And for full disclosure, I also tried on the denim dungarees and almost laughed out loud at my reflection. They are not for someone with a menopausal belly. They looked like pregnancy dungarees on me. Which I would have loved when I was actually pregnant. But not these days.

Trying to decide about returning or keeping this. Am I channelling Andy Pandy’s mum (grandma???).

I have this shirt! It looks fab on you. Love the way you've styled it @Ilovecherries
neveradullmoment99 · 15/01/2022 12:08

I had no idea that the beautiful cupro/viscose pinafore was a wrap dress. Not sure I could be bothered of the insecurity of that. I mean just why? It would have been perfectly beautiful as a whole dress with back ties. Most unnecessary.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/01/2022 12:09

I tried that shirt in the darker colour @ilovecherries , I really like it but think it needs to be worn on its own which limits its use. I sent it back as I needed a smaller size (which never came back into stock) but otherwise I would have kept it.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/01/2022 12:13

Interesting difference of opinion on styling that shirt @neveradullmoment99 Smile . I think I buttoned it up to the neck as well.

I've tried it under things too but it doesn't work for me bit actually like it on cherries.

I’m sticking my fingers in my ears and not listening to all the clothing sale chat!

Apart from my apple green arran cardigan, I have only succumbed to homeware sale items, including the diamond ikat kantha quilt (glorious and would be worth every penny at its full price), an elina linen throw in celery and a job lot of washed linen napkins in chalk (£4 instead of £10!)

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/01/2022 12:50

After over a week of being undecided on the slate pintuck skirt, and it getting more and more crumpled in the bag, I have decided to keep it. I was worried about having another dark blue skirt as I already have the wrap denim, but it is very different.

The blue seed check dress arrived today, a much better fit for me than the chambray. It does hang a bit stiff over my hips, does this material soften nicely over time? I haven’t bought this type of dress from Toast before. It’s also been reduced again since I bought it, but none in my size.

faustina · 15/01/2022 13:22

@ilovecherries - that shirt does look very nice with the contrasting dark colour

@ScottishMouse - the shirt ! and it is striped! and yes, you're right, it does look much darker than in the photo - sort of French mustard colour. It's very nice though.

You were asking about the cotton wool herringbone trousers, which I would have bought if they'd reduced them some more - they haven't been great about reducing the price of their trousers at all this sale. I was also dubious about the dry clean only thing.

Anyway I didn't buy - my trousers plan is either one of the two pairs I've just ordered from the Margaret Howell sale, or those check Alix trousers later on - hopefully from John Lewis as I have vouchers for there. It's a bit worrying that there is nothing new season there yet. I hope they won't stop stocking them!

Saurus72 · 15/01/2022 13:30

The Sadie shirt arrived and I’m undecided on whether to keep it. Not overwhelmingly lively but may be useful as a wfh under pinafore option. Hmm not sure even at £45.

ilovecherries · 15/01/2022 13:55

I love that shirt saurus, have worn it loads with the same pinafore, under chunky cardigans with jeans or gabis and under denim jackets. I like he shape though and the colour suits me.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/01/2022 14:03

I think it’s a lovely shirt @Saurus72 and looks good under your pinafore, I would have thought it was quite versatile.

Saurus72 · 15/01/2022 14:43

Thanks I think I’ll keep it. I don’t have a neckline like it and I think it does help the pinafores (I have 3) feel a bit smarter for work calls. OH thinks it looks nice and I (mostly) trust his opinions! Weirdly @Theteapotsbrokenspout I think I will only wear it under the pinafores because I’m not convinced the smock shape is that flattering. I could wear it under jumpers tho. Apologies for all of the out loud rumblings - I just want to be sure I don’t have things hanging up not being worn.

ScottishMouse · 15/01/2022 14:49

Ooh Margaret Howell, what did you order @faustina?

faustina · 15/01/2022 14:56

@ScottishMouse

these

and

these

Hoping I chose the right size - no idea as I've only ever tried coats from MH. Do you know what the sizing is like Scottish? They do charge for returns but I figured it was worth it

ScottishMouse · 15/01/2022 15:05

They look fab @faustina. Would love to hear about them when they arrive. I’m afraid I have no idea about sizing, I have only ever bought a couple of tshirts from Margaret Howell.

AmethystMoonShine · 15/01/2022 15:14

They look promising @faustina, love the shapes of those trousers.

Sent back the blue/slate striped top today, too long although the neckline suits me but I’m trying to be more ruthless in what I keep. Also sent back the chalk Aran cardigan as the colour drained me terribly. Hoping they do that again in more colours this year.

faustina · 15/01/2022 15:36

They've already been despatched - very quick! I'll report back when they arrive

@AmethystMoonShine - I was just looking in my wardrobe and I have to do another cull. I'm also trying to be ruthless with new clothes!

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/01/2022 17:52

@ScottishMouse, is the chambray shirt true to size or does it come up big? I am very tempted albeit I am busty too.

The fern print dress arrived - not quite the colour I was expecting and v.creased but I love it - fits really nicely. I’m going to have to make sure I wear it lots rather than saving it for that mythical ‘special’ occasion that never happens though. I have irrational fear of appearing over-dressed if I wear anything other than jeans and I really need to grow out of it!

Marmite71 · 15/01/2022 18:48

I love those MH trousers, @faustina - await your report with interest!

ScottishMouse · 15/01/2022 18:50

Definitely big @ToastCosILoveIt. I tried a 10 and it was plenty big. I might have got into an 8 but it would probably have been a little tight across the bust. I only have two other Toast shirts and they are both 10, but I would definitely be a 12 in shirts elsewhere.
It is really lovely, definitely worth a try.

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/01/2022 18:55

Thanks @ScottishMouse.

I love those MH trousers, Faustia. I used to walk past the Wigmore Street store on my way to college and was frequently found with my nose pressed against the window while dribbling slightly. It was always my ambition to find something donated to a posh charity shop but alas - Boden was about as good as it got.
