I have an evening event to attend where the dress code is 'smart'.

What do you think off these options?

Option 1 or 2 (2 I already own so is the easier option just worried it's about much skin)

Nothing wrong with the red one - option 3. More than acceptable.

I think the red Hobbs dress, hair blow dried with lots of volume and some nice heels, perfect for a networking evening meal.

Wear trousers nice blouse, you dont need to doll up for anyone.

Ddot · 02/11/2021 18:58

The red is nice but expensive you have the black so wear it, how long is it on you.

I think people are being quite harsh. Personally I find the beige one a little unusual and I wouldn’t have the confidence to wear the black, but if you do then what’s the problem? They’re just dresses and probably no-one will read ‘too daytime’ or whatever unless you’re meeting Anna Wintour! I would wear the Hobbs one as it would suit me better. Surely no need to go out and buy something new just because some people online don’t share the same taste

I love the red Hobbs one. Would wear it with statement earrings, bracelets and killer heels.

Worried the black is a little too much skin.

An update for anyone that's interested - the beige first one looked awful on! It arrived today and the size 10 swamped, the size 8 way too small on the shoulders it look horrid! So it'll be returned - I wouldn't recommend!

The SilkFred dress is lovely.

Ddot · 02/11/2021 22:22

I suggested a top underneath so look like pinafore

Ddot · 02/11/2021 22:24

Silkfred is gorgeous, even i like that and I'm fussy

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 03/11/2021 08:55

First one is lovely but to blend in-ish, red is great and perfect for networking as you'll stand out.

worst person to say anything, but both are meh.
than again, my outfit for smart evening event has always been: black jeans -same I wear every day to the office-, black shirt/blouse, but I would tuck it in. a special necklace (I have a few extravagant pieces, some art deco,...) and instead of the usual untied boots I went for plaid red high heels. And actually did my hair to some extent.
