@plantastic I think @SmaugMum has that lilac jumpsuit iirc. I generally find Toast jumpsuits have a low crotch - I am short in the body (but average height) so that may be why.

@ilovecherries I really like that frilled collar shirt with the darker vest / tank top (not sure what to call sleeveless jumpers now) - I am looking to get a sleeveless jumper as I think it would be useful, where did you get yours? And at the risk of fangirling you I always love the outfits you post!

I like it on you too @neveradullmoment99

@Theteapotsbrokenspout you asked about the sizing of the seed dress, I did order my usually Toast size 12 but I do find the AW21 stuff I have ordered more oversized than previously. I sent the seed dress back in the end as I found it too 'widening' in its effect.

@faustina love those trousers - I would have never thought to look at Margaret Howell to actually buy stuff (rather than just drooling at it) but some of the MHL sale stuff is relatively affordable. I think I will save my pennies for the next one - would that be summer?

@AFingerofFudge enjoy! Cheltenham is also my closest Toast (though it is almost an hour away so not that close really).

@Saurus72 I like the Sadie on you, I think it will be a useful little shirt.

I am now waiting for hopefully my last Toast sale buys (my willpower is low) - pihu skirt and lys shirt.

Countmeout · 16/01/2022 17:45

I persisted with the Annie’s @ScottishMouse like @faustina I initially found them tight but they have given a bit and now I wear them a lot and they are comfortable.
Is there a skirt the same colour as the gathered pinafore, I though I caught a glimpse of something the same colour on Instagram stories. Maybe @AFingerofFudge you would be able to look please.I love the colour.

MmeD · 16/01/2022 18:03

That nasturtium colour is fantastic. And would look wonderful in high summer.

TempleofZoom · 16/01/2022 18:04

@ScottishMouse

Thanks *@Countmeout and @TempleofZoom*. I reckon they won’t work as my middle is where my weight is, and my hips and bum are small in comparison. I’ll whip them out of my basket so.
The Gabis have about a third more waist in comparison . Im wondering whether I should have gone for a 10 in the Gabis. They are huge round the waist in a size 12, I can fit a small child in as well . I got them larger for cycling but they just fall down . I got 4 pairs 🤦‍♀️
SmaugMum · 16/01/2022 18:41
Yep, this one: www.toa.st/collections/womens-jumpsuits/products/garment-dyed-linen-sleeveless-jumpsuit-lilac-blue
@plantastic, yes, I have that jumpsuit! It was a JL 70 per cent off bargain and I wear it in the summer as loungewear (mainly when we’re glancing/camping, so I can sashay across fields from communal shower blocks to our shepherd’s hut or teepee and keep my dignity intact!) It’s a lovely colour and beautiful fabric and was very definitely a good buy in my book.

I’m just shy of 5’9” and, sadly, my length is in my back rather than my legs, but the rise is low enough to be very comfortable but not clown-ish or nappy-ish.

I would offer to measure the rise of the garment for you but I have vacuum-packed all of my summer clothes (I live in the frozen north).

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 16/01/2022 18:45

@TheChattyRat I do like the seed dress, it looks better on me than the Chambray dress - I bought a 10 in both . I was hoping someone had something in a similar material as I wanted to know if it softened over time as I know exactly what you mean about the 'widening' effect, which I think is partly caused by the newness of the fabric.

SmaugMum · 16/01/2022 18:48

Just to remind everyone that there is a Margaret Howell outlet shop at the McArthur Glen centre on the outskirts of York. The stock is generally a year behind but in season, if that makes sense? The staff are very helpful and you can order things over the phone for postal delivery.

plantastic · 16/01/2022 18:50

Ah thanks @SmaugMum! That sounds like it will do then. I live somewhere super hot in the summer and a shapeless linen purple sack that covers my legs is just what I am after. Anything with structure is impossible for 3 months of the year here.

ilovecherries · 16/01/2022 19:16

chattyrat, that made my evening 😀, as I’ve been feeling shit about myself for months. That tank came from CoS, I’ve also got one from Zara which I adore and is the length of a midi dress but split to thigh. It actually looks very similar to theCoS one in style, just longer. That one is charcoal grey and I wear it with a close fitting top and wide leg trousers. Also have a chunky knit cream one from Hush. I really love vest tops for pulling outfits together.

ilovecherries · 16/01/2022 19:21

I have the seed shirt (not the dress), and it has softened and ‘collapsed’ over time (in a nice way). Took a few washes though.

faustina · 16/01/2022 19:25

@TheChattyRat - They're from the 'cheaper' range MHL, I have wanted to try them for ages and I've been on a so far unsuccessful trouser hunt for quite some time now so thought I'd give them a go. I don't know when the summer sale is, but they have sample sales in London if you live anywhere near? If these turn out to be successful, fit-wise, that will be my next plan!

