What do you think of these dress options?

I have an evening event to attend where the dress code is 'smart'.

What do you think off these options?

Option 1 or 2 (2 I already own so is the easier option just worried it's about much skin)

Of* not off!

I prefer the black dress.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/11/2021 20:26

Neither of them look "evening"-y to me. More daytime.

I suppose some opaque tights and awesome jewellry would jazz up the black one - maybe a colourful wrap for the shoulders.

helpmum2003 · 01/11/2021 20:28

For smart I think number 1.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:30

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz definitely no wraps! I'm 30s, I think a wrap feels a bit old fashioned

I really dislike the black one I think it's cheap and dated, sorry.

Onthetrain75 · 01/11/2021 20:30

I don’t think either of them are smart. Sorry. They look like party dresses. They both show too much skin to be smart. But I am 46 and a lawyer so I may be coming at it from a very different angle!

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:30

@NigellaSeedofChucky thank you I appreciate the honesty. What about 1 or is it just the best of a bad bunch?!

OP posts:
stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:31

Oh dear. I'm really stuck now! I'm clearly way off the mark with these options 😬😂

ShirleyPhallus · 01/11/2021 20:36

Yeah I don’t think either one of them is quite right either OP, what’s the event?

And no one should ever “jazz up” anything with a colourful wrap! It’s not 2006 anymore!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/11/2021 20:36

They're both hideous even on the model. There must be better out there?!

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:37

Oh dear thanks all 😂 what a terrible fashion blunder I was about to make !!!!!

OP posts:
stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:40

What about this (with some higher heeled shoes)

It's another one I already own and I don't want to buy new if I can help it.

But also feel this is a bit work-y?!

‘Smart’ isn’t always a very helpful dress code - depends so much on event, time of day, demographic of attendees etc.
I don’t like the first, quite like the second, but impossible to speak with any authority without knowing more about the event!

I don’t think it’s a blunder, in reality if you turned up in either of them no one would really bat an eyelid!
Chewbecca · 01/11/2021 20:42

The Hobbs dress is the only one of the three I would call smart.
It does depend on the occasion though.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/11/2021 20:43

They are all more daytime dresses IMO

NigellaSeedofChucky · 01/11/2021 20:43

A white blouse, the kind that goes up to neck with a little broderie or lace, and three quarter length cigarette trousers, heals of loaders.

This* ^^

*I am not a lawyer. But the dresses are bad, sorry. Simultaneously too much flesh to be smart, and not interesting enough to work for evening. Boring colours, boring fabrics, boring shapes.

SirChenjins · 01/11/2021 20:44

Oh my…I must be getting very old.

What’s the event and maybe we can help?

Evening dinner at a restaurant in a major city. It's a networking event.

Or a dress with three quarter sleeves, knew length ish with tights and some smart earnings (diamond studs would be my choice).

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 20:46

😂😂😂😂 this thread is making me laugh how way off the mark I am with my choices. Thanks so much genuinely. I clearly don't know how to dress anymore 🤦‍♀️

The red one is smart but a bit boring maybe? Conservative?

OP posts:
Thatsplentyjack · 01/11/2021 20:46

The best one is the red. That's a nice dress. Depends what you plan to wear with the black. I think on the model it looks a bit like an apron, and she looks a bit bare. What we're you thinking of wearing with it? The first one is just odd.
