin

butterflyfox · 30/01/2022 16:00

Thankyou And yes we do! Knee boots is a good shout. I’m going upstairs now to see they still zip up

Cherrybomb197 · 30/01/2022 16:07

I’ve found my people ! (Waves)

I’m a 5ft 2 size 18: sometimes a 16 or 20.

I need this for inspiration

Chewbecca · 30/01/2022 16:08

diditopknot - you sound very like me. I’m 18, 5ft 0 and 49. I have no waist and dresses always look like sacks on me.

How smart is your new office? I’ve barely been to the office for 2 years but when I do go, I almost have a ‘uniform’ of navy jeggings (so I figure are almost invisible) with blouses. My favourite blouses have a vest top underneath with a chiffon v neck top on top. This week I wore a dress - a phase 8 Becca dress so knitted with a narrow skirt part and batwing top part so no clinging to the waist. I’ve found Fenn Wright Manson petite good for bigger yet still short clothes.

gelert5619 · 30/01/2022 17:21

Hello, as Cherrybomb says, I've found my people. Much inspiration here and shops I wouldn't have considered and lovely photos so thanks muchly everyone.
I'm 5ft 4", size 20 and waist 36'ish. I've recently found Brakeburn and their dresses are very flattering. I've been wearing leggings and pretty baggy tops for ages but they only make me look bigger. I've bought some the same but different patterns. The crossover ones need an invisible popper to stop my big boobs falling out and frightening the horses! The prices are very reasonable too, especially in the sale.

ruthypfdraper · 30/01/2022 17:54

I tend to look at tops from tall ranges as they are longer and if you have big boobs you need that. Often the sleeves are too long though!

I'm 5'8' and hourglass. Really struggle with tops. Hate the bravissimo blouses and anything that buttons is a no go.

Took DD to charity shops for a browse yesterday. She got so much lovely stuff. A size 8 and everything fits her!

Cherrybomb197 · 30/01/2022 18:27

I unfortunately have smallish boobs! 40DD. Before DS was born I was a 38F

Nomorecoco · 30/01/2022 19:00

I'm 4ft 11 and a 16, sometimes 18, hourglass figure but with a big csection overhang so very conscious of my lower stomach.

I've been wearing a lot of long midi skirts/dresses, and dressing up or down with heels for the office.

But struggle finding things for 'dress down and hate the way I look in jeans, a bit frumpy or scruffy. Wearing anything but jeans though I look over dressed. I'm only in my early 30s and consider myself quite on trend until I dress down.