@ilovecherries You always look incredibly well put together and stylish.
Theteapotsbrokenspout · 16/01/2022 20:06

Thank you @ilovecherries that’s just how I hoped the seed dress material would behave, definitely keeping it now Smile .

dudsville · 16/01/2022 20:48

@Yorkshirelass04

I went into Toast York this morning and there are several things that are beyond gorgeous in person and to feel.

The checked wool trousers and the gingham dress included. The chambray shirt is also a winner up close.

Perfect for the 'dark academic' look I'm trying for!!

I did not know that "dark academic" was a look. I Skegby ages going down a rabbit hole with that. Thank you for a new term to describe my intentions!
ilovecherries · 16/01/2022 21:52

I follow the dark academia hashtag on insta. Very cool look.

SmaugMum · 16/01/2022 21:59

Dark academia = another internet rabbit hole for me to fall down; every day is a school day on MN.

I’m digging out my copy of The Secret History and dusting off my university Latin and Greek text books (Classics degree here).

Interestingly, when I Googled ‘dark academia’, the top adverts returned were for Toast. Who knew?!

Yorkshirelass04 · 16/01/2022 22:51

Pleased to meet you fellow dark academics! I am actually a student right now so it's fitting :)

I hate to do this to you, but see what comes up if you google 'frumpy clothes' 🙃

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2022 05:52

There’s some sale returns on JL just now if there are any early birds about.

Saurus72 · 17/01/2022 07:29

@Yorkshirelass04 hahaha, Toast, Cos et al have bid on that Google search term. I guess they know their audience 😊

Stoic123 · 17/01/2022 07:41

@Saurus72- I know!

I own/have strongly considered quite a few of the dresses returned by that search term......off to check out the rest Grin.

Snowyowl78 · 17/01/2022 07:53

Just wondering, has anybody washed a PJ Cotton/silk Shirt yet? I have the floral version in the 12 and it’s a good fit but I am worried it might shrink in the wash, so have ordered the 14 to compare. Have also ordered the Sprig one in both sizes.

Laska2Meryls · 17/01/2022 08:45

I returned from my campervan travels last night to a shed full of parcels ! Just had a try on ..
Bold striped linen dress is fantastic and definitely staying.. its an XL though bought on a bit of a prayer as saw that the reviews said that it was small in the bust, and it was the correct decision.. its large elsewhere but not overly... Nice kaftan style and I know that I will wear it lots.. I have the trousers bought in ladt summer sake in XS so it does seen bit odd that I had to get the XL in the top.. ( I am really not that out of proportion!)
Also keeping the blue slate boat necked top. Going back are:
Crinkle trousers ( huge and definitely clownish.. ) Red linen cropped trousers ( just not that special) Emma chalk tee ( from JL, just a bit ordinary) and the oil gathered skirt from JL as reordered cheaper from Toast .. Also going back is a Brora cardigan ( just not me)
I feel quite virtuous !

AFingerofFudge · 17/01/2022 12:48

I'm back!! I spent some money which was not the plan. I had actually gone in with the 2 dresses from the sale that I was returning so at least that's a bit of money back.
I bought the new Alix trousers in the toffee gingham. They are absolutely beautiful and the feel of them is lovely. Stiff, but not too stiff. I forgot to take a photo in them, will do that later.
I also bought the fine stripe cotton shirt which I think I'll get lots of use out of.

The new pinafore that comes in yellow and slate. In my opinion, you need to have an straight up and down figure for it to work. I nearly got stuck in it because of my boobs, it's not flattering is you have any sort of lumps and bumps really. @Saurus72 I tried to photo it but it doesn't come out well. I'd say it's more of a charcoal and not much blue ....

I didn't try on the new orange gathered dress but it looks beautiful.
@Countmeout yes there is a skirt in the same material and colour. I took a photo posted below.

I also tried on the green shirt dress. Lovely feel, not thin, hung beautifully but just not worth the £215 tag!

@AFingerofFudge - that shirt looks lovely on you! There were quite a few pics on instagram of people who'd bought it too. Very interested to see the Alix trousers on a real person - especially interested in the sizing (because it differs with each fabric they use seemingly)

my oil tiered skirt arrived and the whole thing was a bit of a waste of time really. it was folded nicely but the minute I put it on it was really crumpled - have never seen anything like it! also, the elastic in the waistband wasn't sewn in properly - like something really cheap. It was already all folded up inside the fabric. I can see why they've reduced it so much but I still don't think it's worth it for the money. It's a shame because it's a nice colour
