What would you say the mum boot of trainers looks like?

I googled mum boots. Google suggests these....

Swirlywoo · 20/12/2021 19:15

Confused I don't notice what trainers anyone wears. Or boots, for that matter.

Swirlywoo · 20/12/2021 19:16

@pastypirate that's hilarious Smile

Grin
@HeronLanyon here is a classic mumboot. They aren't a bad thing, they are just very utility and a bit fug. They're for jobs such as waiting for school chucking out time, driving the people carrier and visiting Asda.
My mum lives in those sorts of boots. But she’s a a grandmum now. I’m the mum and I wear Vans

They look like action man boots Grin

Swirlywoo · 20/12/2021 19:46

Those Clarks boots are lovely.

woodlandarchitect · 20/12/2021 19:46

Skechers.

I remember when I first had Skechers. Aged 14 and they had glitter on the sides and zips instead of laces. This was 2003 Grin

My cousin puked on them by accident….

Coffeepot72 · 20/12/2021 19:56

I have to confess that the best pair of gym trainers I ever bought were Skechers. They were fab on the treadmill. But not to be worn in ‘fashion situations’!

Coffeepot72 · 20/12/2021 19:58

Oh dear @Mushrooms0up, I really like the second pair of boots in your post!

lostandfoundedges · 20/12/2021 20:18

New Balance. My DS says all his teachers wear them and therefore he won’t be seen dead in his.

TellMeItsPossible · 20/12/2021 20:24

My mum boots are DMs and my mum trainers are converse. I grew up wearing both and never really stopped. Now I'm a mum. So I guess they are mum boots and trainers. Oh well.

blueflowersinthesnow · 20/12/2021 20:28

They need to be unfashionable trainers if they're the equivalent of mum boots. I don't know what that means in practice though. Do fitflops make trainers?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 20/12/2021 20:31

I'm thankful that I have never worn mum boots. Or mom jeans. Or Veja's. They're far too common now. I'm quite happy with my Stan Smiths and my retro inspired New Balance trainers. As for boots, most are knee high and have a high heel. Hardly 'mum boots' Confused

I really want Stan smiths again - reminds me of amazing times in the 90's ❤️
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/12/2021 21:39

I've got Stans. Pretty sure they'd be decreed mum trainers...

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/12/2021 21:45

If Stan Smiths aren't Mum Trainers, there is no such thing as a Mum Trainer.

Aphrodite31 · 20/12/2021 21:47

@AndARiverBeneathYourFeet

"mum boot"??

Ah yes denigration of styles worn by mothers. Good stuff. Hmm

Its kind of mean, isn't it? I've resisted being at all mumsie for so long, but recently gave in ... this took the form of some soft touch supermarket pyjamas with festive squirrels and pine cones on them, for £12.50.

My partner said what the hell on earth are you wearing. I said I'm giving in and being a mum. (One kid is 13, the other 25 🙈).

xmasfairy21 · 20/12/2021 21:48

Converse & Veja .. for trumps and over 40s only

Aphrodite31 · 20/12/2021 21:49

Mum trainers are meek, slightly embarrassing, comfy and above all, cheap. And preferably come from Sainsbury's.

Or, better still ... Asda.

My pyjamas were totally mum.

woodlandarchitect · 20/12/2021 21:51

I love converse but they’re too narrow for me.

But I have reached that stage where I am embracing comfort over fashion!

However I won’t budge on wearing slip on Vans…. They’re so utterly comfortable and I’m lazy. So they’re perfect for me (and they were my bridal shoes too!!)

Margotshypotheticaldog · 20/12/2021 21:51

Any boot on a mother = mum boot, by definition. Same for trainers.
So if you want to avoid mum boots, trainers , jeans whatever, just don't be a mum. Job done.

OverByYer · 20/12/2021 21:55

Nothing like a bit of casual sexism and PA judging to pass the evening is there?

3WildOnes · 20/12/2021 21:59

The boots I wear are quite similar to the mum boots pictured here. Black leather ankle boots with a small heel. I don’t feel particularly mumsy, I’m youngish and think I look nice wearing my boots with black skinny jeans or black tights and dresses. Am I really terribly unfashionable?!
